This one sure trended in the right direction...started off still bogged down in Ahjagae’s recovery and then as it moved past it, things got more and more entertaining.
Hmm, possibly Kyun-hwon still hasn’t learned to control his impulsiveness? He’s trying...Seems to me that if Koryo has amassed troops by Sangju and KH can’t control himself, the best option is fake a buildup at Sangju and then go strike Geumsung to get that back. Much better odds, gets some revenge, and you can’t be criticized for attacking your father. Anybody gonna suggest that?
Ahjagae: “This castle belongs to Koryo now.” So finally there we have it. About time they told us. And they just couldn’t send the old battleaxe off to Koryo without one last rant about KH, could they.
It’s great that Daegu is still giving the cold shoulder to Sulhee after all this time. I figured once her father recovered she’d feel obligated to marry Sulhee and be unhappy for the rest of her life, and get a bad deal just like a lot of the other women in this series. You hang tough kiddo.
Gee they put a lot of work and money into that one glimpse of Ahjagae leaving for Koryo. Lots of people and horses and the special carriage, all on location, just for that one thing. They do this kind of thing a lot.
Choi Seung Woo: “Turn your eyes away from this indignity and take advantage of Koryo’s distraction to go after another territory. You must be rational.” There ya go! But then good heavens suddenly KH is flipping out like he’s gone certifiably bonkers. And then in the next moment, well look at that, coughing up blood. Gee wonder what that means...wow this was awfully sudden.
“I guess our emperor has the confidence of the world. Just imagine, a king’s father choosing his son’s enemy!” THANK you! Now is that so hard to do? A procession goes by and we hear from a couple of regular citizens who are there, reinforcing what this all means to the country and how they see it. It does so very much good to hear from regular people. Loved it.
The old battleaxe says she’s never taken a coach ride before? Really? Wow that’s kind of sad...maybe a few more of them and she’d stop being such a battleaxe.
Why is Choi Ung getting credit from Bekjae for masterminding the whole thing? All he did was help with the final step. Calling him a prodigy, that was odd. But that aside, the Bekjae scenes are the best thing in the series right now, certainly more interesting than anything we’re seeing with WG. This was Goongyae’s series until he died, and now KH and Bekjae are grabbing it.
Tavern owner’s wife: “We live in the new emperor’s world now. What are you trying to do to us?” This whole sequence worked so much better than Hwan Sungil’s attempt and was so much more believable and interesting. It was really good, especially a tavern owner and his wife being tossed into such a huge moral dilemma. The only problem was the TV-generated silliness about a king leading a procession—he’s a sitting duck out there and there’s no way it would have been done like that—but even though we know WG survives this, it still is legitimately scary at this moment because there are a lot of other people in grave danger from those poisoned arrows. (I'm surprised that Bok Jikyum didn't have Yi under surveillance already...but we'll see if they address that next time.)
So finally things are looking up after the way-too-long who-gets-the-ginseng grind.
