This prince stuff has just about taken over everything. And now we’ve added the Seokkop’s-lower-class-so-he’s-not-worthy angle. Gee what an original angle for a historical. Ugh. It’s not being badly done, far from it, but the whole storyline just seems to be drifting away into irrelevance. At least we got the Goguryeo war started in this one so maybe that will rescue us.
Ajikii: “Do you think Eoraha would let a blacksmith’s son be his son?” This would be a good time for one of Ko Heung’s “this is why you don’t learn” moments. Has Ajikii forgotten KG’s roots? Duh!
So they have the big ceremony and make Seokkop a prince, but they don’t invite the kid’s parents? Wouldn’t that have occurred to somebody? Something obvious that should have been addressed.
Jin Godo: “You could just give him some land and make him a general.” Thank you sir! Not surprising that nobody answered him, not even KG. The whole thing is awfully farfetched even for a mostly fictional historical. Okay yes he did save the king’s life and the prince’s life...but to make him a prince?
“Who are his parents?” Once again, Yeohwa shows up and things immediately ratchet up a notch and get more interesting. And as usual she outthinks everybody else and leaves them stammering. “His parents must be happy that their son has received such an honor. Why didn’t they attend the ceremony?” HA! She never disappoints.
“Is your name Hwa?” Didn’t see that one coming at all. This whole identity-reveal thing, no it doesn’t have any historical basis but the writers are doing a great job with it. You just never know when some aspect of it is going to jump out of nowhere.
Give Prince Yeogeun credit for being honest about his feelings. Any kid in his situation would want to know his parents’ intentions. That was a good scene.
“He endured all of that torture. Do you still not trust him?” Is that why they tortured him—to see if they can trust him? Hmmm...so apparently the idea was that after all that pain he might have confessed to being some sort of double agent or something? If that’s the case then they should have written the torture scene way differently because it certainly didn’t give that impression at all. Very weird...but we dealt with that last time.
Bratty princess, moaning: “Nobody rmembers Sa Gi any more. I don’t want to forget him.” Oh good grief I hope that’s just the wine talking.
Wow Eul Mahul and Dandan sure are getting a rotten deal out of all this. Now they have to leave their home and his good job and go disappear someplace, and all they did to deserve it was raise the king’s son and make the king sooo happy. Whatever happens to everybody else in this series, it would be real nice to see some sort of happy ending for those two.
The whole beginning of the war was crammed into that quick montage? Wow that sucked. And Bu Gantae sure got a quick sendoff, lousy deal for him.
And more of the spurned Jin Ai, okay we get it, enough already.
Sayu’s subordinate was very brave, questioning his command to send Bu’s body directly to KG. And he was absolutely right. It will just rile up the enemy and won’t serve any constructive purpose. And putting that surrender threat note in Bu’s hand only makes it worse. Bad move by Sayu (but he still is a better character than KG is).
Why did KG make Prince Yeogeun a head strategist instead of Jin Seung? It’s always been Jin and Ajikii, the same two guys and they’ve obviously gotten great results. He did say that Yeogeun does well academically, but still this is a fate-of-the-country war and there’s no clear reason why Jin Seung should be left on the sidelines. That needs explaining because it doesn’t make sense.
So we need a good account of the Goguryeo war in the final seven episodes, and less of the twentysomethings. Please!
