Everyone here knows that Kingdom was based on a manhwa. Last month, an English localization of said manhwa has been released by Viz Books; in fact, I have a copy that arrived recently.
Love the cover.
If there are any of ya who wanna check out the source material yourself but don't want spoilers, get away from this thread and go buy or borrow it. You can order it on

Unfortunately the story seems to be unfinished, since it ends in a cliffhanger, making the comic feel like a concept pitch than anything else. I don’t know if the comic was canceled after four chapters or if there are still chapters left unpublished in English but either way, I was taken aback by the incompleteness.
Similarities
-Much like the Netflix show, the hero is a prince, though he is a child in the manhwa as opposed to an adult, but he is still a target of assassination by other factions (ninja assassins chase after him). Also, by being a child, he’s a lot more rude compared to Crown Prince Chang, but his selfless nature such as feeling that a king should never leave his subjects behind is still present. I also forgot to mention his name in Yi Moon in the manhwa.
There is also a nurse character like Seobi, but she goes by Sujeong instead. She is similar in personality to her show counterpart, but is more willing to talk back to the Crown Prince even when she learns who he is (when they first meet, she doesn’t believe he is who he says he is, thinking him to be a delusional brat)
The story of the outbreak happening at the hospital is almost identical, but they are a lot of differences. Instead of tiger hunter, it is a fellow nurse who feeds the patients human flesh; much like in the show, Sujeong/Seobi is revolted and protests against this action, only to be rebuffed and be told there’s no choice because of the famine. The consumption of the flesh of someone bitten by the living dead converting the consumer, is not present in this version. Basically the fellow nurse who fed human flesh to everyone leaves the hospital, only to return and drop dead, then return as a zombie.
The story itself is basically one of those lone wolf warriors taking care of a child stories. The warrior is an unnamed former general who has lost faith in the throne after the king fled from battle who is expecting to be paid by the Crown Prince for bodyguard services. He has a odd condition that causes him to go blind whenever the sun goes down, which makes it more difficult for him when fighting the ninja assassins and the zombies.
This character seems to have been split into two for the TV series, specifically the Crown Prince’s bodyguard Muyeong and Yeong-shin. Obviously Muyeong’s occupation speaks for itself when it comes to which characteristics the unnamed general he got and they both banter with the princes. As for Yeongshin, both are war veterans who have no faith in the throne. I don’t know if writer Kim Eunhee had this in mind when writing the TV series as this is my speculation than anything else.
The source of the zombie outbreak is left unrevealed but it is implied that the Royal Court has something to do with it. There is no sign of the Resurrection plant and the cold temperature causing the zombies to move is not present. There is a notable moment in regards to the zombification though. A father and daughter pair are killed by the ninja assassins who are after the Crown Prince; after the sun sets, the zombies in their village rise, the two who were killed earlier come back as the living dead. There is nothing to indicate that those two were bitten, but they had been eating human flesh earlier, presumably from the sleeping zombies, making the cause of the outbreak even more vague.
Pretty standard stuff but the artwork is great.
Note: Was planning to upload images of manhwa but the photos my phone took have too big a file size. Will attempt to reduce file size later.
