Very little to say about this one. On the whole it was sort of boring. Not a lot of significant stuff happening, and we got some of the usual K-historical cliché scenes.
“A sudden burst of Chi obstructed his breathing.” Dangit we lose Kim Joo Young again. That’s twice in eight episodes. At least he had a good part the second time. Sort of doubt we’ll see him again since this was such a significant part, but fingers crossed.
“The physician knows too much. Make arrangements to avoid any unpleasant rumors.” And there we have it! Suckiest job in the history of the world, proven yet once again. It never fails. Cracked me up.
“They were discussing matters of the government.” Okay sometimes the straight lines are just too easy...But why would the queen ask General Yeong to stand there and lie to everyone when she immediately told everyone the truth right after him? He came off like an idiot trying to explain everything away. He’s probably tickled pink to get out of town and away from her.
The narrated text:
I don’t understand...Those bandits who raided the inn, they’re not only soldiers but officers? And the two head guys we saw with them the next day, they told Goongyae and Jongkhan that their men “acted against orders” but they sure didn’t seem overly bothered by that. I mean, their own men were flat-out robbing people—what the heck? Hopefully we get a better explanation of this in the next episode.
That last scene reminded us that they needed a younger guy to play Goongyae in these early episodes just like they have a kid playing WG. But they did find an older woman who bears a resemblance to Goongyae, at least a little. I faulted the casting when brothers looked nothing alike, so they get full credit for getting it right this time.

The narrated text:
Weeheung. He is the younger brother of King Kyungmoon. Holder of the highest government position, prime minister, his accomplishments include restoration of Hwangyong Pagoda, and compilation of the first songbook “Samdaemok.” After King Kyungmoon’s death, he seized political control and closely assisted his nephews King Jungkang and King Hunkang. Later he became a lover of his own niece, Queen Jinsung, and controlled the government and the court. Queen Jinsung’s love for him was sincere. She was bedridden for a time after Weeheung’s death, and memorialized him with an honorable title, King Haesung. That’s hardly an impressive list of accomplishments, is it.
