I just remembered. Have the Japanese been collecting ears and noses yet in this drama? That doesn't happen until 1597. The drama is only on 1593 right now.

I think the show should have focused more on the battles between 1957-58 and less on the whole Song Yingchang and Shen Weijing story. I'm also kind of disappointed how Sayaka just disappeared after he helped out Gwak Jaeu, because he does much more than that during the war such as defeating Kato Kiyomasa's 1st unit during the 2nd Battle of Ulsan Fortress.

I was shocked about how they pretty much skipped the second Invasion Truth , yet spent 17 episodes on Ming being sneaky and Gwanghae falling in and out of favor with his father . They also skipped many significant historical events.
The last 4 episodes seemed rushed or badly edited .

^Sounds like the writers were hoping it would be extended but that plan didn't go to well.

The drama is also supposed to be based on Ryu Seongryong's book "Jingbirok," which mostly focuses on the early part of the war and the whole situation with Ming.

Thanks Truth that explains it .
I was surprised they passed over the execution of Hidetsugu's concubines and children (or did i miss something ?), because that is such a famous incident along with the earlier execution of the tea master Rikyu. These two executions were really damaging to Hideyoshi's popularity along with the Imjin War. But than again the drama is about Joseon not Japan.
I can see why the battle of Myeongnyang was passed over pretty much given the recent film, and it would have been seen as looking for ratings to show both Yi's last two major battles.
I am really looking forward to Jang Young Sil .

I have a general question that I wasn't sure where to ask it, but since it's historical, I'll put it here:
In the KHDs I've seen in the past, when a King sends forth his army to go to war, there is usually a ritual/ceremony where the Commanding General and his field commanders are assembled, and a scribe reads a royal proclamation about going to war, etc. The King then gives the commander a Battle Sword to carry forth. I've seen this type of scene so many times, it struck me as odd we never saw it here...was this ceremony dropped in Joseon, or just not important enough to the storyline to include? Anyone have a guess?
:45 mins to the last episode here in LA.

I can't believe it's over, I'll miss the drama so much, sometimes I felt disappointed (I was so excited about the Battle of Chilchonryang and Noryang for instance) but this was based on the Jingbirok, thus the drama was mostly about politics and palace stuff so it's ok. Still bother me that the last episodes seemed rushed though, I was expecting more. Episode 13 is still the best for me. I just checked today's schedule and I see Chuno's first episode in Jingbirok's time slot, I don't like that drama but I'm happy because this could be the "historical hour" on KBS

I don’t remember if the show covers this, but Shen Weijing, the Ming official who tried diplomacy with Japan to get them to withdraw, was executed for the failure of the negotiations between Ming and Japan prior to Hideyoshi’s second invasion. When the war restarted on 1597, Shen Weijing was arrested and imprisoned until he was beheaded on 1599.
Apparently he insisted that the negotiations were a success and that everything was an misunderstanding.

Shen did appear in the series but that part of the story we did not get. Why didn't he just blame it on Japan? I guess chalk it up to natural selection.

I did say Shen insisted it was all a misunderstanding.
My understanding of the situation was that the Wanli emperor felt he was deceived. Shen said he would get the Japanese to withdraw and end the war. Regardless of how it happened, the job was a failure.
In addition, a fellow envoy lied that Hideyoshi accepted the emperor’s peace terms and that he accepted his title as King of Japan. Once Seonjo requested Ming assistance again, the lie was exposed and Shen was blamed for it. The fact Shen claimed the negotiations were a success even before he was thrown under the bus (or cart) did not help his case.

Yeah I meant in the sense of, Those guys are untrustworthy SOBs who screwed us over, it was deliberate sabotage, like that. Misunderstanding, I just interpret that more mildly, like both parties were at fault at least a little.
