A very strong episode, start to finish. Which was surprising because of the weak cliffhanger ending of the previous one, and also just because the whole WG/Yunhwa angle got sort of tiresome for a while. But now it’s starting to have real consequences and the way it’s being written and presented is excellent.
Right from the beginning—-certainly didn’t expect such an honest conversation between WG and Goongyae. Goongyae was more insightful and wiser than we’ve seen him for a long time. Maybe too much—-it was almost surprising how calm and insightful he was after seeing so much impulsiveness and instability from him lately. Like was he even capable of this any more? But whatever, it was all written and acted well.
And the audible exhale from WG when he left the room, had to laugh!
Maybe a little too much music throughout the scene, but the music was outstanding. In fact the music throughout the episode was good.
Goongyae: “I shouldn’t have let Ahjitae speak.” BINGO!
Master healer: “However, there is terrible discomfort when the drug starts to take effect.” “The medicine must be consumed in one draught.” “The 100th day, the day the potion is perfected, is an inauspicious day.” Well gee what could possibly go wrong? Dug us a mine field right there, didn’t he.
Choi Seung Woo. “We could profit greatly from the situation by sending an agent to induce dissension.” Now there is a smart guy right there. But the way everybody else reacted like it was such a novel idea, well no. A rare continuity error there, because they did the same thing once before. And not too long ago—around episodes 70-76 when those former subordinates of Yangil went to Kyun-hwon and offered to go to Majin and sow dissension and try to assassinate Goongyae, and CSW had dug up dirt on Goongyae to spread. Remember? WG got arrested and sat in jail while his army got beat.
That kid Choi Ung, he may be a prodigy but he sure didn’t do a good job of reporting to Goongyae what Lord Park told him.
KH: “I do sympathize with Goongyae for developing such a wicked illness. He was once a hero of all heroes.” He remains a very interesting guy. Understandable why Goongyae is getting a lot more of the screen time at this point, but it’s too bad that some of it is coming at KH’s expense.
This messenger who’s going back and forth to Naju, how come we don’t get a name for him? He has a big part in this episode and he’s obviously a very capable person.
Doyoung hasn’t been as annoying lately. Just an observation.
“Your beauty rivals that of legendary Yang Kuei-fei.” Not a clue. Here ya go:

And then the ending scene with Yunhwa and Goongyae was like a bookend with the opening--very strong, turned out to be even touching. Great decision to end it right there.
