So you're someone who works for KBS? Well this is a wonderful surprise; very glad to have you here. Not sure if you're familiar with this forum, but we'll be 13 years old on May 7 and have been featuring dozens and dozens of English-subtitled Korean dramas over the years.
We used to have much more activity here but after KBS walked away from the Chicago market in 2009 we had nothing to watch and so most of our members drifted away. Now that we have KBS back we're hoping to gradually build back up again.
We're very grateful for getting a program schedule in English on your new website. You may have noticed that I put a link to the KBC website right on our main page so it's easily found by anyone who visits here. The one problem that we ran into was not having the dates on the schedule, so that we know if the schedule is for the current week or a previous week. If there's any way the dates could be added, that would help your viewers a lot.
Anyway, again welcome and thank you very much for joining. If you want to post information about any other shows that KBS is airing, by all means feel free to start new threads for them in the KBS Chicago board.

Hello ajk,
Thank you very much for the warm welcoming! My name is Jon. Yes, I am working in KBC. I am in charge of marketing and advertising coordination in KBC Television Network.
I heard about this great forum, and I was trying to connect with the head of the forum, Dr. Albert, by email although his email is no longer working.
I saw your posting of the link to our schedule, thank you.
As far as the scheduling goes, I am deeply as frustrated as you are. This should not happen, this should not even mentioned by our viewers. I will try to keep the schedule up to date and cause no more trouble.
I am hoping to see increased user activities in this forum as well, and I would love to give as much as information I can to boost the energy in the activities.
As KBC is broadcasting both brand new(not to mention they are all subtitled)/and recently-aired-reruns, I will try to give you the hot information not only about the most popular dramas in Korea right now, but what was as well to keep you guys updated.
Thank you again!

Huh. First, the creator of a Yi Soon Shin comic book series was here, now this. Granted, that person was an independent comic writer. Never expected a staff member of a television network make an account.

Hi Mr. Wang,
I am so surprised the creator of Yi Soon Shin is the member of this forum. I just searched his Facebook, and his company is located in IL? I am so excited. I am going to talk to news team tomorrow about this and to push forward planning on interviewing with him. Mr. Wang thank you again!

Some people have 'Wang(King)' as their last name. So I automatically thought it was your name, sorry about that! I like how you guys have matching profile pictures along with the status title.

Hi, Jon--I'm Albert; you were using the e-mail address from the job I recently left, and they don't forward messages. (I'll send you a private message with the email you can contact me at for now.) But you found the right person. I'm the one who reached out to Olivia Yu.
Actually I'm not the head of the forum but I'm the one moderator who's been most active lately. The person who created the forum has moved on to other things and is here only occasionally. We have a few other moderators here besides myself. The most active person ever in the forum is Bo ("TheBo") but she's been busy with a job change herself and hasn't been able to be here for a while. The other moderator who stops in pretty frequently is knov1; he's been posting a lot of good information about K-pop, and he's been here for a long time so he knows a lot about K-dramas in general. Me, I pretty much stick to the historical dramas. Like I said, things are pretty quiet right now so the little group of us that likes historicals, we're generating most of the activity here.
Thanks for your interest in the schedule. Ms. Yu told me the station gets lots of calls from English-only viewers so I'm sure it will benefit the station if the schedule page can be worked out. But yeah these things take time, we all understand.
The "Wang" thing, people are given a rank based on how many posts they've made here. You're a "New Addict" as you can see. Then there's "Junior Addict," "Senior Addict," "Addict Graduate" and then at 500 posts "Wang," which is the highest rank. It's always been like that since the forum was started, which was a long time before I got here. I tried to convince people to tweak it once (because there's only one king), and boy did people get prickly about it...so I haven't pushed it.
Anyway, I'm glad KBC has someone working on marketing and promotion because it sure seems like there's a lot of untapped potential out there. I wish you lots of success and will do anything here that will help you out.
p.s. sageuk's avatar photo is the actor who played Jeong Dojeon in the fantastic KBS series from two years ago. Mine is a portrait of Yi Soon Shin.

Hello and welcome to the board KBC. The Chicago K-Drama Fan Club was much more active prior to the digital transition. I think a KBC presence here is a good thing and might help viewers find their way back to the board.
All my Korean tv viewing is done via internet these days. I've tried everything I can think of (different antennas, moving tv around, new tv, etc) but can't get 13.2.

Firstly, Thank you very much Dr. Albert for detailed and thoughtful explanation and response.
If I may, could you be able to tell me the age range of this forum? We are planning on something that can involve Chicago drama fans, possibly networking and entertaining. It would help me a lot to plan this through.
If there is any thing that you want to see on the tv, interview of specific person or documentaries, and etc., what would that be?
What kind of information are you seeking the most? KPOPs? K Dramas? If it is the dramas, is everyone interested in historical dramas?
And thank you Knov1, it is so unfortunate that you are not getting strong enough signal at your location.
If any questions, please feel free to ask me~!
Jon

Just ajk is fine, Jon, I don't wave that PhD stuff around except at work where I have to. lol
Age range, well I don't think we have very many younger people here at the moment. In fact, I hate to admit it but we don't have a lot of local people here right now either. So I don't know how much this forum can help your efforts as far as local promotion. I wish that weren't the case, and I hope we get things turned around here eventually...but like I said, the forum took a huge hit when KBS bailed on Chicago and things haven't really bounced back yet. We'll do anything you ask, though; glad to help.
From reading about DramaFever's growth I know that there's a huge pool of young adults watching contemporary K-dramas but we just have never caught any of that audience. Maybe we will eventually, especially if KBS gets some big hits that air on your channel. (The forum grew explosively, almost instantly, when Dae Jang Geum started airing in 2003, so all it takes is one series.)
Those of us who are still here, it's kind of a mixture. Some like contemporary dramas; we have a few K-pop fans, and a few who prefer historicals.
I can tell you one thing about what people would like to see. Every so often someone shows up here out of frustration because they want to see one of the past historicals that KBS hasn't made available to any of the DramaFever-type sites. Immortal Yi Soon-Shin from 2005, Great King Sejong from 2007, Age of Warriors from 2004, people are looking for those series, and even some of the older series like Tears of the Dragon from 1996 and Emperor Wang Guhn from 2000. However, the people looking for them tend to be from all over the map so I don't know if those series would do well for you even if you were able to get them. Personally I'd be jumping up and down at the chance to see TOD or EWG, but it's hard to say whether or not anybody else would watch them.
As far as holding an event of some kind, I'm not sure if you're aware of this but the WIN Media people held an event for K-Drama fans a few years ago at their Arlington Heights headquarters. It was surprisingly well attended and very much appreciated by everyone who was there. I don't know if the Baes have any kind of relationship or contact with WIN but if you were to approach them, there might be a lot of interest in co-hosting an event. The people who attended the first one, nobody was an MBC person or a KBS person, just all K-drama fans.
Anyway, keep us posted here and we'll gladly support your work.

Thank you ajk for the thoughtful response. I am surprised that a lot of people here are not local. However if WIN Media had a fare amount of people to their event, I am thinking there is still a hope that many local people are still interested in Korean media contents.
About the mentioned older dramas, I will talk to Mr. Bae about it, and see if we can make re-run happen.
Thank you again ajk for the response, I will try to keep you updated with as much as information.
