The latest news I saw online is that the series is being paused for two weeks and that KBS is preparing to release a second statement on the matter. Hopefully it's just a pause, assuming that KBS does the right thing and dismisses everyone involved with the stunt (and "everyone" doesn't include higher-ups who knew about it).

Wow. KBS didn't help themselves by calling it an accident, that was a ridiculous choice of wording.

Funny it just started on KBS World Finally . Ep 1 aired tonight and 2 tomorrow . With that i would assume the whole series is going to air . There will probably not be a break on KBS World so that will bring it closer to the broadcast everyone here is watching . Kokawa has it in much better quality, the version on world looks like itβs been dubbed down a couple of times .

I wonder how far along they are in the production schedule. They probably aren't finished but you have to think they're within ten episodes or so at most. Maybe they'll finish the production (without horses!) and then hang onto the episodes for a later time, try to make some money off the series down the road a bit after they've shown good conduct for a while.

I agree with a topic like this they could easily switch to political disputes and palace backstabbing . They could redo the final scene from Tears Of The Dragon where Sejong is having the rain ceremony with no rain . Bangwon appears and starts tearfully confessing about all the people he has killed as the theme music starts and the rain comes . He eventually dies in Sejongs arms .
I could not watch the whole series as itβs unsubbed but this scene was in the final 10 minutes of the last episode, I watched it on Dramacool . Anyway it was such a powerful scene it may bring a redemptive arc to this series if they did something like that .
What i could see happening is more dramas in the Joseon era and Japanese occupation and few if any set in the 3 Kingdoms/ Goryeo period so they do not have to use horses .

Pretty sure the Three Kingdoms and Goryeo period had people on horses. There's mentions of cavalry.
And I believe Imperial Japanese officers used horses, even if they were probably for ceremonial purposes.

Oh I'm not suggesting they never use horses again in a series--there's no way they could do that. They just need to set up a system of proper oversight and precautions to make sure the horses stay safe and healthy. If you look at the end credits of a USA movie that uses animals, you'll always see a sentence about how the production was monitored by one of the humane organizations to ensure that the animals were okay. That's the kind of thing that KBS needs to set up, and then they'll be fine.
I was thinking about EWG, from back in 2001. They used a whole lot of horses for that one, and some of them were ridden by the lead actors and actresses--you can't go cheap on how you treat your horses if the cast themselves will be riding on them. And we've seen that in most of the historicals we've watched here (maybe all of them!). So it seems like the issue is making sure to hire the right horse trainers who treat their horses properly and know how to do tricks and stunts that look good but are safe too.
This is very fixable if KBS handles it the right way.

Exactly if the US can still make westerns than KBS can make drama's with horses .

Just an FYI, I saw the post above by MTR regarding KBS world yesterday (Sunday, 1/23) and I managed to catch it here in LA about 15 mins before the end. Judging by the reviews here, I think I saw episode 4, so I'm not sure when eps 1 & 2 aired. Our cable system still lists the time slot as "Return of Superman" in the Program Guide, so who knows?
It was fun to see so many familiar faces again! One thing left me thunderstruck, and forgive me if this has been mentioned and I just missed it: But isn't the actor playing Yi Songyee the same man who portrayed King Tajeo (Bangwon) in both Great King Sejong (BEST TV DRAMA IN HISTORY) & Jang Young-sil??? I nearly fell off my sofa when I saw him!

Yep that's right! Kim Young Cheol played them both plus Taejo in JTBC's My Country!

Hey Steve, nice to hear from you again. If you need to catch up, the first few episodes are posted on DramaCool.
Yeah that's the same guy. Also played Goongyae in Emperor Wang Guhn.

Appears to becoming a thing.
Yoo Dong Geun played Yi Bangwon in Tears of the Dragon. Years later he plays Yi Seonggye in JDJ. Ahn Jaemo played Sejong in Tears. Ahn Jaemp plays Bangwon in JDJ.
Kim Yeongcheol played Yi Bangwon. He plays Yi Seonggye later.
I will laugh if the actor for Sejong in GKS plays Yi Bangwon in the future, regardless of whether its a KBS historical or not.

The sageuk Naver cafΓ© is panicking over a post supposedly from internal staff at KBS saying cancellation is on the table but they need opposition. A picture of the front cover of Episode 19's official script was uploaded as "proof". Members have taken to calling KBS viewer hotline to tell them they don't want a cancellation. Edit: a petition on KBS' website has been opened petitions.kbs.co.kr/m/view.html?petition_sno=13327

If you could lift me out of my cluelessness, what is the sageuk Naver cafΓ©? As best as I can tell it's sort of a Korean version of this kind of forum for fans of historicals. Is that correct? Not having much luck translating pages for this. There's a Wikipedia page for Naver...sounds like it's South Korea's answer to Google and it also hosts a Korean equivalent of ProBoards.
Anyway, wish there was something that English speakers could do on this, I sure would help...but only after KBS announces their plans to prevent such a horrible thing from ever happening again.
