Really? The new wife is riding second at the head of the military procession? Come on. Of course they want to remind us right off the bat that she’s in the picture now. But does she have to be literally in the picture? They could show her in a palanquin or wherever just as easily. They did the same thing with Doyoung too. Or is that legit—did the wife ride up front? Maybe I’m wrong.
WG: “Me as the emperor? What do they want me to do?” The rest of the opening was very good—seeing WG’s mind evolving as he’s wrestling more and more with what’s being tossed at him.
Yet another good Bekjae council scene. Not just Kyun-hwon showing growth, don’t act in haste, etc. but also the question of how Geumsung is faring with the rest of Majin in such distress, and whether or not that could sour them on their decision to flip to Majin. We’ve needed to get to this for a while now.
Madame Kobe must have the strongest neck in the kingdom to not topple over from those earrings.
Buyong: “How can you laugh, Doyoung? I do not find that amusing.” Yeah you have every right not to be amused. At least Doyoung isn’t grumbling about it any more, so there’s some progress at least.
“In truth, Parhae is our sister country. It was founded by a Koguryo migrant named Taejoyoung.” All right, that’s enough of that! You already pushed the Jang Bogo stuff!
Goongyae: “Now let us go beyond the palace wall.” YES! Please!
“If he were the emperor, he would know—that man died of hunger.” See, this is why I crab all the time about not getting to see enough of the bigger picture, even in a lot of the good series. This one scene conveyed more about the reality of the suffering kingdom and Goongyae’s disconnect from it (and everyone’s bizarre fear of telling him the truth) than twenty scenes of assembly meetings. Loved it. Yes you have to scout a new location and hire some people to play commoners, but it’s soooo worth it.
Mrs. Park: “I’m glad we did not allow our Yunhwa to marry him.” HA! That sure came out of nowhere. Good that we can laugh about it now, it was a real drag there for a while.
“The elder of the house is sister Buyong, but I oversee the affairs of the household.” Hmmm, how did that happen?
Suin: “May I leave?” Well now what was that? All of a sudden the ominous music, and the scowl from Doyoung...what did I miss there? Maybe she was a little impolite for not waiting to be given leave? Maybe, but geez it’s not like she was slipping intelligence to enemy agents. Calm down everybody.
Deja vu with the ending...now it’s WG’s turn, let’s see if his underwear stays cleaner than Ahjitae’s.
p.s. For once and for all, somebody needs to make a device to measure grace.
