GoodDrama still not working; watched on DramaCool again.
Jongkahn: “How could the absence of one general have such a dramatic impact?” Ummm, no it wasn’t just him being absent. It was all of the confusion and turmoil and concern that YOU caused by calling him back. You dumbbell.
“I am Maitreya. I have the power to read minds.” Well didn’t that come back in an interesting way. We heard that a while ago and it was real Looney Tunes stuff, but in a sense he did read their minds here—by making them nervous enough that he could spot the one guy who would crack and spill the beans. This was the key scene in the episode and it was definitely worth the wait. Didn’t go like I expected—I figured Jongkahn was going to be severely punished and obviously he wasn’t—but it was very entertaining. And beating a guy to death with an iron ball flail, that’s a new one, isn’t it? I don’t think we’ve seen it in a historical before.
“Brother Guhn, why are you here when you should be at the front?” Well that’s kind of an unreasonable question, isn’t it? Of course he knows the answer already, but still, he’s not the one who recalled him....“Why did you put yourself in a position to be accused?” Now that’s a ridiculous question! Isn’t it? I mean, anybody can fire an arrow and say The Wangs made me do it.
And then at the end of it all, suddenly the wry smile—that was absolutely hilarious. “See how simple that was, Advisor?” What a terrific moment. Cracked me up.
All of the horrified reaction to Goongyae’s “brutality” at the hearing...what the heck? The only person who got it right, amazingly, was Yunhwa’s attendant Suli. You’d have lost a lot of money betting on that one. This is how things can happen at an inquisition, she said. Those prisoners would all have been executed at Goongyae’s command anyway, but the way he handled it, he got the truth out and even spared one of them. Maybe the iron ball flail was unnecessarily crude compared to a sword-blow, but otherwise people should have been buzzing about how effective he was.
And you have to wonder if Lord Kang or Bok Jikyum left that courtyard with clean underwear. Goongyae has two prisoners beaten to death and then calls their names. Yikes.
Pyungdal and the two teachers exiled for life to a remote island, that's a bum deal. They got set up and Goongyae certainly knows that. They “earned Advisor’s suspicion” of coveting the throne for WG? There’s no proof of any such thing from any of them. And one of those teachers was part of the covert mission to Geumsung that convinced Oh Darin to support Koryo’s invasion. He provided an incredibly valuable service to the country. I have to wonder if Goongyae sentenced them for his own reasons and will let them come home after a while. We’ll see.
Goongyae: “It was a terrible mistake to put Hwan Sungil in command. He is not a bright man by any means.” Ouch. No merit bonus for Hwan this year.
“Advisor is too rigid and uptight, and Guhn has not exerted enough effort to assuage his suspicion.” THANK you Goongyae. How many times did I say that WG needed to go to Jongkahn and clear the air about his intentions and the whole prophesy stuff. But he never did.
And come to think of it, that must have been Goongyae’s point in asking the seemingly ridiculous question about how WG got himself accused. Sheesh for all of the talk about him going crazy, he was the smartest guy in the room by a long way in this episode.
Again with Doyoung sitting higher up at the table than Buyong? Stop that! It’s wrong and whoever is directing these scenes should know that.
Hey hey a narrated text—-finally! But a disappointing one.
We knew all of this already, or at least can pretty clearly see what’s coming. What we needed was information about how much of the story in recent episodes is historically true—the assassination attempt, the Wangs being falsely accused, the military setback. Sure hope some of it gets addressed in the next episode.

On July of 905 SD, one year after Goongyae renamed his kingdom Majin, Goongyae finally completed his new palace in Chulwon and began to transfer his capital city. Henceforth, he gives free rein to his ambition. His ambition, in reality, was a deplorable struggle for unification and territory expansion, and his despotism slowly began to surface.
