Geumpil: “All of Geumsung is excited about this wedding.” Well not everyone:
Geez WG looks like it’s his execution day! That sour look on his face was hilarious.
To his credit, he was troubled about not clearing everything with his family and Buyong and her family. So why didn’t he? That’s the big unanswered question, and unfortunately this episode was one of those episodes that you can’t really enjoy fully because of a big unanswered question hanging over it. We just never got a good explanation of why WG couldn’t go back to Song-ak to clear it all up first, and for that matter it also isn’t clear why he had to marry Doyoung first. Yeah he did it because she asked but why would she ask? She said it was important to her, well why? You can’t sit and watch the episode and buy into the story if the premise is faulty.
Wow Pyungdal was pissed. I liked how they wrote that, seemed very realistic that the elder would react that way.
Sudal: “Aaahhh! That bastard! He is making my blood boil!...Wang Guhn that bastard!” Yi Soon-shin! Yi Soon-shin! Ha! Can’t get enough Sudal.
Doyoung: “I shall do my utmost to my elder Lady Buyong.” Hmmm...You want to take her at her word on that...and to be fair she’s never been dishonorable and has never given us any reason to think she’ll be anything other than true to her word. But the way they’ve presented this character, it’s like you can’t help thinking she has some sort of power trip planned for herself and can’t be trusted. Maybe that’s not fair to her but how can you not wonder about it.
The scene with Yunhwa losing her sons, nicely acted by her.
And here the series has made a rare stumble for not showing enough of how those policies are impacting the common people. A lot of other series have made the same mistake, getting stuck too much in the palaces. Didn’t expect that from this one...but yes all we’ve really seen of these developments has been Goongyae announcing things and officials getting annoyed with him. We needed at least one scene per episode in the recent episodes showing villagers getting relocated or doing forced labor, and also some scenes with nobles dealing with big tax hikes. This is what’s causing the first strains on Goongyae’s reign; it’s way too important not to show us in full.
Lord Yu: “An open discussion is necessary! Kyun-hwon’s mistakes could provide us with valuable insight.” Daughter-pimping aside, he really is the cream of the crop, even among the nobles.
“She will pay dearly someday. She is the root of evil.” There’s the Mrs. Kyun-hwon we know and love!
The departure scene was very nice. Continuing to really like the guy playing Oh Darin. He’s excellent. But why is Doyoung standing at the command bow of the flagship? I don’t care if she is his new wife, WG shouldn’t be allowing that. It’s a military vessel and there needs to be proper discipline.
And this all gets dragged into another episode, as we wait for Buyong’s side of things. Hope we can move onto other things after that.

■ Goongyae and his Majin Empire...Goongyae finally began to erect his new empire. Citizens of Chungju were moved to Chulwon, peasants were forced to labor in massive public works, and nobles were imposed exorbitant taxes. Goongyae’s tyranny was slowly emerging to the surface. And in the midst of this, he presents a dagger as a gift to the Khitan leader Yeh-lu Apao-chi to display his sovereign power.
