Episode 12
This drama really does not disappoint. It just seems to get better and better with each episode.
Prince So is given a commission to go far away from the palace to take care of some business for the King. But really, he is being banished for sticking up for Hae Soo. The goodbye scene with Hae Soo was very sad. She tells him she'll not be waiting for him. He seems to take it with a grain of salt. Second kiss he steals from her - so cute. Her feelings seem to be deepening for him. Indeed how can any girl stay immune to him for too long?
As soon as Prince So is gone, Hae Soo herself is banished from the palace. She is reassigned as a water maid in some other place far away from the palace. Despite Prince Jung's effort, Prince Wook refuses to lift a finger to help her. But that doesn't stop him from going to see her. I'm starting to actively dislike Prince Wook. Okay, so he didn't have much choice in the matter of helping her since he had to protect his family (and perhaps for the greed of the throne), I give him that. But then why go to see her and get her all riled up again? It's like he wants his cake and eat it too. And even if he gains enough power to get her back would she really want to go back to him? It doesn't make sense that he can see her suffer so much without doing anything and the excuse for that is he needs power to get her in the end. No.
There are three proposals of marriage in this episode. 1) Prince Yo proposes to Princess Yeon Hwa, saying he'll divorce his current wife when he becomes King and make Princess YH his queen. She doubts his words. She's not dumb. 2) Princess Yeon Hwa proposes to Prince So. He tells her in no uncertain terms that he has someone else in mind for his wife - go my Prince!! I hate her for trying to take him from Hae Soo but boy, she's got guts. And she has good taste in men. 3) Prince So prosposes to Hae Soo. He says if she marries him he can take her away from the palace. She says no, that he still has lots to accomplish in the palace.
The one thing I don't like about this drama so far is Prince Baek Ah's developing relationship with the sword-dance girl. It somehow rings false with me. Maybe I don't feel any chemistry between them? Don't know. But I don't find their scenes very interesting or believable.
Loved the scene when Prince So comes back from his travels and comes to see Hae Soo as she's hanging out the laundry. Brought tears to my eyes when he sees how thin she's gotten and sees her work-roughened hands. And yet he says she's still pretty as ever. So romantic.
Two notable quotes fom this episode: Prince Wook: "If you take the place of the Crown Prince you're a traitor. But if a traitor destroys a traitor he becomes a hero." Prince So to Prince Wook: "Your uselessness makes me shake with rage." Wow.
And the ending. That was something. Hubby was all triggered cuz he likes Prince Baek Ah the best of all the princes (he can't stand the sword-dance girl though. He thinks she's really ugly).

Episode 13
Okay. So this episode was my least favorite so far. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it. But just not excellent as the previous episodes have been. It was also a little confusing with all the back-stabbings. And some front-stabbings too, I might add.
The King passes away and the Princes Yo, Wook, and Won try to swoop down on the throne but to no avail. They were like three vultures over their father's carcass. Not a pleasant sight. Prince So tries to get to the Crown Prince (who seems to be never in the palace) but thanks to Prince Wook and Princess Yeon Hwa all the roads out of Sangak are blocked. With the help of Woo Hee, Prince Baek Ah leaves Sangak to reach Prince Moo.
Now, we distinctly saw Prince Baek Ah getting stabbed by Woo Hee at the end of last and the beginning of this episode, right? And yet there he was standing tall and healthy as you please. It would've been nice if they had at least shown him getting treated for the wound. Okay, so later we do see that he had sustained some injury but still... I think the main reason I didn't like this episode as much as the others is the scenes with Prince Baek Ah and Woo Hee. Just don't buy their whole relationship.
Hae Soo, who is temporarily back at the palace, finds out from Prince Wook that there's a revolt planned for the next day. Prince Wook tells her it's all for her (yeah, right) and that all she has to do is sit tight. She goes immediately and tells Prince So that Prince Yo is planning to attack Cheondeokjeon. She leaves out Prince Wook's name but Prince So knows already the 8th Prince is involved too.
Just when Prince Yo and Prince Wook are attacking the King's residence, Prince Moo arrives with the royal army. He thanks Prince Wook for sending him the message. Wow! That Prince Wook is something. I have no doubt had Prince Moo not arrived on time he would've put himself or Prince Yo on the throne. And have killed Prince So if he could. And then he has the nerve to be upset that Hae Soo "betrayed" him - hah!
What came as a shock to me is that Hae Soo tells him that if he's ready to leave the palace she was willing to go with him now. What?!?! After all that he's done to you (or correction: after all that he HASN'T done for you!), you're willing to go with him still?? Unbelievable. Unless she was bluffing cuz she knew he wouldn't leave?... Anyway they pretty much part ways here. She says she can't feel the same way about him. She should've said that BEFORE she said she would go off with him.
Prince Moo is made the next King. Prince Yo is hunted down and unfortunately Prince So is the one who ends up killing him. He meets Hae Soo to get comforted by her cuz he's pretty crushed that he killed his own brother. Hae Soo does comfort him by hugging him. And she must realize how wrong she had gotten Prince So and Prince Wook. Here she was worried Prince So would kill Prince Wook all along and yet in reality Prince Wook would gladly have killed Prince So while Prince So promised Soo he would do his best NOT to kill Prince Wook, and now he's suffering deeply for having killed Prince Yo. Ironic.
I really did enjoy this episode - it's just that I had some problems like how Prince Baek Ah recovered so fast from that sword wound, why only Prince So and Prince Wook were fighting when the two armies were facing off, why Soo was still willing to go off with Prince Wook when he had treated her so badly and she knew he would have killed Prince So if he could. Just little things like that bothered me. But still all in all, very good.
Loving Lee Joon Gi. He's the best!!

Happy Birthday Lee Joon Gi oppa! I can't believe he's 35 today - he looks more like 25 in this drama, if that.
Episode 14
Ooooh this was good. So it's been two years since Prince Moo became the king. Prince Wook is doing all he can to get the King to abdicate to him - dream on.
I just loved the scene when Prince So and Hae Soo are sitting by the water, looking at the stars in the sky. Prince So was so cute when he tried to steal a kiss from Soo. He looked like a naughty little boy getting scolded by his mother or something. You notice, though she refuses to let him kiss her, how close she's sitting next to him. And when he lies back on the grass the loving way she looks down at him. Oh she's totally fallen for him, I think.
The king tries to marry his daughter off to gain more support. Out of pity Prince So steps in only to trap himself into marrying the Princess himself. Poor Hae Soo.
Sure enough when next Prince So and Hae Soo meet he can't say what he had planned to say (asking her again to marry him?) I guess that's how it is when you're dating a Prince, even if you're mad at him you can't show it. Hae Soo was definitely ticked off at Prince So for acting so casual with her when he was the one who made such a fuss about meeting at the assigned place. And to say that he forgot what that was he wanted to say before.
The boat scene was sweet. So funny when he rocked the boat to scare her. So cute when she says can't you go faster, that when you're on a boat you should feel some breeze and his response is, "You wanna row?" I so laughed. Typical dating banter.
When she says she's trying to understand how it would feel to deny what you desire and how she's happy he doesn't have to do that anymore she means living at the palace. But I wonder if she means herself also. Is that her subtle way of saying she will no longer deny herself to him? That's how I heard it.
Later when Hae Soo finds out that Prince So is to marry the Princess, she seems devastated. So we know how she really feels about him. That was sad. He tells her he tried to avoid the marriage but that was the only way to save the princess and to protect the king. I really hated Prince Wook when he says, "I hope some poor maiden isn't crying over losing such a great husband material." Jerk! If he truly loved her he'd be worried for her.
Yay! Prince So and Hae Soo pretty much confess their feelings for each other. I was so happy for Prince So when Hae Soo kisses him. Finally. The poor guy waited long enough for her to return his feelings for her. That scene was so romantic. Loved when she says, "From now on, don't ever forget it." (Referring to when he said he forgot what he had planned to say to her - which was that he loved her.) Very sweet.
I love how whenever there's a scene of Prince So and Hae Soo together, the next scene is of Prince Wook sitting alone, looking gloomy. Really emphasizes all that he lost when he turned his back on her.
What?? Prince Yo didn't die??? How'd he survive the sword stabs AND the drop from the cliff??? Anyway, he comes back with a vengence and attacks the palace and pretty much kills off the king without much struggle. And at the end of the episode he's got Prince So where he wants him cuz of Hae Soo. Wow.
Very sad and exciting at the same time.

You have caught up with me, so I guess I have to start watching again..... I really don't know how I feel about all that is going on. I am sure you are thrilled with all that has happened between Prince So and Hae Soo-- but I still feel sorry for Prince Wook, sometimes he seems so lonely and devastated by what is going on in his life. I am torn between wanting to know what happens next and dreading it at the same time-- guess that is a sign of a truely great drama. Hate to see this end. So far the only thing I have not liked in this drama is Prince Yo coming back-- if you are gonna have the guy come back at least you could make it seem possible, falling off that cliff and surving? Yeah, hard to beleive. At least he doesn't look as evil as he did before-- not the same eye make-up! Loved the scene with Prince So and Hae Soo in the boat, so wished I could draw better,so I could pause the scene and try to sketch it--it was touching and beautiful Liked the girl who plays the King's daughter, she did a really good job in her scenes (keep on changing those avatars, Jewel-- love them!)

Oh no, I didn't realize you were waiting for me to catch up to you. If I'd known I would've pushed Hubby a little harder. He is such a slow-poke. But I was actually waiting for you to respond to my write-ups for episodes 12, 13, and 14. Got nothing to say about them? Okay then I'll go on to 15. We saw that one already but haven't written it up yet. Will do tomorrow. Gotta go beddie-bye now. Tired.

No worries- I watched them awhile ago, and didn't have time to rewatch them and make comments. I think I am so upset with the way Prince Wook is turning out that I am not enjoying this as much as I did at the begining-- I don't know why, but I just can't wrap my head (or should I say heart?!?) around him being a bad guy. I think I always knew this was not gonna be an "all happy" ending-- but it still tough to watch.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time accepting Prince Wook as a bad guy. Hubby feels the same as you. But he's really happy Prince Yo is back. When he went over the cliff Hubby was like, "No! Who's gonna be the bad guy now? Maybe he'll come back." I hate it when he says things like that and it happens cuz then he gloats about it. On the other hand, I'm having a grand ole time hating Prince Wook. Why do bad guys always have to have too much eye makeup??
Episode 15
Do you notice how Hae Soo closes her eyes when Prince Yo gives Prince So the ultimatum to choose between her and the dead king? Almost as if she's sure Prince So will choose the dead king and let her be killed... no, never! This scene brings back memory of the earlier episode when the assassin has a sword at her throat and Prince So says, "kill her, just kill her." I guess he feels slightly different now, huh?
Anyway, so now Prince Yo becomes the emperor, thanks to Prince So. And Prince Wook. He's the one who told Prince Yo to use Hae Soo as bait to control Prince So. Nice, Prince Wook - so that's how you show your love for Hae Soo, huh? So not cool.
Now i wanna ask this question: why is Prince Baek Ah considered the handsomest Prince of all of them? Of course Prince So is considered damaged goods cuz of his scar otherwise he'd be the best looking of the bunch, but why Prince Baek Ah? Isn't Prince Jung much cuter than Prince Baek Ah? I actually don't find him cute at all. Even Prince Eun is cuter I think. Anyway.
I loved the way Prince Yo shut his mother up when she started advising him. Ha! That was sweet. And loved when Prince Yo kinda complained that Prince So took pity on hijm when he went to kill him at the last moment and Prince So says, "If you regret that moment, I can send you off now." That was so funny.
Ji Mong was all confused cuz he didn't know how about Prince Yo ascended the throne since he never saw that in the stars, he says. But wasn't he RIGHT THERE when Prince So was threatened with Hae Soo's life which forced him to acknowledge Prince Yo as the next emperor?? What's he talking about??
Princess Yeon Hwa rejected by Prince So and now she gets rejected by Yo too. Sweet. My favorite quote: when Prince So says referring to Hae Soo, "I am nothing without her." Be still my heart.
Prince Eun and the wife were so cute at the bathing place. So sweet. I started crying cuz I knew it wasn't gonna end well for them. Why do they make us love the characters when they're gonna be killed off?? Well there's still a slim chance it'll end well for them tho I really doubt it.
The ending was so sad. But I loved Prince Eun more for going with his wife. So sad.

I have to say that I am sooo glad to hear Hubby is in my corner to cheer for Prince Wook! Be careful, Jewel-- we may just have to gang up on you! Although I understand the concept- it is such a shame that when you are King you have to consider your siblings your enemies because they might want to steal the crown-- would it not be better if they all worked to together to make a better Kingdom? When watching this episode, I wondered if part of the reason Prince Wook acts the way he does is to protect Hae Soo--after all he was the one to suggest that Prince Yoo use her as a pawn to keep Prince So in line. If she stays "valuable" to Prince Yoo she will be safe. I think Prince Wook is trying to so hard to keep his family and Hae Soo safe that he doesn't care at all how that happens. Did you ever have a day when you just go along with everything because you are either just too tired of "fighting" or just feel it just isn't worth it? I know I have had those kinda days. I agree-- when Prince Yo put his mother in her place it was great, but it make me shiver with fear-- she was so wicked that when he shut her up, I thought "Oh, no here comes real trouble!" I was surprised when Yo told Prince So how he held back when he stabbed him-- after all with the scenes that Hae Soo was seeing of the future with Prince So, it was kinda applied that he was really cruel-- cruel enough to stab his brother to death-- so why would he hold back? Maybe he hadn't realized he really wants/needs to be King? The whole scene with Prince Eun and his wife was precious-- they were so shy together! The little washcloth figures were so cute and the racing of the boats just great-- it was a wonderful way to show that they were really begining to fall more in love with each other. It was sad, but it was good to see Prince Eun go with his wife at the end of the episode-- after all he was really the immature, younger prince early in the drama and this was a great way to show how much he has grown and matured-- remember how much he protested when he was told he was getting married? It's just sad because you know something was gonna go wrong really soon......Well, at least one Prince shows signs of being a "real" prince by standing by his wife... I wish I could say I am looking forward to the next episode, but I am not so sure.....

Episode 16
Wow, this episode was wonderful. Of course not the part where Prince Eun and his wife dies. That was so sad, and I hated Prince Yo so much. But what really upset me is that Prince So had to end up helping Prince Eun meet his death so he could go to the other world with his poor wife. I was so sad that that job ended up being Prince So's. And when he suffered so much when he thought he killed Prince Yo too. And then what really pissed me off was that Prince Jung was angry with Prince So for "killing" Prince Eun when he was right there to see that Prince So did his best to save Prince Eun. What the heck?! When Prince Jung said he was going to kill "him" at first I thought he meant the now Emperor Yo. But then he says he's gonna kill Wang So - I was so mad!
Boy was Soon Deok wrong when she said they wouldn't harm her because of her father. Yeah, no. The Grand General crying over his daughter was really moving. Could've been more moving if it weren't for his disgusting teeth. Really? You can't rinse your mouth at least after a meal??
That Princess Yeon Hwa was unbelievable when she's telling Prince So that when Prince Eun was little he used to make those animal figures with towels. She says all this with a smile on her face, knowing she had surely sent him to his death by telling Yo where he was. She is such a cold-hearted witch.
Prince So rejects Hae Soo, saying her distrust brought on the tragic deaths but we all know he's lying just like she does. He's doing this to protect her. He still loves her as he shows by throwing himself at her to protect her from the arrow Yo shoots at her. They reconciliate at the end of the episode, thank heavens. I don't know how long I would've lasted if Prince So continued to reject Hae Soo. That scene was really beautiful.
But this is what worries me - why does Prince So have so much eye makeup on all of sudden? From past experience in this drama whenever someone's eye makeup get heavier they become bad. No!!! And to make me more scared he admits to Hae Soo that he does want the throne!! Ahhhh!!!

Yes, this episode was wonderful! I re-watched it today and still jumped when the arrow was shot at Prince Eun. He may have been the youngest Prince, but he has been the only one to act like a true human-- I was hoping when he died he would have reached out enough to hold his wife's hand one more time. I was thinking about you when Prince So killed Eun and then let out that maniacal laugh--I thought for sure he was going to lose it completly but then I thought maybe it was just a release of his emotions after killing his brother. His face was so scary. I keep thinking.. Prince Wook is doing what he thinks is right to keep his mom and sister safe (although I don't know why, they are not very nice and his sister is as scary as Prince Yo), Prince So is doing what he needs to do to keep Hae Soo safe-- but why can't they just get that King off his throne? I keep thinking about those visions that Hae Soo had about Prince So-- do you think he really will become that cruel to kill off his brothers or do you think he is killing them for somewhat justifiable reasons and not like Yo who is doing it to remove what his thinks are threats against his throne? Favorite phrase? I will become a dog that bites it's owner and takes over the owner's home.... When they were discussing So's failure at castle building, I wanted to scream at Hae Soo "Don't go near that guy"!, when Yo grabs her wrist and tells So "just squeeze, squeeze, and squeeze them out"-- just like he is doing to Hae Soo to get So to obey. I think what I like best about this drama is the slight ways they show big things-- like Hae So having her wrist squeezed, seeing Wook's hands shake when he hears of Eun's death, when Wook reaches out to stop the prince from interferring with Yo hurting Hae Soo, Baek Ah placing Eun's broken arrows at Yo's feet.....so much is conveyed in such small ways. I did not like the way Prince Won eggs Yo on about Prince So and Hae Soo's relantionship-- Why does he do that??? It is one thing to be on one's best behavior around Yo to stay alive-- but to put your brother in harms way was just unbeleivable. Someone needs to break Prince Yo's bow and arrows!!!! Is there something really wrong with Prince Yo-- I know he is evil, but when he was hearing voices and banging on the drum and ringing the bell, it sounded like he was insane or that someone was poisoning him, What do you think will happen when Prince So becomes King? Do you think he will be able to save his brothers? I still holding out hope that Prince Wook will tell his mother and sister to take a flying leap and become a brother that can help Prince So. (Yeah, you know I had to end on a note about Wook.... )

I was thinking about you when Prince So killed Eun Prince So DID NOT KILL Prince Eun - Prince Eun already had two arrows stuck in him. Prince So just helped him along so he wouldn't suffer too long and so that he would "catch up" with his wife in their travel to the after life. (I didn't even finish reading your post before responding to this cuz I had to clarify this so badly!!!!!!!)
