Can't sleep...
Three topics I cannot watch (in K-drama or elsewhere):
* body-swapping * age-jumping * extramarital affair

Things in dramas (or elsewhere) that annoy me ("can not watch" is too strong of a term for me.....sometimes it depends on the drama....) * "Two Years later...." * girls who act stupid, sometimes necessary, but often over done * dramas that end too quickly-- a lot of build-up in the story and then the last episodes wrap things up way too fast * dramas that become "hits" and so they add episodes and drag out the story

Song Yeon of "Yi San"!!
I sorta agree with you about the build-up but I don't like dramas that drag out the ending either. For me when the misunderstanding is cleared up and the couple confess their love for each other, I want it done. None of these wedding scenes and then little kiddies running around after please. I find them kinda boring.

Stuff in historical dramas that drives me nuts:
--Contemporary pop songs. No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
--Characters who just happen to encounter each other in a vast wilderness of hundreds of square miles, over and over again.
--Old guys who fight like they're 23.
--Over-choreographed fight scenes that look like ballet rather than battles.
--Ignoring the laws of nature. Boomerangs that turn corners; characters who can run straight up the side of a tree; a paralyzed person who suddenly gets up and walks because he really, really wants to...that kind of thing.
And the big one: so-called historicals that screw around with history for the sake of ratings or because they're too lazy to get it right, and end up telling stories that are totally fictional without being honest and upfront about it.
P.S. And one more that applies to all dramas, pretty much what bird said: Extending the length of a series while it's airing and then filling the extra episodes with repeat versions of things we've already seen.

LOL, you would hate "Hong Gil Dong." Don't know if you've seen it. I saw this when I was just starting on K-drama and the music that was playing in the beginning of the drama was some hip-hop number with these circus performers. It was wild, and I was VERY confused!!
Ohmgosh, I hate this too!! Some dramas would have me believe the population of Seoul is TEN!! The one particular drama I happen to remember right now is "Take Care of Us, Captain." I love Gu Hye Sun so I started watching. It started out amazing - loved the story, the actors, everything. Then... O. M. G... The STUPID misunderstandings between the lead couple!! And then they lived down the street from each other and day or night when one came out of the house, there came out the other one too. It was like clockwork. It happened like ten times a day!! Just because of that I could NOT watch any longer. I had to quit I forget at what episode (4? 5?) because I was gonna vomit if they accidentally bumped into each other in the street again.
Heehee!!
I have to admit I actually like these scenes, you know with the slo-mo and all. The beginning of "Tree with Deep Roots" was just awesome! Don't know if it's OVER-choreographed but I loved it.
There are people who can really do this. So my mother would have you believe...

Okay everyone, I have something to say.
When I first joined here I wasn't sure how long I'd stick around. So when choosing a username I picked "fiona" without much thought. It's one of my fave names so that was good enough at the time.
Well, I really like it here. I really like all you guys. You're all funny, intelligent, interesting and entertaining. I think I'm gonna hang around for a while. Because of this I want to change my username to something that's closer to my real name (Birdy will know what spurred me on.)
My American name and Korean name both mean (when roughly translated) "treasure" or "jewel," so I want to change my username to "jewel." This way when you guys call me by name I won't feel somehow disconnected, because "fiona" really means nothing to me. Hope that makes sense, and I hope this is not too weird.
I won't change it if you guys have a problem with it.

It is ok with me if you change your name, especially since you gave us a "heads up". You really have me curious to see what your new screen name will be (and why I spurred you on... ) Does this mean you have to lose your "title" Addict Graduate? (not that it would take you that long to get back to that level! ) I read over your list and lo and behold, I am actually watching one of the dramas on your list "I really, really like You" not a great drama--getting it from Netflix, but at least I can watch it on the big TV screen! We won't get into the others on the list that I have seen and really like

LOL...I was becoming attached to calling you "fi"--I don't think I can call you "jew" without getting into trouble... You change your name to whatever pleases you, I think several of the guys are on their second or third incarnation. You should be able to change it in your profile easily, let us know if you can't figure it out, and then all your past and future posts will have that new name. Bo PS Bird, she won't lose her status, she only has to change the screen name on her profile, she still keeps the same profile with all its stats. People have only lost this if they forgot their password or could not get into their account for some other reason and did not have a valid email on their profile to receive help from Deiner (because we are no longer allowed to change things on people's profiles even with their permission). So she'll be fine.

Dramas I bailed on for some reason or other (some I watched only 1 or 2 episodes and others up to like 13): *** Assorted Gems **** Jewel in the Palace *** Prince's First Love *** Star's Lover **** Tamara, the Island **** That Winter the Wind Blows **** This is an interesting (and long!) list, so I thought I'd address the ones I know about and have seen:
Assorted Gems: I really really loved this show, because it was a slice-of-life daily drama with some interesting premises. However, the DF translator for some danged reason decided that if the character heard something from another room, over the phone or had "inner thoughts," then he/she didn't need to translate it for us English-speaking dummies. Since there were a lot of inner thoughts involved in this one, including the very last scene tying everything up, this was a real downer and aggravating as hell. I complained to DramaFever, but as usual their response was just, "Oh, sorry." Also, as I said, I loved the show, but the ending STANK. I mean, it stank to heck. SPOILER: It started out with young women making decisions for themselves and not being so much stuck under others' expectations, and then (almost in the last episode) did a complete 360 and made them all mealymouthed and "traditional." My theory is the fans didn't like the way things were going, so they made a fuss and the usual happened. Really a shame.
Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang-geum): WHAT. You didn't LIKE it? ROFL. I think you're in the minority there fiona, I think you might have caused a riot here a few years back when we actually had a lot of members. I loved it, but it did fall prey to unnecessary extensions, so it fell down that way.
Prince's First Love: This drama had a lot of problems. I had to review it, so I looked extra hard for things that were good (and there were some, including several good portrayals), but yeah, I really could not [and did not] recommend it. The Prince was a jerk, and actually he belonged in jail and so did his friend.
Star's Lover (Celebrity Sweetheart): Ah, yes. Sigh. Agree to disagree. LOL...
Tamra the Island: Tried to watch the first episode, but the blonde Frenchman masquerading as an Englishman? Who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag? And, why exactly do I want to watch this guy? I don't. Pitiful. Stinkeroo. LOL...
That Winter the Wind Blows: We watched the show as a group (mainly Birdie, me and Knov1), I think it was well received. I liked it, even though again the main male lead probably belonged in jail and there was some overly magical events on display, including people who should have been dead but managed to survive.
So, those are my random thoughts. Well, not random at all actually.

"jewel" is gonna be my new username. (Remember we were talking about why you like being called "birdy"?) I quit out on "I Really Really Like You" because I didn't like either of the lead guys. I loved the girl though. I might try it again. Please tell me which ones in my list you did see and really liked. Let's share. I'm very curious. And lots of the titles above I may try again in the future. Some I hated but some I didn't stick with for various other reasons. You can call me "joo" without getting in trouble. Oh good, I don't feel so bad now. Com'on Bo, you can't leave me hanging after tempting me with this juicy bit. I'm almost sure this drama I will not try to watch again so tell me what you mean by this. It's not that I didn't like it per se. I loved the lead girl (Hubby and I nicknamed her "Puppy Face") and I loved the costumes and the food and the music. But what I didn't like, at the time, was the choppy stories. What I mean is instead of one long flowing story, it had a problem in the beginning of every episode and then it would be solved at the end of that episode. I just didn't like that at the time. I am definitely gonna go back and try again. Hubby really liked it lots but he won't do K-drama without me so when I quit, he quit also. Could NOT agree with you more!!!!! (On the bold sentence.)

...Com'on Bo, you can't leave me hanging after tempting me with this juicy bit. I'm almost sure this drama I will not try to watch again so tell me what you mean by this..... [This post is about Assorted Gems.] What I will do is post a separate thread, telling the whole story, with a noticeable spoiler warning, under "Other Shows." Either later today or tomorrow, when I have time to do it.
That way, anyone who opens the thread will know they are in for TOTAL spoilage. And then you and I can discuss it, or anyone else, because I think my opinion of the show, and the show itself, might bring some interesting topics to mind and ever since I saw the thing (years ago!), I've been dying to discuss it with someone. Even a few posts would satisfy me.
kekekekekeke....

Here is my take on Jewel's list: Jewel in the Palace-- my first drama and I loved it! The clothes, the food, a strong female, AND Ji Jin Hee (although at that time I did not know that!) (thought at first that's where Jewel's new name came from ) Coffee Prince-- liked both main characters, once again (seeing a pattern here)-a female character that does whatever she can to better her life without necessarily depended on a male, loved the OST. Thought it was funny-- the gender storyline did not bother me Angel Eyes--might watch, only because a BigBang member plays a part in it.... Ghost-- So Ji Sub- need I say more?? Can't remember details, but thought it was good. That Winter, The Wind Blows-- Jo In Sung- (uh oh, another pattern forming!) Loved this drama, maybe the only drama that had a scene so realalistic that it shocked me-- don't want to say more. Although the female lead acted like a spoiled brat at time, she still seemed to want to stand on her own two feet no matter what. Arang & the Magistrate-- still haven't finished I really, really Like you-- typical drama, poor girl, rich guy, unknown family members, still watching....

Yaaayyy!!
If I were to choose my username from K-drama it would be from "Hong Gil Dong." The character Sung Yu Ri plays has a beautiful name, I totally loved it. But sadly I don't remember what it is. And too lazy to look it up.
Birdy, it's not "Coffee Prince" I bailed on but "Coffee House." CP I stuck it out tho it was painful at times. If a guy falls for a girl but he thinks it's a guy, does that make him gay?? Boy was I ever getting a headache from this drama!! As far as CH I just didn't like the lead guy or the girl.
I bailed on this one cuz it started with those two young version of the real lead couple and I just didn't like them. But I'm definitely gonna watch this drama. I have it queued in fact. To tell you the truth, I'm sorta crushing on the lead guy (the grown-up version). I haven't even actually seen him act or heard his voice but the picture of him at DramaFever hooked me. Maybe we can watch together...
I really wanted to watch this, I really tried. You know I adore So Ji Sub ssi. But the drama was just too intense, too scary.
Hubby wants to finish this so we will sometime soon.
Wanna finish this too...
