Dude, get off the horse. DUH. And LSG is likely the future king, already a kingmaker, but his own security detail doesn’t know where he is? Really? This whole thing felt staged and forced. “Father. The abdicated king and our family can never exist together. One of us has to die.” Okay how did he know it was the king? Seems like a continuity problem there--he couldn't have known that Kim Jeo spilled the beans on King U; he was unconscious the whole time. Well gee, now we know why Mongju gets it in the end! Not even so much what he said to Bangwon about there being no cause, but the way he said it and rubbed Bangwon’s nose in the dirt. Who knows if it really happened that way but here it gives Bangwon extra reason to be mad at him. Interesting piece of writing. “He looks just like you.” “Am I that ugly?” That actually worked...unlike the short-guy joke earlier on. Still running 50/50 on the humor. Hmm...the whole idea to challenge King U’s birthright came from Bangwon and not Jeong Dojeon? I don’t remember it that way at all...am I wrong? It seems like the series is trying very hard to force Bangwon into every little thing so I’m already getting suspicious. ■ AD 1389, a year after the Wihwado Retreat, Lee Seong Gye claimed to dethrone a false king to enthrone a true one, making the queen dowager approve the order to dethrone King Chang....King Chang was exiled, demoted to a commoner. Lee Seong Gye then supported Wang Yo, Prince Jeongchan, to become the new king as he was a relative by marriage. He became the last king of Goryeo, King Gongyang. One big difference here compared to the Jeong Dojeon series is Mongju simply walking away in disgust versus surprising everyone by jumping on board to help it happen (to preserve the dynasty). I don’t like these differences—they lead to headaches and aspirin and Tylenol and Advil. Speaking of rubbing somebody’s nose in it, how big a dummy is this new king? Rubbing LSG’s nose all over everything and everybody. From what I remember, the Gongyang in Jeong Dojeon had a healthy respect for the precarious position that he was in and never would have acted that way. I wonder if we’ll get the big land-reform controversy next. That was a great storyline in JD.

Okay how did he know it was the king? Seems like a continuity problem there--he couldn't have known that Kim Jeo spilled the beans on King U; he was unconscious the whole time. Kwak Chungbo must have told him in the beginning scene. Historically, Kwak Chungbo went straight to Lee Seonggye to spill the beans, not Lee Bangwon. Hmm...the whole idea to challenge King U’s birthright came from Bangwon and not Jeong Dojeon? I don’t remember it that way at all...am I wrong? It seems like the series is trying very hard to force Bangwon into every little thing so I’m already getting suspicious. We don't really know whose idea it was, so writers from both dramas are taking liberty. It was Jeong Dojeon's idea in Jeong Dojeon since he was the main character there. It's Lee Bangwon's idea in this drama because he's the main character in this one. It could have been Lee Seonggye's idea. Could've been Jeong Dojeon, could've been Jo Jun, who knows? It's not written in the history book. All we know is that Lee Seonggye used that idea to dethrone King Chang and enthrone King Gongyang. One big difference here compared to the Jeong Dojeon series is Mongju simply walking away in disgust versus surprising everyone by jumping on board to help it happen (to preserve the dynasty). I don’t like these differences—they lead to headaches and aspirin and Tylenol and Advil. Jeong Mongju was on board to help it happen in history, so the way it was shown in Jeong Dojeon was more accurate. We don't know the actual reason why he was on board, however. Jeong Dojeon's writer took liberty by having him participate to preserve the dynasty. He could've participated to preserve the dynasty or it could simply be that he still didn't know that Lee Seonggye was ultimately wanting to become the king himself. He was on board with Lee Seonggye all the time before King Gongyang became king and Lee Seonggye's ambition became more apparent. He agreed with the Wihwado Retreat, dethroning King Woo and Chang. Jeong Mongju was Lee Seonggye's very close friend. He probably thought Lee Seonggye was just gonna be someone as powerful as Lee In Yim was, or the military dictators during the Goryeo's military regime era. He only turned his back on LSG when he realized that LSG had ambition of becoming king. We don't know when he realized this, however. He could've learned this while Chang was still king or it could have been afterwards. To this drama's defense, he left the meeting in disgust but he still participated in dethroning Chang as you can see him with LSG and others when they're getting the seal from Empress Dowager. They skipped the reason, but he could have joined the gang to preseve the dynasty as he did in Jeong Dojeon as well. I like the acting for Jeong Mongju in this drama. Yim Ho's Jeong Mongju is still my favorite, but I'd say this Jeong Mongju is also very good as well. Jeong Dojeon's Gongyang is more accurate than Gongyang in this drama. It is true that Gongyang tried his best to preserve the dynasty(ex. teaming up with Jeong Mongju), but he would never act the way he did to LSG in this drama. I complained about age of actors playing LBW's brothers before and now here's another complaint. Jo Jun was 43 when King Gongyang was enthroned. Actor playing him in this drama is 72. Nam Eun was 36 when King Gongyang was enthroned. Actor playing him in this drama is 66. I know people at the time probably looked a lot older than people of same age today, but come on, 72 year old playing 43 and 66 year old playing 36 is too much lol. Why couldn't they get someone in 40s or at least someone in 50s to play them?

At the scene where they were discussing just cause to remove the king, I was thinking "bring up Sin Don bring up Shin Don why aren't you bringing up Shin Don"
And when Bangwon finally puts forward the idea, I thought "finally"
Lee Kwang-gi really fits the schemer role incredibly well. I keep forgetting he's supposed to be Jeong Do jeon, not Ha Ryun from Jeong Dojeon.

Kwak Chungbo must have told him in the beginning scene. Historically, Kwak Chungbo went straight to Lee Seonggye to spill the beans, not Lee Bangwon. Yeah I suppose that's possible...we didn't see Bangwon leave him and there could have been more said between them. The brief torture scene revealed the truth to everyone, but I suppose they would have had to get a confession even if they already knew the culprit. OK they can have the benefit of the doubt on that. Thanks for pointing out those additional age issues; I wouldn't have picked up on those. Clearly we have a casting issue because now we're getting beyond just whatever they're trying to do with the brothers. Oh by the way it looks like anyone watching on Kocowa is in for a surprise. I went back to watch the opening of episode 3 again and couldn't open it without a paid subscription! The first two episodes are still free...Wondering if you have 24 hours to watch each episode free with ads. I'll keep everyone posted on that as I work with it more. Yikes.

I'm still figuring out the site myself, but I believe the deal is that you have 24 hours after the episode is posted to watch it with ads as a non-paying member, and then it gets locked. The first two episodes stay open so people can sample the series.
You can buy a one-day subscription for $1 and catch up that way. Or the episodes are on DramaCool for free (and they seemed to have gotten some of their pop-up ad problems under control). I'd always rather go to a licensed site, but Kocowa has made this all so obtuse and confusing that I can't defend them on it.
