Episode 6 got a 12.2% rating, which has officially beaten Jingbirok's highest rating. Shame since I consider Jingbirok to be a much better drama.

KBS World's official Youtube channel has the first full episode online. Depending on whethere they will continue this or not, should come in handy for ajk in case he misses anything. youtu.be/TOqMGpiR8RQWhere was that courtesy when JDJ and JB were airing KBS WOrld? Song Ilgook's popularity must be playing a part as truth theorized.

Well thank you VERY much sageuk for spotting that. That's a huge help for a couple of reasons. One, like you said, I can go back in case I miss anything...and two, maybe what they're posting is uncut. The shows we get tend to be edited for time, which can be aggravating. When the broadcasts start here I'll figure that out.
BTW I have a message into the KBC/channel 13.2 people, asking for a start date for the broadcast. I'll post an answer as soon as I get it.

The actor that plays Sejong is, I must admit, much more at ease and less stiff here than in his own series from 08. Maybe it's his maturity as an actor or the direction.

So I had an extra hour tonight and I peeked in on the first episode. I won't say anything about it until it airs on Chicago broadcast TV...but I will say that it's going to be difficult to make a character roster. The character names that flash on the screen in Hangul, they're not being subbed. I'll do my best but I'm going to need some help from you guys at times.

Wow. I was not ready for this to be aired yet! I stumbled across what I am guessing is Episode One tonight here in Los Angeles. It is airing one hour later than normal, it starts at 10:30 PM. Something called "all About My Mom " is in the usual KHD time slot. Just checked and the 10:30 slot is booked for this on Sunday too.
Not sure what episode it was, ends with a young boy being given a copy of a book by Jang Youngsil's father. Bangwon still looked fairly young, so I'm hoping this was only episode one. I only saw about the last five minutes.

Interesting casting... a good actor, but too bad they couldn't bring back Park Sang Min to reprise his role in GKS (since the rest of the royal family did)....Park did a great job with a complex character. Same for the actor who played Jo Malseng (what a rat that guy was - great acting!) Hwang Hee is cast about as old as he was in GKS, as I recall. And wasn't there a similar scene in GKS where an eclipse forecast is screwed up and it comes too late? This would ultimately lead to Sejong ordering Joseon's own astronomical program, independent of Ming....

When I was talking about Hwang Hee's age, I was talking about the actor's age in Episode 1. His age is not a problem in the later episodes.

Yes mikey, that was the first episode. I never got any information from the Chicago station about when it's starting here for me, so I'm just going to go ahead this week and start posting episode threads. The first two episodes are on YouTube now so I'll consider them fair game.
There was an eclipse scene in GKS; my summary of episode 49 describes it. But not the same eclipse. That one was an eclipse early in Sejong's rule.

Yim Dongjin (Yun Dusu in KBS Jingbirok) has been cast as Zhou Taijiang, a fictional Chinese character.
Park Gyuri (former member of idol girl band KARA) has been cast as Zhou Fuling, the daughter of Zhou Taijiang.
Both are fictional characters.
I'm not sure if the romanizations are correct for these characters. The original description says Ju Taegang and Ju Buryeong in Korean, and I just typed in the names on Google translate to find out how it's pronounced in Chinese.

Saw ep 2, it is odd to see the kinder, gentler Taejong. In GKS he was a pretty cold-blooded, ruthless killer who only admitted his bloody reign at the end to Sejong.
Otherwise, the production values look really good, and the show is well lit and filmed.

Jang Gwang(the voice actor of Timon in the Korean dub version of Lion King) has been cast as Jo Gwang.
Jo Sang-Gu(Maeda Toshiie in KBS Jingbirok) has been cast as Byeon Daechi.
Both are fictional characters.

This drama has just been sold to China, Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong for huge amount of money.
None of these countries cared when Jeong Dojeon and Jingbirok were airing, but everyone wants to buy this drama all thanks to Song Il Gook.
Too bad.

Okay, yet another chance for me to display my utter cluelessness...but I don't get it. What's so great about the guy? Keeping in mind I've never seen him before in a series. He's doing a decent job in this one, actually doing pretty well I think--not overacting it, and certainly better than the guy who played JYS in GKS (I didn't care for him at all). But it's nothing extraordinary. What's the big deal?
