Yes, I can see it now:an international convention of durama fans, held in Seoul. Celebs like Diane Sawyer, even some of the actors will show up. Everything starts with a tiny seed...

Forget meeting in Seoul (for now)...
Let's get something going in Chicago, and call in the local press...i think once word gets out (perhaps a feature on a local TV station) , it'll build...
But let's get together HERE!!!!

p.s. i like Star Trek as well, just so you know!

Truth be told, that's what I was getting at. The media idea is interesting, tho I mentioned Diane Sawyer because I hear she's a KBC subtitles junkie too. The turnout would have to be very high, as I don't think the enthusiasm of a small number would be enough to attract the (non- Korean) local media. I wonder how the idea has fared in other cities.

I'm all about that! ;D I'm sure we could get something started in Chicago... This stuff is all right up my alley, so if anyone's serious.......let me know.

I saw an item on the KBC news at 9:00 PM, where CLTV did a story on WOCH/KBC.
Probably more people watch KBC than CLTV, though ;D

I am shocked that there are so many other people hooked on Korean drama. (Diane Sawyer?) Why is this happening? It happened to me sort of by accident, and I don't know a single other person who's into this. So, how did I happen to catch this wave, I wonder?
P.S. I'm only watching "On the Green Prairie," but I'll certainly start watching new ones when they begin.

Hmm I think that's a great idea. I'd like to see something like that for all the KBC-TV viewers. Also I think it would be very possible to have some of our favorite actors from the dramas attend. Of course it would require a lot of work, time and effort from promoters and such but it's not something that's completely out of the question. Quite a few Korean celebrities come to the US (they mostly go to LA, NY or Washington) for vacation, to visit family or whatever, you just don't hear about it. Actually one of my favorite singers/actresses was visiting family in NY earlier this month. One of the things that I think Chicago has working for itself though is the young Korean who plays first base for the Cubs, Hee Seop Choi. He's gotten a lot of media coverage in Korea. I think KBS owns the rights and broadcasts the Cubs games over there. Well that's given Chicago and it's Korean community quite a bit of exposure. Does anyone see where I'm going with this? Basically the bigger he gets, in popularity I mean, the more Koreans are going to want to come here.
Haha .. I don't know if you can tell but I've given this quite some thought. But hey, I'm all for anything that'll encourage more Korean celebrities to come here.

I completely agree...even if we start something small, it quite possibly could grow big enough to have Drama stars starting to attend. I've heard of that happening before actually... It's just a matter of finding enough people to put in the time and energy...

Why don't we start something small? It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just some little get together to chat about these dramas and such. Have any of you checked out meetup.com? You can start a group there where people with similar interests can sign up and one day out of each month you vote on a place to meet, say a coffee shop or a restaurant, and everyone meets at that place on the the date that was picked for the meeting. If not enough people vote for a particular place then the meeting gets cancelled. This might be a good way to start something plus those who are interested in this and don't know of this site but know of meetup.com would see our listing and sign up (possibly). And who knows this could also help other start up ones in their cities.
So what do you all think?

Does age make a difference? I'm 41 and started watching Korean dramas since one called Ties that Bind was out. After that I was hooked! I also get a kick out out of the game shows that sometimes come on after Yellow Hankerchief, not to mention some of the musical shows.
I was also thinking a few weeks back that it would be nice if there was a group that gathered to discuss the dramas and to also make new acquaintences. I would love to participate!

Latina, if you're thinking you may be too old for it, don't worry, I have at least ten years on you! And wow, Ties That Bind really rings a bell but I'm not sure which one it was. The titles of the dramas are the first thing I forget. Discussions of past shows may be a main attraction at such a gathering. I was thinking we should meet near where we'd have access to a tv/vcr, so if anyone brings some old video recordings, we could check it out . Also we need to be sure all our Addicts and Guests are aware of what's happening from the first meet-up. Then we can alert the media, if the number is overwhelming!
