Kim Sang Joong(Emperor Gwangjong in Dawn of Empire) has been cast as Ryu Seong Ryong in Book of Corrections according to rumor. I always like him, he's got quite the resume and he's a versatile actor. He's about 50, do you think his age will be appropriate to the character at the historical time of the drama?

Ryu Seong Ryong was 50 when the Imjin War started, so I would say yes.

Well so far we got an actor replaying a role he played. I'd like Kim Myung-min back, though that's just wishful thinking on my part. I'll give whover is playing the admiral a chance.

Oh I'm not sure I like this news at all. I hope this doesn't turn into an attempt to cash in on IYSS's popularity and semi-re-create it. I loved IYSS as much as anybody but this series should have its own identity and tell its own story with its own cast.

Wouldn't be the first time they brought back someone to play the same role. Queen Wonhyeong?
I'm reading the manga version of Nobunaga's Chef. I'm quite liking it. I like how Nobunaga can be this leader that you believe is destined for great things, and yet he could throw you away like a used item; being near him is a potential time bomb.

I had no problem with bringing Wonhyeong back because it was a continuation...same character at a later point in history. Two different stories. So it was very appropriate. This will be retelling the same story, at least as far as Kato. That's why I worry they're going to try to piggyback off of IYSS's success rather than be bold and original. We'll see.

sageuk, I also think it's fine. It's different in Book. I'm afraid they will make it like a semi-duplicate of IYSS. They focus on the war progress as they bring Kato back that means the storyline is not really distinguished from IYSS. Anyway, if they give it some efforts, insights and clever filming techniques like they did in Jeong Dojeon, this drama will be a good one.

Kato Kiyomasa was a young man not an older man .
One thing IYSS got totally wrong was that Kato and Konishi were the main leaders ,these two hated each other and competed to see who could reach Ming first . Konishi was christian and his banners bore the cross of St George and Kato was a follower of Nichiren ,this was thought to be the route of the hatred .
Hideyoshi had ordered strict instructions to wage a war of hearts and minds which these two turned to fire and sword instead ,they also lied about their progress and sent phony reports to Hideyoshi (this was in IYSS)and were getting away with it until Kuroda Kanbei and Ishida Mitsunari showed up and busted them ,by that time the damage to Joseon had been done . (By contrast the second invasion was the more horrific of the two as different players entered the scene and Hideyoshi lifted the hearts and minds order as courtiers from Joseon insulted him )
Shimazu Yoshihiro also by passed those two and fought and defeated the Ming army at the border .
I just hope we get a more accurate depiction this time .Much as i love IYSS the whole story of this conflict from both sides has yet to be depicted .

So in regards to the upcoming Book of Corrections, the writer of this drama is Baek Woon Cheol, who wrote Mighty Chilwoo, which I never saw, but sounded like a cliche Robin Hood story. I haven't seen any of this guy's works, so should I be worried?

Anyone seen Mighty Chilwoo? Depending on the answer, there may or may not be worries about the upcoming Imjin War drama.

I have not seen Mighty Chilwoo, sageuk, but I thought it was a Korean TV show, not Chinese HungV. Or am I misunderstanding this whole conversation? Imagine that happening.
So, my question to sageuk is, are you saying the new drama is comparable to M.C.? Does it have the same writer or director or something?

I mean it has the same style as Chinese wuxia, not Chinese originate The writer of the upcoming historical "Book of Correction" is the person who writes Mighty Chilwu (a fictional martial arts hero); his second work is a modern drama "Suspicious Housekeeper." sageuk is probably worrying about Book would not be a true historical like Jeong Dojeon as it is written by someone who doesn't have experience in historicals nor experience in politics.
