“Lack in blessings?!? Does this mean Master Dosun foresaw my doom?” The opening scene was disappointing at first—yet another anxiety attack—but with the flashbacks and the internal struggle we saw, it turned out to be excellent. Really good job by the actor. And well scored too.
And fair is fair—he picked up a small pitcher, tipped it up to take a drink of wine—and wine overflowed and spilled down his robe. How about that, there was actually liquid in a drinking container! For once. Obviously it was to show him struggling and the only way you can show spillage is having something to spill...but whatever, it was nice not to be annoyed by this for once.
Oh and the physician on site got chewed out for diagnosing his patient correctly. Again the eternal truth about how much that job sucks.
Kyun-hwon riding at the head of his army is unsafe enough, but wow the gold-colored armor he’s wearing makes him a ridiculously visible target. Especially in the sunlight. And he strolls right up to the gate of Geumsung Fortress wearing that stuff, wow....and now it’s nighttime and he’s gleaming a bit in the moonlight. Not smart at all.
“I won’t retreat. Do not relent! Attack!” And now he’s attacking Geumsung? Actually trying to do this with his army so messed up and battered and demoralized? That foolish execution of Sudal may actually benefit them in the end. But wow a heck of a good battle scene, one of the best in the series. Too many fire-arrows but what else is new...a lot of terrific stunt work around all of that fire, and for once the boulders that the defenders threw down on the attackers looked and behaved reasonably like boulders. Well done all around.
Kim On: “I would say King Kyun-hwon is more reckless than brave to stand at the vanguard in a battle such as this.” THANK you.
■ Taebong, the third name of Goongyae’s kingdom...His kingdom was erected under the name of Koryo in the year 901, then it was renamed Majin in 904. In the year 911, Goongyae would again change the name of his kingdom to Taebong and the reign title to Suduk-mansae. The name Taebong was derived from the Book of Changes, and signifies the realization of perfect paradise and the Empire of the Orient. The reign title Suduk-mansae comes from the principium of FIve Elements, and Goongyae’s intent was much like that of Qin Shih Huang. Whereas Shih Huang’s goal was pacification of the Zhou Dynasty, Goongyae’s reign title suggests pacification of the Three Kingdoms.
Wow, with this new reorganization of the government Ahjitae suddenly has a whole lot more clout. So why does Jongkahn still fear WG more than Ahjitae? Wake up and smell the tea dude.
And now listen to Ahjitae talking, he’s not only talking about dumping Goongyae but has already thought it through completely. Yikes.
“I am exhausted. Exhausted....” And that was the end. I do like that the series doesn’t manufacture cliffhangers to end every single episode. It’s a long, long story to tell—if you have to stop then just stop. Shin Don was good about that too.
