Ok- i tried to make a list of my Top 10 and ended up with a loooooong list! So here are some of my favorites in no particular order: First drama I ever watched was "Jewel in the Palace", others I watched are The Prime Minister and I, Sweet 18, Summer Scent (great OST), Winter Sonata (great OST), Cain and Able, Dating Agency: Cyrano, When a Man Loves, The Deep Rooted Tree, Cheongdam Dong Alice (liked this alot), A Gentleman's Dignity (a favorite, good OST), King of Baking Kim Tak Gu, Painter of the Wind, He who can't Marry (funny!), Boys Before Flowers (good on the eyes, if you know what I mean ). I could go on, but I would probably crash this site I don't know if I mentioned it in the other thread, but I like watching Korean shows like "2 days, 1 night" and "Running Man" when I am all caught up on dramas. I have recently started watching "Return of Superman" after BigBang appeared on a episode and it is about some fathers who watch their kids without their wives for 2 or 3 days-- the kids are soooo adorable!

Now don't get mad but lots of these I bailed out on: Jewel in the palace - too long! And the food all looked so good I was constantly hungry! (Will try again) Prime minister and I - couldn't stand the lead actress Dating agency: cyrano - didn't care for the lead actor He who can't marry - i couldn't deal with whatever illness he had My mom loves Winter Sonata and is trying to convince me to watch it but I think it looks too sad. i have not tried 2 Days, 1 Night or Running Man. I did try Strong Heart but everyone talked so fast, most of the time I didn't know what they were talking about so I stopped watching. And none of my fave actors came on... Bird11, I have to tell you I bailed on Ghost. I had to. I finished watching episode 2 and there is no way I can go on. ***spoiler*** The charred body that was supposed to be So Ji Sub... No, no, no!!! That lovely body!!! I just can't take movies like that, and certainly not for 20 hours! i have started on Arang And the Magistrate which I've been wanting to watch for a while. I think I'll like this one, though I'll miss So Ji Sub... I'll go back to The Master's Sun once in a while for a shot of SJS when my withdrawal gets very bad.

Don't worry there were many times I thought I would have to bail on a drama but kept watching because people on the board were watching and I love to read/post about dramas. I starting Dating Agency mainly because the lead actor was in A gentleman's Dignity and I liked that one. I watched He Who can't marry because my son has Asperger's and it reminded me on how my son's acts in certain situations! I started watching 2 Days,1 Night mainly because one of my favorite actors Uhm Tae Woong was on it. I started watching Running Man because Big Bang was on it. Both shows can be really funny and there are times when I laugh until I have tears in my eyes and it was a great release after a long day at work. Let me know what you think about "Arang and the Magistrate"-- one of those I have thought of watching.....

I hope I didn't offend you when I said what I said about "he who can't marry". I'm a nurse and I see lots of illness at work so I just don't like to deal with it on my downtime, I guess.
On my 3rd episode with "Arang and the magistrate" and I'm really liking it. I just find Lee Joon Gi so cute. I just love his eyes. And while most fight scenes leave me bored to tears, LJG's fights I find so fun and exciting, don't know why. He'll always be Iljimae to me! Absolutely fell in love with him in that drama! There is a really fun fight scene in epi 3 (of "Arang").
I love LJG as yangban (upperclass gentleman?) in "Arang" and the way he clicks his tongue at the lead girl when she does something he thinks is silly and the way he clears his throat when he's embarrassed or is trying to hide his emotion. So cute!!! There is this one scene when the two are arguing about something and they both give this huff and turn sharply away from each other at the exact same time... Omg, too cute for words. I must've watched that scene over and over again. So adorable!!!
i have to tell you I was rootin' through "that winter the wind blows" board and came across "beat the caption" thread... Omg, it was so funny!! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. You guys are so funny!!! I showed it to my husband - he especially loved the "pinky promise" pix and Jo In Sung saying, "You. Are. Effing. Kidding. Me". Hysterical! I forced hubby to watch the drama with me a while back. We must've watched up to 6 or 7 episodes before I had to stop (too sad!). He actually really liked it but refuses to watch on his own. Maybe we'll go back and finish it one of these days.
how long has JIS been your favorite, do you mind me asking?

No problem at all--- I will admit that "He who can't marry" takes a certain something to watch-- it seemed a bit extreme in the way he reacted to things, but that kept it lighthearted and not so dismal. With your great description I think I am going to find time to watch "Arang", it sounds good and any korean guy that is described as "I just love his eyes" has got my attention 100%- I don't know about this guy , but I love it when they say "He's got great eye smiles" (while looking for past threads I did see we had a thread for this drama in the "Other" section, I think it came up in page 4) I'm glad you found that "Beat the Caption" thread-- I just went back and reread them and got to admit that was the funniest thing we have ever done on this board! I am not sure how long JIS has been my favorite-- but it might have started with "that winter the wind blows" and I just watched everything else I could get my hands on after that! As you could see from the Beat the Caption thread I was mentioned in many a comment for my liking JIS in this drama.......

"He's got great eye smiles." Ooh, I love that phrase!! I'm assuming the shape of the eyes when he smiles? If that's the case, no one can beat "eye smiles" like Jang Geun Suk's. When he smiles, his eyes turn into these crescent moon shapes - so adorable, just makes me smile along with him!!!
I went to the "Arang" thread like you told me but sadly most people had bad things to say about it. I'm still liking it. I just started epi 6. It got quite creepy in epi 5 and continues to be scary into epi 6, but I love Lee Joon Gi and I think the lead girl is cute so I'm gonna stick with it.
I was sad to read some people didn't like "faith" either. I really loved that drama. The love between the main couple was so pure and selfless, it was very moving - one of the best love stories. I thought Lee Min Ho was very good in it - loved his long wavy hair. and the lead girl was soooo cute and funny!!!
What does the word "fusionish" mean when applying to K drama, by the way???

I'm a new member here who recently discovered K drama and have gone K crazy. Well, it's about time we got some fresh blood in here. This place was starting to look like an Old Folk's Home. Wracking my memory here; I agree completely with your choices of "Beethoven Virus" and "My Lovely Sam Soon." I loved them both. Some other memorable dramas (in no particular order) that I can whole-heartedly recommend: "Damo" (sometimes called "Female Detective Damo"). One of the few "Fusion" dramas that really worked for me. Actress Ha Ji-won turns in a wonderful performance as a Choseon-era police detective. www.koreanwiz.org/drama-damo.html"Emperor of the Sea." Well, okay, here is another historical "Fusion" drama that worked for me. A little slow-starting, but extremely well done, once you're deep in it. You'll surely enjoy actor Song Il-kook's performance as the tormented "Yeom Moon." I hear lots of people didn't like the shows ending ... but it WAS historically accurate! "Dal-ja's Spring." A comedy-drama that reminds me a little of "My Lovely Sam-soon" in spirit. Great fun, lovable characters. What's not to like? www.koreanwiz.org/at/drama-daljasspring.html"The Immortal Yi Soon-shin." Don't know if you're into historical dramas, but actor Kim Myung-min's stirring portrayal of Korea's greatest naval hero will have you on your feet hollering "Pompora!!" ("Attack!!") Actually, almost anything with Kim Myung-min is worth watching - consider his performance in the already mentioned "Beethoven Virus." www.koreanwiz.org/at/drama-leesoonshin.html"Who's My Love." The Bo will be along anytime now to say this is her all-time favorite K-drama. It's one of mine, too: a loveable extended family with characters you really come to know and care about. Doesn't seem to be available for viewing on DVD or the internet, though. www.koreanwiz.org/at/drama-mylove.html"Rose Colored Life" (also called "My Rosy Life," and sometimes, weirdly, "War of the Roses). A rather grim story with the late actress Choi Jin-shil delivering the acting performance of a lifetime. Still haunts me a little, even today. A must-see, but keep the tissues handy during the last two episodes. www.koreanwiz.org/at/drama-rosecoloredlife.html"Yellow Handkerchief." One of the all-time best daily dramas, with a terrific performance from actress Lee Tae-ran. Not available for viewing on DVD so far as I know, though. www.koreanwiz.org/drama-yellow.html(to my astonishment, it appears that I was the one who actually wrote KoreanWiz's drama introduction to Yellow Handkerchief ... and I don't even remember doing so)! "The Bizarre Bunch." Another daily drama that may not be available for viewing any more, but this was a big favorite here on the Chicago board some years back. Plenty of wonderfully goofy characters that you just couldn't help but love. www.koreanwiz.org/at/drama-bizzarebunch.htmlProbably a dozen more I could add, but these are tops on my list. You might give them a try.

Hi Mikey, nice to meet you! "Beethoven Virus" and "My Lovely Sam Soon" - 2 out of 10 is not too good but I'm glad we agree on the two at least. Thank you so much for all the links. I had fun reading all the dramas you recommended. Your write-up was great! Wow - some of those were 81, 169, 170 episodes!!! You're talking to a girl who was raised on 2 hr movies... The longest I've experienced was "the lord of the rings" (one of my faves of all times - don't know how many times I've watched this). I adore K drama now but I can't seem to do more than the 16 to 20 hr ones. I do like historical dramas but not what the purists would call historical probably. I find the language in the real serious historical dramas very hard to understand and have to rely on the subtitles heavily, which I don't love to do... what is historical fusion drama? Does it mean like contemporary historical???

what is historical fusion drama? Does it mean like contemporary historical??? A fusion sageuk (historical) refers to a period drama with modern elements. Arang & the Magistrate and Faith are examples of fusion dramas, although they are fusion fantasy to be exact.

I had fun going through the Off Air board. Some titles sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember any details about them. Here are 10 dramas that I really enjoyed (starting with my favorite). Five are marked with an H for historical dramas:
The Great Jang Geum -H Who's My Love? Age of Warriors -H Bizarre Bunch Damo -H The Great King Sejong -H The Immortal Yi Soon Shin -H My Precious Child Grand Chef Pure in Heart
Also, Farewell to Sorrow, if it's the one about an abandoned child who's allergic to the same fruit as his mother, the club owner. He's raised by a good family. He and his birth mother find each other by the end, after she hires him, and she sees his allergy.
And Freeze, because it stars the gorgeous Lee Seo Jin.

What modern elements does "Arang" and "Faith" have, I wonder... I guess, for "Faith" it could be the lead actress since she came from modern time Is it the language aspect?... Is it the ghosts for "Arang" and time travel for "Faith" ... *scratching head* thank you, Ginnycat, for the list. I had fun looking up all the dramas. Wow, you guys are some serious K drama viewers - one drama had 170 episodes!!! I think I would like "The Great King Sejong" - he sounds like a very interesting character. And I think "Pure at Heart" looks really good. The lead girl is the same girl from "Boys Over Flowers" - I loved her in that. But it's so loooooong...!!!

Is it the ghosts for "Arang" and time travel for "Faith" ... *scratching head* It's the way they talk, how they are often dressed and they don't really follow the customs of the time either. The ghosts in Arang and time travel/powers in Faith are why they're classified as fusion "fantasy".
