A calmer episode, one of those setting-things-up points in the series.
Why is Doyoung preparing some sort of banquet for the empress and not running it by Buyong? She’s supposed to be #2 in that household. Buyong should have been told about it.
Mind reading? Oh this just gets worse and worse. Now Goongyae tells people he knows how they feel--and if they tell him he’s incorrect he says they’re denying his legitimacy. Wow, talk about a catch-22. And calling everybody else “sentient beings”? Well we know he’s gone nuts so I guess that’s to be expected.
WG did it again. Would you send Park Sulhee on a mission of deception to Ahjagae? With his history? Who’s to say he won’t crack and spill the beans to the daughter. Sure he’s made friends with the guy but WG has plenty of other people who could do the job without distraction.
Another great scene in Bekjae, Kyun-hwon admitting that they lost Geumsung by excessively taxing it to fund the war on Shilla. We keep getting very well written scenes on the Bekjae side of things. One of the series’ strong points.
Okay this time I’m wrong...Park has the old guy and his wife eating out of his hand. He did his job. Actually that was a pretty darned funny scene. The guy playing Ahjagae continues to do good work, and the bitchy stepmother was good here too.
Still WG plays the company man, not letting anybody question Goongyae’s decisions. Ugh. Well it’s keeping him out of trouble at least.
Sukchong: “May I answer frankly, your majesty?” Yeah you just knew it was coming. That’s a heck of a cliffhanger ending. Have to think the character roster will have a death added to it from Episode 70. Give him huge credit for speaking the truth and knowing his life is probably over for doing it. Wonder if there's any historical truth to this character and what's happening here.
Really a shame that Goongyae's sutra hasn't survived; what a great read it would be.
