Not a lot to be said about this one. It was one of those episodes where things are set up and developed for upcoming pushes in the storyline. A good episode, no complaints at all, just nothing big happening.
Except for the pregnancy. Twins! That is a first in all of my time watching historicals; can’t remember anybody having twins. A good twist. Goongyae really is a machine. Two nights with two different women and he gets three kids. But wow Yunhwa sure wasn’t happy--even with the circumstances, isn’t she supposed to be glowing? She looked like she ate some bad clams. And Goongyae, he had said he was going to be more sensitive...he sure didn’t show it there. She’s in obvious distress about something and he barely even noticed, and certainly didn’t care.
Mrs. Kyun-hwon: “Do you know the cause of His Majesty’s family discord? It is the second mother. Father’s favoritism for her has caused him to shun his sons from his first wife. But that will not happen to us. Not as long as I am alive.” She’s been getting a little bitchy lately, although you can understand her frustration. But wow this was a heck of an observation from her, very appropriate and shows her good reason for concern. We’ve seen evidence of this before; she really is a smart person.
A couple of odd choices of music in this episode and the ominous music in that scene was the first one. The music had a whiff of foreboding about it, like Mrs. KH was plotting something horrible. Very much doubt that.
Lord Na: “His majesty is not who we thought he was. He is not the second General Jang Bogo we waited for.” Now cut that out!
“If I have a wish, it is for you to take care of my daughter.” The music was a little too much for the end scene as well. So dramatic it sounded like the kingdom’s future is at stake. But music aside, I’m starting to have a little sympathy for WG in all this. He had his heart broken by everything that happened and it would be only human to have some big-time reluctance to the idea of another commitment. But still, by this point he has to see the reality of it. Goongyae’s been on his case about it and it doesn’t look good for him to be wife-less at his age and in his high position. Too bad they didn’t have therapists back then.
