"No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't win the master's trust. But you earned it overnight, and took my position. I despised you." That's the best reason ever for somebody who betrayed somebody else in a historical. It really was ridiculous how Sul put his entire business's fate in JB's hands almost immediately. Certainly doesn't excuse the horrible thing the guy did but you can certainly understand what drove him to it. And JB's shockingly lenient treatment of him showed he understands it as well. And Yon said that very thing explicitly, didn't he, later in the episode, about people being jealous of them.
"If you can't save his life, you'll lose yours." Yet again, rule #1 of historical dramas: being a physician SUCKS.
Should Jung-hwa really be walking around city streets alone after dark?
So finally we got a calm, intelligent, adult conversation between JB and Jung-hwa. And a hug at that. What a relief! Maybe things will start moving forward now and the repetitive silliness will end. But now what's Jung-hwa going to do? If JB means so much to her then she really should quit her job. It was surprising that they left things unresolved because she has decisions to make.
How did Sul get to be Grand Chief again? Did I miss something? Okay, it could have defaulted back to him after Yi fled...but that should have been explained.
JB didn't understand why Sul is giving salt to the merchant-job applicants? Once again, not showing any aptitude for business. It's a good thing Sul gave him all that homework. Okay, let's see...find three items that will bring in profit...well, hair volumizer is the obvious #1...books on relationship counseling, geez look at the unmet need, there's your #2...hmm, #3 is a toughie...maybe some antidepressant meds?...No wait, seasick pills! Think of what the rich daughter would have paid for a bottle of those bad boys on that boat. Cha-ching!
JB running off to chase YM at the end...Was YM being a decoy? He got himself spotted so easily...too easily. And we saw JB run off once before in a similar situation. I hope this isn't another case of Even Monkeys Learn.
Okay, YM single-handedly fighting off thirty soldiers armed with spears and swords, that is the single dumbest thing we've seen in the series so far.
Overall, though, this was definitely one of the better episodes. There was less silliness, less repetition, and the storyline moved forward much more for a single episode than we've seen previously. So that's a welcome development.
