Scene: Imperial City
Panting under the weight of his armor, Yi Ji Kwang ran to intercept his eldest brother as he descended the steps of the palace. "Hyung Nim! Hyung Nim! Something terrible has happened!" Stopping for a moment to catch his breath, he continued, "The Imperial Army has ransacked Father's estate!"
Ji Soon felt his stomach sink. "Father? What about Father?" he shouted.
"I don't think he was there, so he might be alright" he said, relief in his voice.
"Who ordered father's estate searched?"
"It was General Du Kyung Su."
Ji soon felt anger well up within him. "That bastard! He's plotting an overthrow. We must stop him and find father!"
Ji Kwang looked worried. "Do you think he'll be alright?"
"Don't worry," his brother answered confidently. "Du Kyung Su is no match for our father. As his sons, we must protect him as well as the honor our clan. Come!"

Scene: Buddhist temple in the countryside...
Duduel watched Bu Yong pray in front of the stone Buddha as she had every day since she had left the Archfiend. He sighed, thinking of how the current misfortunes of the archfiend could all have been avoided had she been at his side. As she was deep in prayer, Bu Young hardly noticed. She did not even look up when a group of men came up the temple steps. Duduel however did. When he confirmed that what he was seeing was not a dream all he could say was "merciful buddha". A bloody trio of Brue, Choi Bu and the Archfiend were painfully making their way towards him. Smiling at the fact that they were still alive, Duduel called out, "Sang Jang Goon!"
Upon hearing him speak, Bu young looked up and when she saw Ui Min in his bloodstained clothes with his hair undone, she gave a cry and ran to him. "Sang Jang Goon! You're alive!" She began to weep, all the while mumbling through her tears, "You're alive".
So happy was he to see her, Ui Min forgot how sad and hurt he had been when she had left him. He placed his chin on top of her head and simply said, "Wife." Crying in earnest, Bu Young helped Duduel carry the three injured men into the temple.

Scene: Imperial City, Choe Estate
Choe Choong Hon stared angrily at the silk scarf that lay on his table. It was the scarf that was to hold the head of Yi Ui Min. There was only one problem - it was empty.
He smacked a clenched fist onto the table top. How could it have come to this! Ten years - no, more than ten years, and it had culminated in failure. When he thought of all that he had subjected himself to, playing drunk, disgracing himself in public, now it was all for nothing...
No! He would find a way to succeed...
Seeing the tense, irate look on his brother's face, Choong Su tentatively ventured, "Brother what should we do now?" When Choong hon looked up, Choong Su felt a chill run down his spine. Livid with anger, his brother's gargoyle like face looked positively hideous.
"The Archfiend is wounded," Choong Hon replied, "so he will be unable to take any action right away. In the meantime, I will go see General Du. But i swear i will find a way out of this! It is far from over."
Grabbing the scarf, he stormed out of the room.
Scene: The Road from Bojae Temple
The king bounced around in his golden litter, feeling nauseated with every jolt, and the news of the Archfiend's escape had not done much to improve his already failing health. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of horses coming up the path. He poked his head out of his yellow palaquin to see the Archfiend's eldest son riding up to him. "Secure the king!" Ji Soon shouted. He rode up to the king and saluted, saying, "Your majesty, I have come to escort you to imperial city and to warn you of General Du Kyung Su's treacherous intent!"
Myong Jong found that all he could do was parrot, "Treacherous intent?"
"Yes, Hwang Sang Baeha" Ji soon answered. "But do not worry, the Youngho Guards will see you safely to the palace and my father and I will stop his rebellion!"
The emperor nodded dumbly.
Watching Yi Ji Soon ride off, he felt his stomach rise. Leaning over the side of his litter he vomitted heftily, much to the horror of his escorts.

Scene: the Buddhist temple
After Bu Young finished changing the dressings over Brue's wounds, she made her way over to general choi to do the same. Feeling eyes on her back she turned to see Ui Min watching her from his pallet, a small smile on his lips. As she removed choi's old bandages, she asked him, "why do you smile so?" to which ui min replied, "You are always helping people." As she placed fresh bandages around choi's wounds, she replied sadly, "But i have not helped you. I should never have left you". She was surprised to see a tear fall onto one of Choi's fresh bandages. She felt him fidget and saw the uncomfortable look on his face. Blushing, she walked over to ui min's mattress and made a show of checking the status of his injuries.
Ui Min studied her face. It was exactly as he remembered it. "You are here now" he countered. Bu Young tried her best to keep from crying again. As she turned, she felt Ui min's hand on her arm. Even though he was injured, his grip was firm, but warm and gentle. "Are you leaving me again?" he asked, looking into her face.
She tried to avoid his eyes, but when she met his gaze, she burst into tears. Clasping his hand in both of hers, she put his rough hand onto her cheek and as the tears spilled over his fingers, she cried, "Never. Never again. Forgive me, Sang Jang Goon! Forgive me!"
Ui min brushed her tears away with his other hand. "Please, wife, do not weep. I've finally found some sense of peace in seeing you again." Rubbing his hand on her face, Bu Young smiled through her tears.
Walking past the room housing the injured men, Duduel smiled to himself after hearing the exchange. With Bu Yong looking after him, the Imperial Dragon would soon rise again

Scene: Imperial City
Spurring his horse on, Choe Choong Hon raced to meet General Du. Spotting him, he halted his horse and dismounted. He barely had enough time to salute when General Du began to berate him.
"Choe Jang Goon! What were you thinking going after the archfiend?! You could have put everyone in danger and now he KNOWS we are seeking to kill him!"
Choe kept his eyes fixed on the ground. "My apolgies General. I will find a way to make up for this error, I assure you."
General Du was about to unleash another tirade on Choe Choong Hon, but was stopped by the thunder of hooves. as both men looked up, they saw yi ji soon and the youngho guards riding towards them.
Pointing his sword at the two generals, Ji soon shouted, "Kill General Du and the traitorous Choe Choong Hon!" Both men drew their swords, not knowing what else to do. Suddenly, Choe Choong Hon heard the familiar cries of his clan and their army from behind him. The two armies clashed and filled the air with the sound of spears, arrows and swords. General Du, though not as young as he used to be, was still every bit the skilled warrior of his youth.
Choe Choong hon also fought fiercely and he might have succeeded in fending off the youngho guards had Yi Ji Soon not had an arrow aimed at him. But before he fired a shot, one of the Choe soldiers threw a spear at his horse causing Ji Soon to release his arrow prematurely. Instead of spearing Choe's head, it hit his arm. Reeling from the shock, Choe stared at the arrow for a moment and then broke the shaft off, leaving in the arrowhead -he would deal with it later.
Unable to make his way to general Du, Ji soon took advantage of Choe's distraction, and rode up unnoticed behind him. He was about to strike when a loud voice shouted, "Halt!" Ji soon turned to see his father riding at the head of his army, with general choi and brue at his side. "Father!" Ji soon cried joyfully, "You're alive!"
Ui min looked at his son. "Yes I am, and if anyone is going to dispatch that weasle, it will be me."
(so LAF, does choe die here? and what about general du?)

The archfiend dismounted his horse, forcing himself to appear as if he was not injured in the slightest. In truth the wound in his thigh was still tender and he felt a jolt of pain travel up his leg as he hit the ground. He walked over to Choe Choong Hon's kneeling figure, still clutching the broken shaft of Ji Soon's arrow in his left hand. "So you aimed to kill me eh? A sniveling weakling like you."
Choe Choong Hon casually tossed the broken shaft aside. "I'm still alive, archfiend. I may yet achieve my goal."
The archfiend glared at him under lowered brows. "Nae Ee Nom!" he roared. "For a man about to die, you have a great deal of arrogance."
"So you mean to kill me?" choe countered innocently.
"Morra?! Your insolence knows no bounds!" Grabbing his axe from Brue, he brandished it at Choe who was now idly wiping the blood off his injured arm. "I was going to offer you the chance to take your own life, but you do not deserve such a concession." He grew even angrier when he saw that Choe barely looked up. "Onya" he muttered under his breath, "then die on your knees like the wretched animal that you are!" The Archfiend slowly raised his axe above his head.
(hey LAF, does he die here, or after a fight? what about his clan?)

Before ui min could strike a blow, choe grabbed a handful of dirt off the ground and hurled it at the archfiend's face. Dropping his axe, ui min covered his stinging eyes. When he finally uncovered them, Choe choong hon was standing with his sword in his left hand.
"i see that there are no depths to which you would not sink," ui min spat disgustedly. "i should have known as much."
choe pointed his sword at the red-eyed archfiend. "honorable measures are wasted on a villainous subject such as yourself. now in front of all here, i will take your head."
the archfiend picked his axe off the ground, the air whistled as he waved it above his head. with a loud cry he rushed at choe choong hon and swung. choe nimbly stepped aside.
"the old tiger has lost a few teeth i see", he chuckled.
trying to ignore the burning pain in his leg, ui min swung again. choe dodged the blow and then delivered a kick to the archfiend's injured leg, causing it to buckle underneath him. the onlookers were shocked to see a red stain spreading slowly on his white robes. choe laughed again.
"you are growing delicate in your old age" he said, a sardonic smile on his face. the smiled faded when the archfiend swung suddenly with a speed that belied his age. looking down, choe choong hon stared with disbelief at the wide gash in the chestpiece of his armor. "very well then", he said narrowing his eyes, "let us finish this." he ran towards ui min and his sword struck the handle of ui min's axe with a loud clang.
ui min was temporarily caught off guard by the unexpected strength in choe's left handed blow, but he recovered quickly enough to manage a wound to his enemy's leg. "not smiling anymore, choe choong hon?" he asked, smiling.
choe answered with a smirk that would have quieted chung kyun, were he still alive. "i suppose that puts us on even footing, no pun intended." he pointed his sword at the archfiend waiting for his attack. suddenly from behind he heard a woman's voice shouting, "Sang jang goon!" he turned to see lotus' running figure. taking advantage of his distraction ui min's axe cut a swath down choe's back. as he reeled from the blow, the archfiend rendered another blow to his side, bringing choe to his knees. as ui min prepared to deliver the final blow, choe turned his mournful eyes to lotus' torn face.

(to continue...)
Choe closed his eyes and waited for the archfiend to strike.
"HYUNG NIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The archfiend whirled around. "Mwooora!!" Choe choong su had jumped between his brother and UI min. With one hand on the hilt of his sword, he glared at the archfiend. "You again", muttered ui min. "You have no honor as well, pledging to serve me and then betraying me. Dishonor must be an enduring trait of your clan."
Choe Choong Su glared at the archfiend. "How dare you insult my clan? An oath to a criminal is no oath at all. And for what? To serve as babysitter to your drunkard sons?"
The archfiend now turned his full attention to Choong su, grasping his axe so tightly his knuckles turned white. "After today, you won't have to worry about anyone insulting your clan, because I'll kill each and every one of you!" With that, he charged at Choong Su
Choong Su barely had enough time to unsheath his sword when he felt the air whisk by his face as ui min narrowly missed splitting his head in half. Recovering his footing, he delivered a swift kick to the archfiend's lower back, causing him to fall. Lotus screamed and tried to run to her lover but was held back by Songha
While he was still on the ground, Choong su kicked his axe away. "You and that axe" he said scornfully. "I suppose you'd feel naked without it." He threw his sword aside. "If you truly are a warrior, kill me with your bare hands." He turned to Choong hon. "Brother, run and i will find you later!" Choong hon limped over to his brother's horse, straddled it and galloped off.
"Coward!" shouted the archfiend, "you leave others to finish your fights?" He gestured to general Choi and brue. "Take the men and bring me back CHoe Choong hon!" The two men saluted in response and took off after choe's retreating figure.
General Choi took out his bow and aimed an arrow for choe choong hon's back. When it struck its target, Choe gave a cry and slipped from his horse, rolling a few times after hitting ground. Choe Choong su, who had been watching his brother, was horrified to see his brother shot. In an anguished tone, he cried out, "Brother!" Behind him, the archfiend raised his axe and sliced into his back. Dropping to his knees, Choong Su could only murmur, "Forgive me brother" before he breathed his last.
The archfiend studied Choong su's limp body, blood draining from the large gaping wound in his back. General Choi approached him, dragging the near dead body of Choong hon. Covered in dirt and bleeding profusely, the archfiend could not help laughing. "Look at you now" he chuckled. "The great Choe-hehe Choo-hoo-hoo-ng Hon of Wooohooo hoo hooo bong! Haahaahahahahh" So hard was he laughing that he actually slapped his knee.
Choe choong hon spat a mouthful of blood out of the side of his mouth and looked into the archfiend's eyes. "Laugh, but you will never get your prize" and closing his eyes, he willed himself to die.
Dumbfounded, Ui Min stared at Choe choong hon's corpse that had only a few seconds before been breathing. "WHAT?! NO!!! NOooooo!!!" He grabbed his axe to chop off choong hon's head, but after a pause, he sighed and threw the axe aside. "What's the use?" he mused, "it is over now."
"SANG JANG GOON!"
Lotus ran to the archfiend and threw her arms around him. "Thank the heavens that you are still alive. I was so afraid for you!" Ui Min patted her back consolingly, but detachedly. Sensing the change in his demeanor, she looked into his face. "But...why?"
Ui min stepped away from her. "I'm sorry Lotus, but I have a wife that I love more than anything." He felt terrible for the pain he was causing her but he knew he couldn't go back to her anymore. The sound of horses inerrupted his thoughts and he saw general du and what was left of his soldiers riding hard to the imperial palace. Forgetting Lotus' pain, he shouted to Choi and Brue to follow them as he mounted his horse and rode in pursuit.

(to continue...)
General Du spurred his horse on relentlessly. Must get to the palace. Protect the emperor. The same thoughts raced through his mind as he neared the king's chambers. Upon reaching the courtyard, General Du hurriedly dismounted and ran up the steps to the emperor's audience hall. without bothering to ask permission for admittance, he barged past escort cho and park and burst through the doors. The king, slumped in his throne, started at sight of General Du. With his eyes widened and his nostrils flared, General Du had a passing thought that he looked rather like his horse, but this thought was quickly pushed aside as he heard his voice say, "Hwang sang baeha, forgive me for intruding like this, but i have urgent news!"
Myong jong's eyes and nostrils only got bigger. "What is it?" he asked, his voice shaking.
"General Choi Choong Hon has failed to kill the archfiend. Instead the archfiend has slain both him and his brother and is on his way to the palace as we speak!" Du replied. "We must get your majesty to safety!"
Had it not been supremely unkingly, Myong Jong probably would have lost all bowel function at that point. All he could manage was, "What will I do?"
General Du knelt before his shaking emperor and reaffirmed, "Hwang Sang Baeha, i pledged my life and my sword to the imperial family and so long as i am alive, I will not allow any harm to come to you. Now please we must-"
He ws cut off mid sentence by the sound of shredding wood and paper. Myong jong nearly fainted when he saw the archfiend's ax slice through the doors to his audience chambers. But before he could say anything, General Du drew his sword. "Yi Ui Min! How dare you enter the emperor's chambersin this disrespectful manner?" he thundered.
Yi Ui Min looked at his friend of more than twenty years. How gray they had both become, but general Du seemed to take no notice of his age - every bit the warrior. Ui min handed his axe to brue and slowly approached his old friend. "General Du, we have been friends for a long time, and i have not forgotten how you spared my life when i was fleeing from kyung dae seung and his dobang soldiers. In return, I do not ask that you join me, but i will not kill you. You are free to go and live as you will." A long silence hung in the air as he awaited Du kyung su's response.
