The first part of this episode, I just had no appetite for it because it was the continuation of the contest set up with the absurd premises in the previous episode. And it's hard to have sympathy for Sul's group losing because the rich daughter got seasick. She had no business going on a sea voyage if there were any question about her seaworthiness. None.
It did surprise me that they lost, though--they had a five-day advantage, and then a little more because of favorable winds. Seemed like there was ample time to drop the daughter off at the nearest coastal port and then head on. It would have been nice if the writing had explained how this unfolded. We didn't see anything of the actual voyage after GB ordered the detour. Did they just sit there wherever they landed and wait for her to recover?
Why is YM buying jewelry for Jung-hwa? With the horrible secret he has about the raid on Chunghae, he knows he has no chance with her...or maybe this is him hoping against hope that he can charm her past that? Hmmm...
...But please you three, stop it with all of the staring and brooding. Okay, please? Enough already. Sheesh, this is all so drawn-out, talk about an eternal triangle...And more of Jung-hwa with the No I won't go talk to him and then the Oh boo-hoo I've lost him...It's gotten to the point where it's sucking energy from the rest of the story. Nothing wrong with a romantic element in a historical--a good one can add a lot to a series--but this one is getting to the point where you start to cringe when the storyline goes there.
"You must wipe your heart clean of your past as a slave, your grudge against Madam Jami, and your father's death....Amass great wealth and give it away generously." Seemed almost like a bit of Christian preaching, that scene...whatever, it was a good explanation for Sul giving GB a new name.
I sure perked up as soon as I heard "Tibet." So many beautiful location shots in the series so far, hope we get some of Tibet.
Once again, the trading party seemed smaller than expected. Doesn't it? Maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe KBS just went cheapo on the camel budget. Or the per-hump quantity discount got rescinded maybe.
So they can't trade for cinnabar. So what? Okay, have to change plans but there are other things to trade. But if they're bound and determined, looks like Master Jo is gonna have to fix it this time. Maybe he can redeem himself for giving that "secret" information to Yi.
The eunuch who serves Lady Chabi...anybody know who Lady Chabi is? There was a prominent Lady Chabi in the Yuan Dynasty but that was hundreds of years later. Presumably we'll see more of this eunuch, at least when he comes back for his money. Just hoped to get some explanation about his mistress now. Couldn't find anything online.
