As is obvious by now, I’m going to try to keep a board going for Jeong Dojeon. It may not work out but we’ll see. No lengthy episode summaries for this one, but I’ll put up a thread for each episode and hit the main points just for reference purposes. And I’ll try to keep a character roster going too.
No idea how many people are going to watch the show—particularly with the god-awful time slot—so it may just be me whistling in the dark. And I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to keep up over the long haul; may run into some time constraints. So if the board sputters and dies, my apologies in advance.
(The other slight concern is the possible overlap with Shin Don, possibly seeing the same people or events in both shows. But we know from Shin Don’s first episode that the series ends with Gongmin still on the throne, so presumably Jeong Dojeon won’t be spending more than a minimal amount of time on those years, if any. We’ll see.)
In any event I really hope I can see this through, for several reasons. One, because of all the buzz about this series and its goal to be historically accurate. Two, because there are plenty of familiar faces from previous historicals and it will be fun to see them again. Three, because it’s a current on-air historical , and the forum needs to get back to featuring those now that we have not just one but two networks available. Plus, personally I’ve never seen a series about this period in history (except for a few brief flashbacks during the Sejong series) and I don’t know a lot about it. And with KBS in no hurry to release Tears of the Dragon, might as well watch this one.
So provided the old VCR holds up, we’ll start tomorrow and see how it goes.
