Looks like some of Wang Geon's loyal followers meet unfortunate ends in Dawn of the Empire.

See this is what drives me insane with these networks. Absolutely freaking insane.
We keep wondering where so many of these historicals have been hiding. They don't put them online for people to watch...why not? They could make money off of them. Even with adding subs--hire some competent person with a passion for historicals to do them at a reasonable cost. And then put them up on Kocowa--Hey gee look you guys, you built this whole new platform for past drama shows, you can actually use it, don't be scared!--and put it on a modest subscription fee, and you make your money back in no time. And everything after that is profit. But nooooo, they don't do that. Why not? Is something wrong with the conversion? That was my guess--they didn't want to release older analog series on digital platforms.
But now look what we have...Dawn of the Empire streamed online by KBS, officially. So I'm wrong, they can put it online with excellent quality. So what do they do with it? Dump it onto a YouTube marathon for free. AAAAAAAUUGGHH
How can these people not get this? Somebody needs to sit down and talk these network people through the obvious opportunities they're missing. Okay it will never make you a zillion dollars, but if it's even the least bit profitable then why not do it? I just checked the DOE livestream and 3000 people were watching it and the chat was exploding. Obviously Korean-speaking people, but whatever...why aren't they sticking this stuff up someplace on demand?
Especially KBS--they're supposed to have a public-service component to their mission. In fact here's one of their priorities, word for word from their website: "Developing sustainable strategies to lead creation of Korean cultural content and promote values of Korea to the world." Hel-LOOOOO?!?
Rant over. For now.

I agree. And would it hurt KBS to live stream the subbed version?

From what I know of their subscription service before they locked it to Korea, the livestreams encourage viewers to pay for the Sageuk Subscriptions so they can watch on their own pace instead of the livestreams'. It's unfortunate that they've geolocked it though, literally being like 'we don't want your money'.
On an unrelated note, this is actually the first time they've streamed Dawn of the Empire I think. KBS always streams the same three shows over again (TJWG, Dae Jo Young, King Gwanggaeto), so it's a welcome change. (And another unrelated note: networks would benefit so much more from international audiences if they put the option to display subtitle files locally from the media player. I came across that function once on an obscure video site and really enjoyed that.)
