Ugh...borrr--ring, borrr-ring....big turnaround from the previous episode. I mean, fair enough they're ramping up the romance angle which presumably will go on for a while...but the storyline around it was so slow-moving in this one. A big yawner.
Two scenes I liked: When Yi asked Madam Jami to be paid in slaves and we waited for her answer, you really didn't know which direction things would go. It was a surprising request, and actually this gets into the real history of the period so hooray for that. Also it was interesting when the officials were arguing about taxing versus giving people relief (probably not interesting to most viewers but again, bigger-picture stuff about the real history).
The nighttime fight sequence with Yeom Moon was awful. He picks up a guy by the throat with one arm and throws him? And that's after jumping off a ten-foot roof and landing softly. Then afterwards he practically runs up the side of a building and soars away and disappears. Gee it's too bad the other guy didn't have any kryptonite.
And not to keep being a wet blanket, but two other things: The amount of grain that the army unit was transporting, it was ridiculously small. That's supposed to be a tax payment for an entire region. That was awful, real amateurish. And then, would Madam Jami's army really give an inner-retinue personal-guard post to newbies? Especially former slaves? Sheesh.
I will say, there was some very nice music in the scene with Hung-hwa sitting by herself near the end. Traditional instruments, no electric bass or drum kit, it fit perfectly, how about that. And we made it past 57 minutes without the cheesy pop. Oh so close....
p.s. Now we understand better why the sister doesn't want to help the brother--he's a complete idiot. We sort of knew, but now we really know how much.
