Hmmm....Not a lot going on in this one, obviously setting things up for the big battle. The big takeaway is we’re supposed to believe that Tepyoung sat on a dock for a few days and made some sort of brilliant observation that nobody else has made in hundreds of years of commerce and habitation and accumulated knowledge of that coastline. A very tough sell at this point. I don’t know the story of this battle but it’s going to take quite an explanation to get this to work.
Doyoung: “I prefer the battlefield to the stuffy home.” And then she talks like she’s an actual warrior. Ugh. Maybe we can send her to some remote northern outpost?
Tepyoung: “I am suggesting we pray to the gods.” Is it unreasonable to blame WG at least partly for this situation? It was never going to be easy to maintain the captured province, so shouldn’t somebody have made the kingdom better prepared to defend it? They’re all standing around scratching their heads about what to do, well it’s long past time to have answered that question. Seems like a failure of leadership by somebody, if not WG then maybe Goongyae.
Yunhwa on WG: “I was quite disappointed with the change in him.” Really? Seemed like same old person to me, gutless around women and entirely deferring to the throne.
Doyoung: “Can we safely set sail in such cold and wind?” We saw their breath and we could see the breeze. Yaaaay! Good for the producers!
Remember last time when I wondered about that wind direction business...In this one it sounds like when they talk about the northwest wind, they’re referring to the direction the wind goes TO instead of the direction it comes FROM. We know it just the opposite—if somebody says there’s a northwest wind, we understand that to mean the wind comes from the northwest. That would explain it. They’re looking for a southeast wind that will blow them TO the southeast, onto the land and push back the enemy arrows being fired at them from shore. Makes sense, but a map would be a big help. Hopefully next time.
“Zhuge Liang—how did he produce a wind?” Turns out that's a fictious story from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. No evidence that any such thing actually happened. Here’s how Wikipedia summarizes the story:
When we started the series truth alerted us that there would be R3K references in it. This one’s a doozy.
WG to Doyoung: “I want you to take a smaller vessel and sail to Naju through a safe roundabout route.” Well this doesn’t sound wise at all, what if she gets kidnapped? She should not be around right now, not at all. If there’s a transport vessel already prepared for her, it would be just as easy to have it prepared back home and she can set sail when the battle ends. Please somebody get her out of here, this is just plain silly.
Tepyoung: “A southeast wind will blow for two to four hours in exactly seven days.” Going waaaay out on a limb here, writers, hope you can back this up!
Kyun-hwon: “We’ve already won this fight. There is no way they can defeat us this time!” I didn’t like him saying that, because that’s the old, impulsive KH talking and we’ve seen him grow smarter and move beyond that. Wish that scene had been written differently, have to fault the writers here.

Before the Battle of Red Cliffs, after all preparations have been made for a fire attack on Cao Cao's fleet, Zhou Yu suddenly realises that in order for the attack to be successful, the wind must be blowing from the southeast towards Cao Cao's position or else it would be his own fleet that catches fire. When he sees the wind blowing from the northwest, he coughs blood, faints and falls sick. Zhuge Liang visits him and points out the root cause of his sudden illness – his worries about the direction of the wind. He claims that he can change the direction of the winds in their favour through a ritual. Zhou Yu then orders his men to set up an altar according to Zhuge Liang's instructions; Zhuge Liang performs a ritual on the altar for three days and three nights. On the third night, the wind changes direction and starts blowing from the southeast. Zhuge Liang leaves immediately as he knows that Zhou Yu will send his men to kill him. As Zhuge Liang foresaw, Zhou Yu sends Ding Feng and Xu Sheng to execute him, but he has already fled on a boat captained by Zhao Yun.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictitious_stories_in_Romance_of_the_Three_Kingdoms#Zhuge_Liang_summons_an_eastern_wind
