Already talked about this last time but the bullied, manipulated little kid stuff, worst thing in the series so far by a long way. Otherwise this was another pretty good episode.
“You must not trust the Wiryegung ruler. He won’t be your puppy who meekly takes orders from you.” I do like that they haven’t played the Buyeo Jun card yet. We know the crown prince is gonna get screwed over but the how and when is still very much unknown. And has been for a while now. It's just sort of hovering in the background.
One thing that was much better in this one was the subtitling. We got some actual KBS subtitles, so we didn’t have to deal with “pate” and “demise” and “meseems” and all of that. Only problem is they go straight to the historical Korean-language terms for some things and those can be unfamiliar. “Eoraha” for Baekje ruler, for instance, and the military unit names. All in all it’s more than worth the tradeoff; just going to take some getting used to.
Great moment when Prince Yeohwi has to agree to attack Jin Godo. The crown prince’s sword at his throat, you wonder if this changes his thinking any. He’s really in a tough spot. Good piece of writing to put a character into a box like that.
“How large was Baekje when Soseono established it?” Very well written scene. BJ rationalizing his power lust, that’s exactly the kind of stuff you expect him to be thinking. A scene like that adds so much depth to a character. Good work.
Sayu is also turning into a good character. Much more complex than the mustache-twirling evil-laughing bad guy we could have gotten.
The music continues to be better too. Still not great but much improved.
So all in all the series continues to do well. And it’s maintained a different look and feel from the less ancient historicals, as it should.
