That was some nightmare Goongyae had. It started out like a Kingdom episode! Well done.
When Yunhwa was sitting at Goongyae’s bedside she showed more sadness than I would have expected. Like she cared for him more than we’ve seen from her. Strange.
Now if I were Jongkahn and wanted to be fair to the Wangs, I would have brought two other people out first and seen whether or not the assassins assumed they were WG and Pyungdal. But of course he has no intention of being fair to the Wangs.
Jongkahn: “Albeit the Wangs may be innocent, they are potential evil in this kingdom.” And there it is.
The highlight of the episode was the scene in the prison cell. Ahjitae speaking with complete frankness, it was riveting stuff. Only the second time he’s dropped his facade, the other when he admitted to Park Yu that he was manipulating Goongyae for his own ends (and that was a terrific scene as well). Even admitting that he was the cause of Goongyae’s “deterioration”—sure did not ever expect to hear that from him. Maybe he thinks it’s all over so what’s to lose.
“Only by transmitting qi (life energy) into his body can the poison be extracted from his system.” UGH. So he’s a nut. Hope this doesn’t actually save Goongyae; it would be ridiculous.
“I can’t decide whether saving a phony maitreya is the right thing.” Wait a minute, maybe this guy is okay after all.
“I may imitate a master, but I am not really a master.” Suddenly he’s gotten very interesting. And right away he’s faced with a big moral dilemma: if he has the compassion for poor peasants that he says he has, then clearly the right thing is to let Goongyae die. Or is it?
No real surprises in this episode; we knew what was going to happen and now it’s playing out. Still it was good, as usual.
