Eun Soo approaches Ji Min with the hopes of marrying him and becoming Woo Joo's (Go Ha Nee) stepmom. -------------------------------------------------------------- Lies of Lies begins airing on Friday, September 4. Lee Yuri and Yeon Jung Hoon previously worked together in the 2003 KBS daily drama Yellow Handkerchief. This series has the plot of a daily drama but is only 16 episodes. I'll be watching and considered adding a board for it. The problem is I'm not sure how I'll be watching or availability of English subs. So it's better to go with a thread.

Eps 1 & 2
It's 2010. Ji Eun Soo is accused of murdering her husband, Jeon Ki Beom. She was found unconscious next to her dead husband with the murder weapon in hand. Eun Soo is found guilty and sent to prison despite pleading her innocence. Eun Soo gives birth to a baby girl in jail. The baby is sick so Eun Soo reluctantly hands the baby over to Kim Ho Ran, her former mother-in-law. Kang Ji Min is a reporter who suspects Eun Soo might be telling the truth. Ji Min tries unsuccessfully to meet with Eun Soo several times to get her side of the story. Eun Soo's father is killed while attempting to meet with Ji Min. Ji Min and his wife Se Mi are struggling to have a child and adopt Woo Joo from an orphanage.
It's 2020. Eun Soo is released from prison. She goes searching for her daughter. Eun Soo discovers the photos of her daughter she was receiving while in prison were actually of another woman's child. She confronts Ho Ran and her former secretary Yoon Sang Kyu about her missing daughter. Ho Ran promised Eun Soo to raise the baby but secretly asked Sang Kyu to get rid of her. Sang Kyu was supposed to kill the baby but instead gave her up for adoption. Eun Soo is initially led to believe her daughter is dead. After Eun Soo attempts to kill Ho Ran and herself as revenge for her daughter, Sang Kyu confesses that Eun Soo's daughter is still alive. He gives her the address for the family that adopted her. Ji Min still works as a reporter. He's divorced from Se Mi and raising Woo Joo by himself. Ji Min and Woo Joo run into Eun Soo outside his family's restaurant. Woo Joo is Eun Soo's daughter.

Note: You can also find this series under the title Lie After Lie.
This series is about the lies people tell. It wants you, the viewer, to question who is lying and who is telling the truth. I wish the series would have provided more detail on Eun Soo's marriage and how things went sour in their relationship. We get a couple of flashbacks but you're thrown into the middle of the aftermath of her husband's death. I'm sure the series will fill in the blanks as it goes along. I understand Eun Soo is desperate to find her daughter but the way she hovered around the school and approached Woo Joo was kinda creepy. Looking forward to eps 3 & 4.

Eps 5 & 6
Eun Soo spends time with Ji Min during a cherry blossom festival. She's supposed to be moving and leaving Seoul but purposely misses her bus. Eun Soo tells Ji Min that she's glad he was with her as she would have felt lonely otherwise. Woo Joo is sad to learn from Ji Min that Eun Soo left. Se Mi wants another shot with Ji Min. Ji Min runs into Eun Soo at a grocery store. She explains that after the festival he gave her the courage to stay. They make a deal. She'll cook Kimbap for Woo Joo. Ji Min will paint Eun Soo's new place. Eun Soo hands a Ji Min a drawing she did of Ji Min and Woo Joo from the picnic as a gift for Woo Joo. After seeing the drawing, Woo Joo wants Eun Soo to be her art tutor. Eun Soo happily agrees.
Eun Soo gives Woo Joo art lessons. Sang Kyu agrees to keep tabs on Eun Soo for Ho Ran. He shows Ho Ran photos of Ji Min and Eun Soo but leaves out any including Woo Joo. Ji Min's mom learns from a fortune teller that Ji Min will have 2 women in his life. Se Mi spots Ji Min with Eun Soo outside his home. Ji Min’s neighbor Mi Jin is Eun Soo's former cellmate. Eun Soo and Mi Jin pretend to be schoolmates. Mi Jin is now married and has a stepson Jin Kook. Jin Kook is Woo Joo's classmate. Eun Soo asks Mi Jin not to say anything about her past to Ji Min and Woo Joo. Eun Soo attends a parents meeting with Mi Jin for Woo Joo's school. She talks her way into teaching art to Woo Joo's class. Ho Ran is suspicious of Eun Soo and meets with her. Ho Ran is surprised Eun Soo is seeing someone and not out for revenge against her. Eun Soo responds that she thought the best revenge was to meet someone new and be happy. David spots Eun Soo getting into a taxi and misses an event for D.O trying to follow her. Ho Ran's secretary verifies the info she got from Sang Kyu. Ho Ran notices Woo Joo in the photos and wonders why Sang Kyu left out Ji Min having a daughter. Ho Ran's secretary confirms that Ji Min is Se Mi's ex. Se Mi apologizes to Ho Ran for David missing the event. Se Mi mentions to Ho Ran wanting to get back with Ji Min but neither him or Woo Joo want her back in their lives. Ho Ran learns that Woo Joo isn't Ji Min and Se Mi's biological daughter. Eun Soo and Ji Min are supposed to watch a movie but he arrives too late due to work. Woo Joo gives Eun Soo a drawing of Eun Soo as gift while Ho Ran watches them from a distance.
-------------------------------------------------
Eun Soo was laying it on thick in these episodes. I'm not sure how Sang Kyu is meant to protect Eun Soo and feed Ho Ran info at the same time. I don't care for David or Se Mi. Se Mi I understand somewhat. She's the ex and they needed a way for Ji Min to adopt Woo Joo. David serves no purpose here. He's just another character in an already complicated story.
The small world theme doesn't work in this series. It's too easy for dots to be connected and everyone to figure out who Eun Soo is and what she's up to. I understand that Eun Soo is meant to be caught and the truth eventually revealed. Thing is...it's only episode 6 and, honestly, Eun Soo should have been found out by now. As I mentioned before, you do have to suspend some belief with this series. However, this would be more believable and play out better if the characters weren't so closely connected.

Just thought I would jump in and say I am watching this and am up to EP 4. Although, some of the plot is a bit much, I am really enjoying this. I just wish Eun Soo would change her outfit--- even if she just takes off her hat --- the outfit makes her look like a criminal and doesn't help her situation...

I am up to Ep6 now and I agree with your comments about it being a "small world", people are running into each other, getting information about others and yet no one has really figured out how it all fits together. I would like to know how Eun Soo went from someone with one outfit, to being able to play "dress-up" multiple times? How does she pay for her apartment? Did I miss something? I recall Ji Min telling his daughter to be wary of strangers, yet they go out on a picnic together with Eun Soo and then he invited Eun Soo into his home to be a teacher to his daughter (and they are even alone in the house!) As a reporter and a single dad, I would think he would be much more careful. And Eun Soo laying it on way too thick with Ji Min and his daughter-- it is almost like a stalking.... Overall, I am enjoying this... just too many little things to make it a great drama.

Eps 7 & 8Ho Ran wonders why Sang Kyu neglected to mention Ji Min had a daughter. He answers that he didn't think it was important. Eun Soo attends an art contest held at D.O Cosmetics with Woo Joo. She runs into Ho Ran there but they don't say anything to each other. Eun Soo collapses after the contest and is sick. A worried Ji Min pays her a visit at home. Eun Soo confesses that her husband used to beat her and she collapsed from the trauma. While Eun Soo and Ji Min talk outside her house, they're interrupted by David. He tells Eun Soo that he's Yeon Jun. A kid she used to look after when they were both young. He returned to Korea as promised and wanted to see her again. Eun Soo buys Woo Joo a necklace. Sang Kyu asks the head of the orphanage to get rid of any records of Woo Joo. Ji Min interviews David. David talks about wanting to protect Eun Soo. Ji Min responds that, David being a public figure, he shouldn't be so open about things if he truly cares for her. Se Mi wants to get back together with Ji Min. He's not interested. Ji Min answers a call from Eun Soo in front of Se Mi and makes plans to meet with Eun Soo later. Ji Min has dinner and goes roller skating with Eun Soo. Eun Soo tells Ji Min that David is like a younger brother to her. Ji Min's family wants him to be happy. Ji Min makes plans to watch a movie with Eun Soo. Ho Ran learns that all records of Woo Joo from the orphanage are gone. Ho Ran meets with Se Mi. Se Mi shows Ho ran photos of WooJoo. Ho Ran is convinced Woo Joo is Eun Soo's daughter. Ji Min asks Eun Soo to pick up Woo Joo from school. When she arrives, she finds Ho Ran with Woo Joo. Eun Soo thinks Ho Ran is trying to kidnap Woo Joo and confronts her. Ho Ran says she only wanted to give Woo Joo a gift. Ho Ran was really getting Woo Joo's hair for a dna test. Eun Soo tells Woo Joo that she thought a stranger was trying to kidnap Woo Joo and that's why she reacted the way she did. Eun Soo gives Woo Joo an outdoor art lesson at her home. Eun Soo has dinner with Ji Min and Woo Joo. Ho Ran wants Sang Kyu to run a dna test on 2 hair samples. Woo Joo gets into a fight at school with her classmate Hye Young. Eun Soo hears about it from Mi Jin and rushes to go see Woo Joo. Eun Soo spots Woo Joo being scolded by Hye Young's mother and jumps to her defense. Eun Soo walks with Woo Joo to her family's restaurant. Eun Soo runs into Se Mi and they talk at a cafe. Se Mi introduces herself as Ji Min's ex and Woo Joo's mom. She wants to get back with Ji Min and asks Eun Soo to back off. Eun Soo has no plans to do so. Ji Min waits for Eun Soo at her house. They nake wine and watch a movie together. Eun Soo asks about Se Mi and Ji Min answers that neither him or Woo Joo want to see he again. Eun Soo confesses to having developed feelings for Ji Min. He's unsure how to respond and leaves. Ji Min goes back and overhears David telling Eun Soo that Ji Min is a coward for leaving. Ji Min returns home and finds Se Mi waiting outside. Se Mi wants another shot but Ji Min says its over between them. Se Mi admits to meeting with Eun Soo and asking her to back off. Ji Min avoids Eun Soo for a while. Woo Joo wins 1st place at the art contest and invites Eun Soo over. Eun Soo apologizes to Ji Min if she misunderstood him and made him feel uncomfortable. Ji Min responds that he likes Eun Soo. Eun Soo attends the art contest award ceremony with Woo Joo and Ji Min. Ho Ran tells Se Mi that Eun Soo is Woo Joo's biological mother. Eun Soo meets with Sang Kyu. Eun Soo feels bad about lying to Ji Min. Sang Kyu discovers that the dna test was for Eun Soo and Woo Joo. He asks Ho Ran to leave them alone. Someone breaks into Eun Soo's home. When Ji Min gets home, he finds a photo of Eun Soo and Woo Joo as a baby in his mailbox. ------------------------------------------------------ The way Ho Ran learned the truth about Woo Joo was a bit too convenient but things played out as I expected. Once Ho Ran knew the truth, there was no reason for her to stay quiet and she started messing with Eun Soo's plans. I like the way Yeon Jung Hoon is playing Ji Min. The caring father, hurt by his ex and hesitant to jump into something new. I'm curious how he'll react to Eun Soo being Woo Joo's biological mother. I still find David to be an unnecessary character. Se Mi is annoying but I get why she's there. Unless David is secretly Ho Ran's son or Ji Min's brother, I don't get his purpose in this series. Overall, I am enjoying this... just too many little things to make it a great drama. I think it's safe to assume Eun Soo received financial help from Sang Kyu. Ji Min and Eun Soo remind me of Ji Hoon (Lee Seo Jin) and Hye Soo (Uee) in Marriage Contract. The relationship isn't anything special. What makes it work is the daughter.

I really like the daughter, I think she is doing a great job-- you could see it on her face that she felt a instant kind of bonding with Eun Soo, yet wasn't sure why she felt that way. When Ho Ran asks Sang Kyu about why the daughter wasn't in the pictures he took, I felt he should have replied "It's an adult issue, no reason to drag the daughter into it"
**EDIT** Watched a little more today and was wondering...Do you think Eun Soo should come clean to Ji Min-- telling him that she originally just wanted to be by her daughter, but then grew to like him, too? I think with all the scheming people around her, we all know the truth will come out, she should know it too, better to be upfront now that waiting to see what happens.... What do you think?

I think with all the scheming people around her, we all know the truth will come out, she should know it too, better to be upfront now that waiting to see what happens.... What do you think? Does Eun Soo like Ji Min tho? I think at this point she just feels bad about lying to him because he's a nice guy. So coming clean about Woo Joo being her daughter and saying she developed real feelings for Ji Min would be a lie. I think the story eventually gets there but, this being a Kdrama, there needs to be conflict, misunderstandings and angst galore beforehand. Also, if you watched ep 8, Ho Ran/Se Mi might have beaten Eun Soo to the punch.

The way it looked to me I thought Eun Soo was really falling for Ji Min-- maybe it was just me but if she is not, then she is really playing the part well.....
(I started watching Flower of Evil on Viki while waiting for more of Lie Of Lie to get loaded -- so far it is kinda dark as it deals with murder, but the storyline is interesting)

Woong tells Ho Ran that Ji Min was the reporter trying to contact Eun Soo during the murder case. Ji Min asks a detective for help to find Ki Beom's ex (Eun Soo). Ji Min sends Eun Soo back the things she drew for them and gifted Woo Joo. Se Mi revels in the fact Eun Soo has been exposed and doesn't want her telling Woo Joo the truth about who she is. Sang Kyu has dirt on Ho Ran and threatens her with it. He wants to meet with Ji Min. Eun Soo gets a call from Sang Kyu and she wants him to tell her the truth. Ji Min looks for evidence at the scene. He gets cam footage form a nearby truck and shows it to a detective. The footage a shows a motion light turn on right after Sang Kyu falls. David tells Se Mi that he's no longer meeting Eun Soo. Ji Min's family learns that from Woo Joo that Eun Soo is no longer her art tutor. Hyun Bin informs Ji Min that Sang Kyu was Ho Ran's former secretary. Ji Min learns that Eun Soo is Ki Beom's ex, the woman who went to jail for killing him, and Ho Ran's former daughter in law. David knows the truth about Eun Soo. He believes in her and plans to support her no mater what. David meets with Ji Min. David tells Ji Min that Eun Soo isn't a bad person and hands him an envelope that belonged to Eun Soo. Ji Min's dad attempts to ask about Eun Soo but Ji Min responds that he'll explain everything later. Ji Min's mom goes to see Eun Soo to ask what happened between ji Min and her. While their talking, Ji Min's mom gets a call that Woo Joo is in the hospital after an asthma attack. Eun Soo goes with her. Eun Soo tells Ji Min the truth about being Ki Beom's ex and going to jail for his murder. Ho Ran promised her she would raise Woo Joo but instead tried to have her killed to get back at Eun Soo. Eun Soo had no idea she was adopted. Eun Soo thinks Sang Kyu had dirt on Ho Ran and she had him killed. Eun Soo asks Ji Min to believe her but he doesn't trust her and, if she's telling the truth, its probably better that she stays far away from Woo Joo. Ji Min finally opens the envelope David gave him and goes thru all the letters Eun Soo tried to send him while in prison. Ji Min listens to the 911 call from the time of Ki Beom's murder and is convinced Eun Soo's voice was edited. Ji Min openly questions Ho Ran at an event about her son's death, Ji Min being sent abroad and the possibility of Eun Soo being innocent. Ji Min and Eun Soo are talking in the hospital when Ho Ran shows up. She's there to see Woo Joo. ---------------------------------------------------------- You could see Sang Kyu's death coming a mile away. I don't understand why Kdrama characters always reveal their cards before they have to. Sang Kyu was dumb to confront Ho Ran with what dirt he had on her before meeting with Ji Min and Eun Soo. Ji Min was also dumb to provoke Ho Ran at the event. It was kinda obvious that Ho Ran's next move would be to use Woo Joo against Ji Min and Eun Soo. This series is crazy, in a fun way, but a bit predictable at times. (I started watching Flower of Evil on Viki while waiting for more of Lie Of Lie to get loaded -- so far it is kinda dark as it deals with murder, but the storyline is interesting) I considered watching Flower of Evil but just bad timing for me. Had other stuff to watch while it was airing. Now with Lies of Lies & other series starting, I don't have time for it. I found out what happens thru recaps and reviews.

They'll continue to play the part of a couple in order to take down Ho Ran. Ho Ran threatens to pull D.O sponsorship from Channel A because of Ji Min. Ji Min looks into why he never received any of Eun Soo's letters. Security footage shows a man leaving the scene of Sang Kyu's death. Woo Joo approves if Ji Min wants to mary Eun Soo. Ji Min and Eun Soo have dinner with his parents. Se Mi threatens to tell everyone about Eun Soo if she doesn't back off. The ceremony comes to a halt when Woo Joo asks if Eun Soo is a murderer.
--------------------------------------
Given everything that's happened, past and present, I'm surprised that Ji Min and Eun Soo would want to hold a wedding ceremony. 4 more episodes left.

Eps 13 & 14

Woo Joo is really sick and needs a lung transplant. Ji Min and Eun Soo attempt to assure Woo Joo Eun Soo is not a killer. Once Eun Soo learns the truth about Woo Joo's illness, she offers to be the donor. She has to prove she's Woo Joo's biological mother to do it. David does some digging on Ho Ran and the painter Kim Hyang Gi.
Ho Ran learns of Woo Joo's illness. She offers Ji Min to pay for Woo Joo's surgery but he must leave Eun Soo. Ji Min confesses to his family about Woo Joo's illness and Eun Soo being her biological mother. David helps Ji Min and Eun Soo uncover Ho Ran's embezzlement. Eun Soo is approved by the hospital as donor for Woo Joo. Ho Ran attempts to stop it but Eun Soo hands her dna test results showing that Ho Ran isn't actually Woo Joo's grandmother.
-------------------------------
Ji Min had to have something up his sleeve as it didn't make sense for him to trust Ho Ran. While not entirely clear to me, the way I understood it, Ho Ran is Hyang Gi and using the paintings to embezzle money. 2 more episodes to go.

Eps 15 & 16
Ho Ran is investigated for embezzlement. Se Mi apologizes to Woo Joo in a letter and explains that Eun Soo isn't a killer. Hwang is questioned by a detective and Ji Min in regards to Sang Kyu's murder and his connection to Ho Ran. Hwang insists Sang Kyu's death was an accident and that he didn't kill Ki Beom. Hwang has a recording of Ho Ran ordering the killing of Ki Beom and framing of Eun Soo. Ho Ran turns herself into police. She confesses to ordering Ki Beom's killing to Ji Min. His life was spiraling out of control do to drugs. In order to protect D.O group and end Ki Beom's suffering, she had him killed. Ho Ran goes to jail. Ji Min discovers another flash drive containing video footage of Woong killing Eun Soo's father. Woong tries to kill Eun Soo but Ji Min stops him. Woong is really the one that killed Ki Beom. Woong is actually Ho Ran's son and the painter Kim Hyang Gi. Woong is found hiding at Ho Ran's villa and arrested. Ji Min tells Woo Joo that Eun Soo is her biological mother. Woo Joo already secretly knew that she was adopted. Woo Joo's surgery is successful. It's one year later. Ji Min, Eun Soo and Woo Joo visit Eun Soo's father's grave. The end.
-------------------------------------------------
I liked Ji Min, Eun Soo and Woo Joo. The relationship between Ji Min and Eun Soo wasn't anything special but Woo Joo made it work. Ji Min's family were really nice. Ho Ran was a good villain. The only issues with the series were the small world theme and its predictability. Some of the suspense was lost because the characters all knew each other and you had an idea of what was going to happen next. Despite that, I liked Lies of Lies. It was an enjoyable watch. I hope you enjoyed the series too.
