So for lack of a better option, we're finally going to give EWG a try here. It looks like GoodDrama is the only viewing option for it and that isn't an ideal platform, for multiple reasons. But there just aren't many places to find historicals online these days, and the better platforms are only offering junk. So let's try this and see how it goes.
EWG predates this forum so there was never a board or ongoing viewing thread for it. And yes it is a monster--200 episodes and we'll do one a week, so it's going to be a commitment. But it's supposed to be one of the real benchmark series among all of the historicals, so that alone makes it worth trying. Personally I'm very eager to see it--not a big fan of the male lead but the series covers a very interesting historical period, and it won't be full of the fusion-y silliness that we've gotten in so many of the more recent series.
KG will wrap up next week and I'll start the usual final thoughts thread, and we'll start EWG shortly thereafter. I'll post a schedule soon.

I watched this on TV when we still had a station that showed KBS historicals. It is definitely worth watching. But at 200 episodes, it does have its ups and downs. And will require stamina to see it through. There is a whole lot of misery in this one, and it's pretty misogynistic IMO. But that's probably the way the era really was.

Yeah that's one nice thing about watching something this long online. It's a long commitment but at least you can watch it on demand and not be tied to a schedule or a recorder. How did your station show it--did they do two a week like KBS did or did they run it daily?

Yes, they did all of them 2 per week. I remember I started watching Age of Warriors and was very confused for a while by what was going on, because I didn't realize I was watching only half the episodes. Didn't occur to me that there were 2 shows a week.

Age Of Warriors is the benchmark for myself, but that's not around ' EWG is a huge undertaking, probably 4 years, to watch it all, the drama will be 20 years old next year.
I love parts of EWG, but i felt it could have been about 120 eps, instead. Still better then anything around now, KBS rebroadcast it, in 2010 and i caught it then, every time anyone gets frustrated, just look at what's on now, that will cure you.
Its a landmark historical for sure,
Shame Dawn Of The Empire is not around, as that was the sequel to this, and led up to the events in AOW. It would be great to do all 3 back to back, but that would take about 7/8 years.

Maybe by the time we finish with EWG maybe somebody at KBS will have enough brains to start making shows like Dawn available. Dare to dream.
All three would be 452 episodes, so actually closer to nine years. But I'm not going anywhere...been here for twelve so what's another nine, right?

I won't be watching along as it is a very long commitment but I'll try to post anything I know about the time period whenever I can.
As for the male lead, this is the drama that led to him get cast in another KBS historical every 3 years or so. Without this drama, there would be no CSJ as Jang Bogo, Dae Joyoung, or other characters he played.
Just be aware of all the Romance of Three Kingdom references as I've said before.

Thanks truth, that will be very welcome here and much appreciated.
I've never read R3K so anything you can point out that was taken from it, that will be good to know.

Both this , DJY and AOW, are full of R3K references, the 3 sworn brothers story is usually the giveaway, an oath and promises of brotherhood, are the biggest references

Due to it not being official, chances are high you'll notice that the video quality isn't the best, especially during the fight scenes.

1 episode per week for a 200 episode drama... It will probably take about 4 years to finish...
