I see Yunhwa is still prominently featured in the opening titles. They haven’t changed them at all since the beginning so I guess she’ll stay in there.
Right off the bat I gotta call shenanigans. That opening shot of the attendants walking hurriedly through the palace yard, they’ve used that multiple times before and it's becoming noticeable by now. Come on guys, you put all that money into those narrated text montages, you can take a few different angle shots of people just walking around. Let’s not get lazy, you’re doing so well.
Hyung-mi talking trash to Eunbu, that didn’t seem very wise (especially for a monk). If he’s only trying to provoke him, mission accomplished...but you’d think he’d want to be more persuasive and at least challenge Eunbu to stop protecting Goongyae.
Huhwal to Jongkahn: “If there is any hope, it is not for the emperor to change, but for people like you who administer the state to accept and understand the reality.” Well see there ya go, very next scene, that’s how to do it right.
■ Samuwye Masters: It means four masters in state of perfect stillness. They were Kyung-yu, Yi-um, Yuh-um, and Hyung-mi, with Hyung-mi being the second-oldest of the four. All of them studied in China under one master, and were brothers of the faith.
Neungsan: “I had detected a hint of qualm in Commander Jang Il as we traveled together from Naju.” BINGO. Mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I liked the way that actor was showing just a hint of thinking for himself. He did well again in this one. These are great situations, when characters are being tugged in different directions and you don’t know how they’ll react.
Hwan Sungil’s wife: “How could he punish a woman’s private part in front of all those subjects?” So there’s our answer--Goongyae did have Yunhwa executed through her privates. WOW. But did anybody else think it was kind of weird that Mrs. Hwan was laughing about it? You’d think she’d be a little more sympathetic. (Still I’m glad we met her, wish we’d get to meet more of these guys’ wives when they do these home scenes.)
It looks like Hwan Sungil is going to get played just like Sudal got played. Hope so, that was very funny. (I wonder if his wife is going to end up in on it. They don’t usually bring in a wife for a one-off like this.)
Bok Jikyum was talking and in the middle of it, he spit!
Very surprised they let that slip through. Should have been a retake, cause ewww.
“A subject who betrays his master will be betrayed by his own subject. That is why I refuse.” Neungsan did an admirable job of trying to persuade WG...but come on, by now everybody should know that there’s no way WG is going to agree to be a part of any such thing. They’re going to have to do this without him and then roll out the red carpet and lay it all at his feet.
I’m sorry but they need to stop saying that Goongyae is insane. Now he’s even recognizing that he has to unite the Three Kingdoms before doing anything northward. That’s something he could never accept until now. Ruthless, yes he’s become unnecessarily cruel and punitive. But not insane. We understand his reasoning for what he’s doing and it does make sense, even though we may not agree with it.
