Thanks so much for posting this! I had a awful evening at work, I even stopped at McD's for an ice cream sundae on the way home, then I checked this out and after 5-10 minutes of reading and smiling and loving this I was like.... wait a minute I have ice cream to eat! LOL Wow, I didn't know there was a name for this, I almost always root for the second lead.....I'll have to think about this some more and post some of my favorite SL's.......

Daniel Choi wasn't a second lead tho. And...you mean Kim Nam Jin. Technically, Daniel Choi was the guy who was never fated to get the girl, so he fits the profile of second lead expectations. Yes, Kim Nam-jin. I always screw up that poor guy's name, even when I'm looking right at it. Oh! And Bae...what's his name. The guy who lost out to Yi Seung-ki in Shining Inheritance...and also was a sparkly Jeongjo in Painter of the Wind. Oh, Wait. Internet. Bae Soo-bin. LOL @ birdy...you do know that the "first lead" in Spring Days was some dude named Jo Insung, right?

Ohmgosh Bo, Second Lead Syndrome and I are such old friends! It all started with "49 Days" - my very first K drama. I felt so sorry for Bae Soo Bin character. And then after I watched "You're Beautiful" like a thousand times and was so infatuated with Jang Geun Suk and at the time when I felt nothing was too good for him, I watched "Hong Gil Dong." Now being still fairly new to K drama and not really understanding the formula, I believed the king still had a good chance of winning the girl over the lead guy (stupid me!). You don't know how I cried for Jang Geun Suk when that wretched girl (but I still love Sung Yu Ri!) refused to love him, and to this day I canNOT watch anything starring that Hong Gil Dong lead guy.
And then like you, total SLS with "Prince's First Love." Not that I really cared for the SL guy per se but compared to that jackass (aka lead guy) he was prince among men. I totally bailed on that ridiculous drama at around episode 8. How are we supposed to root for a guy that leaves the girl in the middle of the ocean to die? I couldn't bear to see beautiful Sung Yu Ri succumb to that prince jerk!
Then there was "Goong." Now I really liked the lead guy in this but there was a part of me that suffered from SLS. The cousin that could've been the crown prince was just too pitiful. There was this one scene where he was crying and saying that even after 10 million years he would still love her or something, I was just bawling with him. So sad. But still am glad she ended up with the lead guy.
Had a mild case of SLS in "The Greatest Love" and "Iljimae." Total SLS in "Beethoven Virus" although I didn't like the lead girl at all so I wasn't broken up that Jang Geun Suk didn't end up with her.
Total SLS in "Paradise Farm." This is where I first saw Joo Sang Wook and fell for him like I don't know what. That smile of his - wow!! In the beginning of the drama I was like oh, the SL guy is way cuter. Then the more episodes I watched the more I liked the SL guy and less and less I liked the lead guy. Finally I had to stop watching around episode 9 cuz I couldn't bear to watch Joo Sang Wook broken-hearted over losing the girl and by that time I really began actively hating the lead guy. Now I know that the SL guy rarely ever wins the girl at the end, I'm very careful when I choose my drama. I refuse to watch a drama with any of my favorite actors as SL unless I know for sure he somehow gets the girl.

I forgot to mention my latest SLS case. Last month my mom and I watched, "King of High School" together and I totally fell into SLS. It was really too bad we chose that drama to watch together because it was our first one together (except one we saw long ago when I was little and was home sick and I don't even remember what it was so it doesn't count) and I ended up hating it around episode 6 or so.
If it weren't for my mom (who loves any high school drama) I would've definitely called it quits. It started out so great - the story original, the cast so funny - then it started really going downhill fast. For me anyway. But I loved the 2nd lead guy. Don't know his name and never seen him anywhere before but he was the only thing that made it just watchable... I wasn't even sad he didn't get the girl tho cuz I found her so unappealing...

Ohhh hoo, so that's why I detested Spring Days! I thought the female lead was goofy for picking Ji Jinhee's winey brother! My consolation was Jinhee's lead role in He Who Can't Be Married. He's got a great smile! And a small part in Celebrity Sweetheart.

Am a little confused... Just looked up "Spring Days"... Is this drama and "King of High School" supposed to have some connection I don't know about?
I remember another SLS. Watched about half of "Delightful Girl Choon Hyang" before I had to bail. Total SLS in that one. HATED the lead guy!
