Well finally! I have to admit, HR made a beautiful bride, although I don't think I've ever seen a sadder one. I thought the whole set-up at Joyland was lovely too. Kind of a good thing MJ wasn't there. His wedding was so plain by comparison. But I think the real news in this episode was how Granny is finally softening towards MJ. I was wondering if she would realize the sacrifice he made when he decided to go on that business trip instead of his father. Although she couldn't bring herself to say those things to his face, at least now SY knows how Granny's feelings have changed. We still have RH to worry about, though. She sure isn't going to take this marriage thing sitting down.

I laughed out loud a couple of times, notably when Hyun-kyu and Hye-ran arrived at the wedding site via Joyland novelty train. A little goofy, but also pleasantly whimsical and appropriate.
I was annoyed with Hye-ran for crying so long. A few tears would have been understandable, but to act as if her father's absence was the most important thing to her was overly self-indulgent and inconsiderate of everyone else, especially her husband and his family, who went through extreme upheaval to put her in the "bride's seat." So your dad isn't there, big deal. I mean, OK, it is a big deal, but for god's sake, you're marrying the man you went through over a year of hell for--practically tearing the fabric of Korean Confucianist society, if all the histrionics were to be believed--and he went through the same thing for you. You could throw him a bone and at least pretend to be happy to make your wedding a JOYFUL event rather than yet another occasion for "Oh poor Hye-ran" tears. That girl is ridiculously negative and a big-time crybaby, just as Hye-sung said.

Yeah, I think the veil took away from the dress though, I could hardly see it. Both pieces were a little too overpowering. She should have either wowed us w/her dress or her veil, but because both pieces were attention grabbers I didn’t know what to pay attention to.
Ha! I “liked” Ji-hon’s Liberace-inspired mini-tux. He looked cute in it.
My favorite scene though was when Grandma smiled at Malbong and she in turn just gave her the meanest little evil eye ever. Bravo.
Why on earth did they make it so apparent that HR’s dad wasn’t there? Couldn’t they have left the empty chair out?
The train was a little cheesy but okay, but did you notice they got off on the opposite direction to where the altar was? Didn’t that mean that they had to go around the whole train? Bet they didn’t think I’d catch that.
What’s up w/YJ always messing up w/those crazy hairstyles? Her hanbok was beautiful, but her hair looked like a botched attempt at a French braid. My other complaint was Soon-ok’s little sweater thing she wore over her dress. She could have done w/out it.
Oh, oh--the waterworks. I guess understandable but come on, if he hadn't come back he wouldn't have been there anyway. And why couldn't her mother walk her down the aisle? God knows poor KJ worked hard to give her everything she possibly could.

I was just wondering, is there any special reason why people wear white gloves at a Korean wedding?

Well, it is Joyland, so maybe they were trying to look like Mickey Mouse, in honor of their resemblance to Disneyland!
Just kidding. I don't have an answer, but I just assumed it was in the interest of being formal.
Yes, galactic, I agree that Yu-jin's hanbok was especially beautiful. That peachy raspberry color was gorgeous.

LOL GC at a few of your observations. I had the same comments in my mind.
Did they have to hit us over the head with a sledgehammer that HR's father wasn't there w/ that empty seat next to Keum-Ja? Why couldn't they seat her with her other family -- BIL, son and DIL? That was just too much.
Also, I noted the same thing about HR and HK getting off the train opposite the side the wedding party was on, which made no sense to me. My husband suggests they probably waited for the train to pull away and then walked down the aisle. But why go to all that trouble? Wouldn't it make more sense to get off on the right side starting out?
And I don't know why HR couldn't be walked down the aisle by her uncle...or brother, if the uncle wouldn't do. Plenty of uncles stand in for dads who can't be there, due to absenteeism or death...or other reasons. It was all a little weird, IMO.
Otherwise, the wedding had its nice aspects. I was just very happy to see them finally get together after dragging out their estranged misery for so long. One thing I don't get is why they have to get their own place. If HS and his wife could break with tradition and move in with the bride's family, why can't HR and HK move in with her family now that they have a large enough place and she has her own room -- a plenty big one too?
And I still say it's hard for me to believe there wasn't one other executive at Joyland VIP enough to attend the conference in the US so that both relatives of the groom could attend his wedding. I think it's almost as important for a brother to attend his brother's wedding as it is both parents.

I also agree that Yujin's hanbok was beautiful. But I also loved her hair! I thought she looked absolutely gorgeous that day. I usually don't like her hair, but I thought it looked great at the wedding. Both the Suh sisters looked fabulous, in my opinion.

I forgot to add: Hyunkyu has been looking really good these days! I really never thought he was that cute, but wow, he looked good at his wedding ...

I'm not sure about the Joyland train, but zoo trains and like that usually have it set up so you can only get out on one side--probably to prevent little kiddies falling or jumping out on the wrong side. So one side of the car has a wall and the other side is open.

But if I remember correctly there weren't any doors, I think there were some small bars, but no doors. Who knows, if that was the case then yes it would make more sense. I feel we got cheated of the "wedding night" though. Those are usually pretty funny. The funniest one is from a drama called "Who's My Love" where the oldest brother looks like he's wincing while "disrobing" his bride, she in turn just looks like she's about to chew her fingers off. Hilarious.

Hilarious. Oh, gosh, wasn't that hilarious! They always looked like that, too, when being "with" each other. My favorite scene was when Jiyeun was trying to get pregnant, and she ordered him into the bedroom like a staff sargeant. How VERY romantic. Bo

LOL! Yeah I remember that part too. Talk about an over-achiever. The other funny honeymoon scene was between Hana & Sangmin. Hana was played by Lee Tae Ran (Ja-young from YH) and she was totally different in this drama. She was practically begging her husband to consumate the marriage w/her.
She kept telling him that he had shamed her ancestors. Her character is my favorite.

lee hana's husband was sangsik not sangmin GALACTIC CHICK. Oh, hah, gal-ck, he told you! (I know you're not trying to sound rude, toranaga, but you do, a little. I think it's the all-caps thing.) I just have so much difficulty remembering names from show to show. Especially when they are so similar. Young-this and That-young, etc. I usually only get a grip on the unusual or shorter ones, like Joon, or Hana, or Jiyeun. Bo
