Another good one. Nothing major but a lot of interesting smaller things. But a few annoying things too.
“Do you forget what led Yangil to his doom? It was his obsessive mistrust. I see that in you as well.” This business about WG being prophecied and foretold as the big conqueror, it isn’t necessary and I wish it weren’t in the story. But this was a terrific scene between those two.
Poor Mihyang. So much stress and grief she’s hallucinating.
Is the Secret Script of Dosun supposed to be a big mystery that everyone knows about? I wonder if this is a mistake. Yes it eventually became a big well-known mystery after WG’s time but at this point I don’t know why anybody else besides WG would know about it since Dosun gave the book to him. Did other people see him writing the book? Hmmm....
Goongyae sure was getting a good laugh over that Park Sulhee incident. Well yeah he’s laughing, he didn’t have to watch the battle scene like we did.
Oh and he sits there in front of the empress and says he didn’t want to marry her. Nice. And come on, why would she be there when all the men are drinking together? She didn’t belong there and it was silly that she was there.
And about that drinking scene: It was too obvious that there was nothing in those cups and they were pretend-drinking. Didn’t like that. At least put some water in them so the actors have to behave like they’re actually drinking something.
“Even the great Tang Dynasty is on the path to downfall after the rebellion of Huang Chao.” In case anybody’s curious about that, here’s more information:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huang_Chao
Kind of a long read but the introduction gives you the essentials.
“You mean I alone became intoxicated? What a dreadful mistake!” Yeah it sure was. Of course he’s the littlest guy in the room so he can’t hold as much liquor as any of the others.
Eunbu: “It was a cruel action in retrospect. Taking away his bride...it still bothers me.” He and Bok Jikyum are going to be two great characters to watch as things develop. As in, how will they react and who will they side with as things turn uglier.
I liked Shikryum’s scouting report. Gathered under the guise of illegal trading--this is a very smart guy.
Wait a minute, why isn’t Jongkahn going on the tour? Goongyae told him he was coming along and that was the last we heard about it. Wow a rare continuity error there.
Hoping we get to see some of the Shilla army in the next episode now that Kyun-hwon is hitting one of their forts. Like I said before, would be nice to get a taste of what’s going on in Shilla.

Invasion of Daeya Fort was unavoidable for Kyun-hwon to gain access to Nakdong River, which provided the most direct route to Shilla. This was an important but untimely battle for Bekjae. As Goongyae’s power grew, Kyun-hwon became anxious to conquer Surabul, the heart of Shilla, before Goongyae could. Kyun-hwon also wanted to test his sons with this war. He was already contemplating his successor. But it could not be an easy battle.Very surprising that Goongyae is talking so freely and casually about succession. Considering how incredibly uptight the subject makes everyone in every kingdom, you’d have thought Jongkahn or someone else would have cautioned him to be careful about this.
