So this week, not only is GoodDrama still not working, but every time I tried to watch on DramaCool it was distorting the video into widescreen aspect ratio...and of course it was shot in analog in the good old 4:3. Ugh! So I went to DailyMotion and found it available and displaying correctly there. You have to look around for the episodes, they’re not all presented in a neat ordered list...but I found this episode there and it streamed without any trouble.
A rural village! Yay!!! Good start to the episode. We sure do need to see a lot more of that. Instantly things got more interesting, just from the different setting and the sight of so many new people.
An infectious disease outbreak....Ugh, so much for watching the series for escapism.
The narrated text:
And a terrific montage to go with it. They put a big effort into this one. I always end up going back and watching these sequences twice, once to hear the text and then to see the details of the montages.
Ahjitae: “The time has come to elevate your magnificence. Shed your plain robe that signified humility.” Funny because just during the montage I was thinking how much I liked Goongyae continuing to wear the plain garments. Don’t care for the gold duds at all. But at least he still has the beads on.
Wow Eunbu was awfully cold talking about the suffering citizens. He's a better person than that.
Jongkahn: “Ahjitae is not the problem. His Majesty is the one who has changed.” That's a big change in his view. Not sure he's right. Seems like if you get Ahjitae out of there you can bring Goongyae back to reality.
Kyun-hwon: “Goongyae is making the same mistake I once made. Our loss of Geumsung was due to imposition of excessive levies for military development.” Something like this came up once before, but I'll say again how impressive it is that the king will speak frankly about his mistakes and show that he's learned from one. Really liked this.
Hey it’s Oh Darin! We haven’t seen him in forever.
Buyong finally ditched her bonnet. Looking good, gotta say. WG is a lucky man.
Anybody else feel like they overdid it just a bit with Goongyae’s illness? They really sold it hard, didn’t they. Felt to me like a little too much too soon. I don’t think Goongyae is going anywhere just yet and this seems very strong and severe.
Overall not a lot happening in this one but it was good nonetheless.

The narrated text:
Imperial City relocation: The Chronicles of Koryo depicts this time like this: Goongyae abandoned the city of Song-ak and built a new imperial city in Buyang. Forced conscription for city building left people tired and famished, as time for farming was lost. Shortage of food and ensuing epidemic caused much of the population to perish. An excerpt in the Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms reads, “Goongyae’s wastage reached extreme heights when he built his new capital.” These records clearly depict the condition at the time of the relocation, and many historians attribute this to Goongyae’s fall. Enormous levies of manpower, resources, and repressive measures provoked a rebellion, which overthrew his government.
