It seemed a little tough to believe that nobody could find Buyong. How far away could she have gotten on foot, and wouldn’t the searchers naturally check the monasteries? But then later in the episode we got the impression that a monastery was respected as a place of sanctuary, so maybe it was just sort of accepted that you don’t pester a monastery about this sort of thing. We’ll see how it plays out. It does give us the fun of trying to guess how she’ll eventually be discovered.
Holy moley, that doesn’t look like a skinhead top, I think she really shaved her head! Wow, talk about committing 100 percent, big credit to the actress. That can’t have been an easy decision for her.
Was good to see Mrs. Yu giving her husband the business about his role in all this. He deserves it.
WG: ”I am to be blamed for not communicating the situation clearly.” Clearly? How about not at all? You dumbbell.
I didn’t even mind the awkward meeting between WG and Yunhwa this time. Those were getting to be way overused for a while but at least now there’s some substance and meaning behind it.
Loved the bit about Bekjae digging into Goongyae’s past. It would be a great plot twist if they launched a propaganda attack on Goongyae to erode his support. And a perfect flashback, all the way back from episode 7. Very sophisticated stuff—this ain’t no fusion historical.
Kyun-hwon: “I will grant you to try your way first.” Good for him, showing restraint and wisdom again.
Excellent scene at the construction site. Exactly what this series needs more of, showing the human toll of Goongyae’s decisions. Well done! And I did like how WG bit his tongue and said very little about it. They could have pushed the hero angle and had him speaking up in the workers’ defense, but instead he’s being smart and patient about it, which is what’s making the character believable.
Oh dear, Doyoung again...now she’s talking like she’s trying to play kingmaker. The way she was plotting the coalition that would stand behind her husband, once again you have to worry about her. Ugh.
“I saw a maiden that the whole country is looking for.” Ha! Nice to see Huhwal again, and how about that, both of the monks know exactly who Buyong is after all. But they didn’t turn her in and it sounds like they won’t. And then the two of them talking about Goongyae, this again is helpful stuff showing the mood of the country. “It seems he has grown distant from his people and filled his heart with greed.” These are important guys and it’s important to hear what people like them are thinking.
The ending...well okay it makes for a darned good cliffhanger. And it was staged very well, right down to Eunbu pulling Goongyae out of the way just in time. However...not to be a party-pooper, but think about it: Why attempt this now, when the emperor and a hundred other potential witnesses are there? This is exactly the wrong time for it. Was somebody trying to take out Goongyae as well as Ahjitae? We’ll need some explanation for this eventually because it doesn’t make a lot of sense on the surface right now.
