Good grief, why did WG let Ahjitae keep talking? ENOUGH! Goongyae has shown some unusual patience in these situations, maybe we can expect this from him. But WG did a terrible job handling this. Terrible! And Taepyoung deserves some blame here too for not anticipating that Ahjitae might try this.
As soon as Ahjitae started talking smack about the empress, that was the perfect excuse to gag him and haul him away. But no, WG just stands there with that deer-in-the-headlights look and lets him keep going. Okay maybe you can blame his inexperience, but wow he sure didn’t handle this like someone who was a great leader. Wow.
And then near the end when Ahjitae knows he’s doomed, he finally says “I shall speak the truth.” Well by his own words he wasn’t speaking the truth previously...or at least WG should have jumped on it and spun it that way. Missed that chance too. It went on for nine minutes—beyond his yammering at the end of the previous episode--before they finally shut him up.
And frankly if I’m WG I’m going to head right to Goongyae and clear this all up immediately. IMMEDIATELY, before it starts to take on a life of its own, and before Goongyae starts working it through his increasingly addled brain and turns it into who knows what.
But to be fair, WG did say that he was too inexperienced to be the imperial guardian. So I guess we shouldn’t be surprised to see him mishandle this.
Buyong: “Everyone in Song-ak knew of them at the time.” Well there ya go. Certainly there were other ways that Goongyae could have found out.
Doyoung: “Ahjitae was his majesty’s proxy. By destroying him, husband has overstepped his authority....He has become a threat to his majesty.” You know what, give her a lot of credit here, she had some excellent insight.
After all of that I was almost glad to see Park Sulhee sucking up to crazy old Ahjagae. Almost. Not quite. Ugh.
The ending certainly was effective—the way they showed the latest violent episode, it was very good.
