I don't know if I missed this the day you posted it or just said "I'll do it later" and forgot. I really hope this drama turns around, this whole thing of BongShil in the city and acting like a lost dog is so---I don't know-- boring, unbelievable, slow, ect. It's strange when are watching a drama and you are hoping for the "side" characters to show up because they are more interesting, more lively, than the main characters. I really like SooAe, Woonsook, even InYoung is interesting with the two possible boyfriends as long as she stops complaining about living with her sister and her phone!! Even YoonYoung's making playdates for her daughter so she can grab an actress is interesting, but right now the Bongshil story is kinda dragging. Don't like the whole selling the possible illegal plants either, maybe she will open a food stand and things will get more exciting.. will watch ep 9 soon.

But you didn't totally LOVE the "rescue Bongshil" scene at the police station? I'm surprised. I was very touched by Wonsook's behavior throughout. I think they are setting the scene for the two women to become friends of a sort. Some may not like the thought of a mistress and a wife becoming friends--I'm thinking soapygrams won't. (Maybe she's watching too she sometimes does but then I have to scare her out of the lurker area by making accusatory statements. LOL. Speak to us, soapy.)
I'm thinking it's time for some analysis here. Am I the only one totally disturbed by the fact that people apparently start fights in the street with alarming regularity? Not just mobsters and American servicemen (ahem), but regular people. Looks like Britain over there. We've all seen where the wife goes to the mistress and tears her hair out, which for a long time seemed like a special (but still rather odd) instance. But it seems to me that this is clearly accepted behavior according to the K-dramas. Property damage, physical assault, and when the parties go to the police station, the victim is blamed by both the attacker and the police. Are the police really that stupid there? This may have to go into my next article.
On the same tack, what the heck is this with people sending a nice ajumma to a love hotel? What kind of jerk DOES that? Totally whacked. Don't they have real hotels where people sleep over there? Was that supposed to be a funny scene or something? Actually, I can think of one instance where this might have worked for me, and that would be if the guy pointed to a REAL hotel, but she went into the wrong door and got the love hotel. They could easily have done that.
I think the fact that Inyoung complains so much about her phone is very funny, it speaks to her character and how dependent she is. But they are cleverly adding a layer to her, as well. She doesn't take the easy way, she doesn't allow rich boy to give her another (after all, it's no skin off his teeth as far as cost), she insists on trying to settle it with the person she deems responsible. I like her better for that. And again, that boy physically attacked Inyoung in the street and she does nothing. I just don't get it.
I love Soo-ae, what a sweetie pie. How tactful she is, and sensible. A very well-written character that adds so much to the story. (And PS I'm not just being politically correct. I don't like the other two "club" characters at all--the glasses/bald guy is too too campy, and the Donna Versace loving transsexual is not a very good actor.)
I agree that Bongshil's story is dragging, but there is every sign that things will pick up shortly, don't you think? I mean, she FINALLY met Mr Big. He's in some sort of existential crisis and so is she. I have high hopes. And I don't really think the plants are illegal drugs, I think they are perfectly innocuous. I think (dead) Mr Seo is manipulating the real world. I wish they'd be more foreward with that concept. It would help.

I agree with so much of what you posted, the whole fight scene with BongShil was crazy-- why in the world would she be taking the girl's spot!?!? The hair pulling scenes in dramas are so weird! The yelling and screaming in the police station just adds to the chaos and makes it seem more fake-- the police really seem clueless and not very productive. As far as the mistress and the wife becoming friends-- not sure if I would like it, but just because they seem so different in styles and personality it is hard to see them getting along. I can see Wonsook helping Bongshil out of guilt or maybe because she really loved Bongshil's husband that she feels it is a way to keep his memory alive for her. (Although Wonshook seems like she likes to help everyone!) The whole hotel scene-- once again-- really would someone send Bongshil to a hotel like that, Is Bongshil really that naive to not be able to get a hotel room? This may add comedy to the story, but it is not all that believable and not all that enjoyable to watch. Like I said in my other post, I am liking Inyoung more, just not her whinning-- here too is a character that may have started out weak/spoiled but will learn to grow with her current circumstances, which is why I think they threw in all this "Bongshil in the big city" stuff to show how she grew and changed after her husband died-- but I certainly think they could have done it in a different way. I agree with your whole paragraph on Soo-ae

LOL, I love when people agree with me. I've been having trouble watching episode 9 (seemed to be a DramaFever problem, not mine), but it worked this morning and I watched about half of it. I'll post again after I see the rest. I have to say, I agree, Wonsook is just nice to everyone. She's naive but believably so, it's not annoying to me just seems like a part of her character. Here's to things picking up.
And here's to elegant, scary dogs.

LINK TO CAST LIST THREADWhat happened in Episode 9: David Kim and his driver take a passed-out Bongshil to the hospital in the limo. She wakes up, sees the scary dogs and notices her bags are missing, and panics. The driver, a cheery sort who seems thrilled she can converse with them, assure her they have the bags and when they get to the hospital, he brings out some plastic sandals because she'd lost one shoe. She tries to run away, but David Kim makes her stay. However, she is able to flee the jurisdiction when a big, multiparty accident is rushed in and the doctor must take care of it, and Mr Kim is away getting some juice, or summat. He is amused when he returns and there's a note on the bed with some cash "for the slippers." Bongshil tries to spend the night in a sauna, but the other customers are alarmed when she lays out her fragrant herbs to "dry out" and the manager wants to kick her out. However, Wonsook is there with her bald friend, and they shuffle Bongshil out for a breakfast at the bald guy's Thai restaurant. Bongshil insists on paying, then after Wonsook presses her to stay at the latter's home, asks, "Do you have a roof terrace?" She does, as it turns out, and it includes an old apartment used as a storage area. Bongshil cleans the place up to live in, she'll pay rent later, and sets up her plants on the roof. She has a conversation with Wonsook about who is older, and they agree on what they will call each other. Very important. It looks like everything will be fine for her now. Except--naturally-- NUH UHHHHH. At the street stall where Soo-ae bought food for Mrs Go (Bongshil), we learn the owner has been operating illegally (zone was changed) and is about to have her restaurant confiscated by the local authorities. Mrs Go shows up, practically begging to be swindled by her, so she does. "How do I get in on this food-selling game?" The owner has a bright idea--buy my place! This is an excellent location! So Mrs G hands over every cent she can pull from the bank. The owner has the nerve to say, this doesn't include my dishware or recipes. So Mrs Go has to lay out funds for bowls etc. and ingredients. She happily cooks all day and heads over to her new place. It's gone. She learns from a local bar bouncer that the authorities took it (not the police, someone else). She goes to that place, which is about to close, where they tell her she had every opportunity to move her stuff with the previous warnings, but what? You just bought the place? Oh, I think you were swindled! At which point, of course, Mrs Go dissolves into a puddle on the floor. Other things: It looks like Yoon's plan to get famous retired actress Lee Junghyun in her clutches may be working--she gets a call from Junghyun saying her son can come to the pajama party. So Yoon calls in emergency party planners (pretty dumb planners BTW, if you ask me). Yoon's husband of course decides it's time for a perm and some new clothes, but at the beauty parlor, he overhears that Junghyun's husband and the original actress Yoon hired, Oh Eunmi, have been having an affair. Yoon's assistant investigates and suggests they can use this info to, erm, "get" Eunmi to honor the original contract. "Why?" says Yoon. "Why take sausage when you can have filet mignon?" Or words to that effect. Jincheol, the "friend" who got Mr Seo in trouble, then murdered him, then bought his shop but now cannot find the stolen painting he hid there, plays cutesy word games with the Japanese mobster to whom he sold the paintings on spec. That probably won't turn out well. Mangeum finally finds the note from Mrs Go, telling him to take care of Mija because she's pregnant. He runs down to the dock and proposes to her. She accepts; everybody happy. Except later, she experiences sharp abdominal pains. At the hospital, Mangeum is told they may lose the baby. This is impossible! He's the seventh only son! Take her to Seoul, NOW. An ambulance is called, and when angry old Geumsil tries to get in after attacking Mangeum for getting Mija pregnant, he kicks her out and goes with Mija. David Kim's bodyguard driver figures out that the noodle dish he got from Geumsil isn't the one David Kim liked (this scene was touching) so he goes back to her and finds out that Bongshil made it. He finds her empty house, then calls an investigator to locate her. This guy never gives up. Speaking of which, we learn that old Mangeuk has a missing son. From the photo, I can't tell if it's David Kim or his driver, it could be either one, but I'm guessing it's David Kim. **** I was just soooo mad at Bongshil. Her son-in-law is an ex-lawyer. She didn't draw up any papers? She didn't have him look anything up for her? SRSLY? She deserved to be hoodwinked. She's kept everyone out of the loop, and it's just not working for her, so when is she going to smart up?

Sorry I haven't posted lately.... Loved how BongShil left the money at the hospital for the slippers-- her husband may have owed the world money, but not her! The whole scene with her at the sauna and spreading out the plants was just annoying-- how can she be so nice to leave money at the hospital, but when it comes to those stupid plants she will spread them all over the sauna and not care how many people she annoys?!?!?!? I keep thinking the plants are like eucalyptus--so they are so fragrant or something it just drives people around her crazy! I honestly thought the whole food cart thing was going to be Gongshil's saving grace, but nooooo we once again are subjected to her pure stupidity to give a stranger all her money and then buy all those pots and food supplies-- for someone who's husband supposedly left her in such poor straights, she sure is able to pull out the money whenever she needs it-- like paying for breakfast. I am liking the story with Yoon trying to get the actress to sign for her drama. Her husband is so funny-- just up and spends money whenever he needs something-- I think I said it before, but he almost acts like the stereo-typical stay at home mom--just buys what ever he wants and has no clue to their finances. I have to admit part of the reason I like this story line is the two kids-- good actors That Geumsil is really getting to me, I have seen this actress in other dramas and liked her, but her she is soooo annoying. I guess she is trying to protect Mija, because she doesn't think that Mageum can take care of Mija like a "man" should-- but they are both adults and not doing anything that crazy that would harm themselves. I mean Mageum seemed to be working and getting paid when he worked for Gongshil, Mija seems to work hard and enjoys working on the boat..... I don't really get what Geumsil is so upset for-- I think they make a great couple!!!!!!!

You don't like Geumsil? I think she's great. She's the quintessential elder relative, what would K-drama be without one? I'll post Ep.10 soon, what she says there may change your mind a bit--it did mine.
Yeh, the sauna thing was just wrong headed. But now that I think of it, how has Bongshil behaved before? For instance, she receives a foreclosure letter from the bank, and her response is to bring them a cake? It's childish. Of course, I'm ignoring the fact that it worked, but still. And her whole flight to Seoul was engendered by receipt of another bank warning letter, which to my uncertain knowledge she didn't forward to anyone. Won't the bank sell her property in her absence? I repeat--her actions appear childish in every instance. Look at how many times she's laid her body on top of her plants, crying, even in the street, and how she can't even defend herself when someone is clearly walking all over her. What? The younger character she resembles most is Yoon's husband, now that I think about it. She just tears off and does whatever she thinks of in the moment. Wait. That's what Inyoung does too. Poor Yoon, it must drive her nuts, she can't escape wanton irresponsibility every way she turns. No wonder she has an eating disorder. LOL...

I liked what you said about Gong-shil's behavior-- so childlike, I think my thought is that someone who seemed to be so successful in nurturing and growing plants would have to be smarter than she is acting. Maybe, because she spent so much time in her greenhouse she never went out into the world (like Seoul) so she is unaware of things are done in other instances. Since she thought her husband was some big-time successful business man she left all the "bill-paying" stuff to him, so that is why she is lacking in handling the banks and the food-stand business. But still, if I were in that type of situation, I would think a lot about spending any money even if it seemed like a good idea at the time-- to empty the bank account to start a business seemed pretty foolish, no matter how much it looked like a good idea. Can't wait to see what Geumsil says-- it't not that I don't like her, I just don't like the way she treats Mageum-- like he is an idiot just because he doesn't have a great job or a lot of cash-- Mija is no princess (couldn't think of a different adjective) I think they are perfect for each other and she should just leave them alone-- with Mija being rushed to the hospital and all, the last thing they need is some lady screaming at them!

I decided to add the following thread, and link to it at the top of every episode after page 3 (page 2 just has long discussions, and page 1 has the link right at the top in a big font--but I may add it later to other page 1 episodes). LINK TO CAST LIST THREADThis is so I don't have to keep noting who everyone is, you can just go to the top of the post you are in, right-click the link and tell it to open up in another tab, so you can keep both tabs open and reference the cast descriptions if you need to. LINK TO CAST LIST THREADEpisode 10 – Bongshil tries to get it together a bit, but can’t sell the dishes back to the dish store and can’t get anyone to admit they know the phone number of the woman who swindled her. (I just had a thought. The officers who took the stall--they should know the previous owner’s information, right? She must originally have had some sort of license, so they’d have information on file. Right?) Wonsook knows something must be wrong because she hears Bongshil break down in tears in the laundry room, and later, Bongshil has her invite friends over to eat the food because they shouldn’t waste food. They invite Baldy, Versace and Soo-ae. Soo-ae spends the meal nervously hiding her face from Bongshil (because they know each other but Bongshil doesn’t realize it) and leaves early. Versace eats like a pig then tries to get a doggy bag, and is roundly scolded by all because this food is worth big money. This must be true, because Versace takes as much of it as she can get to her club and orders her employees to charge high prices for it. Bongshil gives Versace what she wants, but says she’ll sell the rest on the street herself; she figures she can carry it on her head in the tourist district, the authorities only told her no street stall was allowed. So she spends the day selling to tourists. Meanwhile, Yoon’s pajama party goes great, mostly due to Kyungsoo’s efforts. (Yoon kicks out Inyoung for the night, which results in Inyoung getting the use of Jaesoo's sister's apartment; Niki finds out about this and implies rude things about Inyoung's virtue; Inyoung is infuriated but unable to respond.) When Junghyun comes to pick up her son, Yoon corners the poor woman and informs her that she’s managed to stifle an article about the affair between actress Eunmi and Junghyun’s husband. “Call me and talk.” This is met with stony silence. And it seems Yoon hasn’t done any such thing. But she then meets with the reporter and gets him to scotch this story in favor of a bigger one—an exclusive interview with Junghyun about her long-rumored return to acting. He agrees. Geumsil comes to Seoul to be with Mija. She kicks Mangeum out of the hospital until he can get a job to support Mija and the baby. Although this might be an unpopular opinion, she’s got a good point. While there, she calls Yoon and asks to see Bongshil. Of course Yoon is entirely in the dark, but she, Kyungsoo and Uncle Joontae search the city. At a police station, the boys meet the two officers who arrested Bongshil in her fight with the streetwalker, and get a clue as to her vicinity; they call Yoon with the info. At the end, Yoon finds her mother on a stairstep, hawking food to passersby. “Oh, it’s you,” says a sheepish Bongshil. Yoon just glares and sways. Frightening. *************** Did I miss anything? I’m doing this from memory.

LINK TO CAST LIST THREADEpisode 11: Even though Yoon, Inyoung, Kyungsoo and Uncle Seo all try to get Mrs Go to stay at Yoon & Kyungsoo’s place, she staunchly refuses and states that she has to learn to take care of herself. She isn’t so old that she needs to become a burden on her daughter Yoon, who is struggling enough to take care of her own family. So she continues to sell her goods on the street, including tea made with the South American herbs, which are budding again. Then, Wonsook gets her to talk with Baldy, who is apparently a superbusiness geek with a Midas touch. He tells her to give out samples and whom to target with her business. Wonsook spends the day taking Bongshil around to all the local merchants, and she obtains some good contacts. She also happens to pass her husband's store, since sold to the Murderer Jincheol, who comes rushing out to pretend to be her friend and finesse any info he can out of her about the missing cabinet. He learns she sold a bunch of furniture to a local guy, so he makes a fruitless trip out to that place. (Haaah haaah! All your dreams are dead.) In the meantime, Uncle Seo drinks himself silly and is himself targeted by girls from Versace’s establishment, where they get him to run up a big bill. When Versace realizes Seo has no money, she tries to call the police, but Soo-ae talks her into hiring him as a singer instead. Geumsil continues to hang over Mija and Mangeum like a vulture on a saguaro. This seems like a bad idea, Mija is getting pretty stressed sneaking around. Mangeum tries to find a job at one of those places where people come and pick up day laborers, but doesn’t seem too popular with the employers. Soo-ae becomes more comfortable with Mrs Go, probably because the latter hasn’t recognized that Soo-ae was once a boy from her own hometown. However, she doesn’t realize that Mrs Go is starting to feel she knows her, and when she sees a scar on the back of her ear, the penny drops. She runs up to Soo-ae and says, “You’re Bongsoo, aren’t you!” [END] * * * * * Loved where Bongshil finally told Inyoung to stop acting like a baby and earn a scholarship instead. Wonder whether that will have any effect. And the mutual admiration society between Kyungsoo and Wonsook is hilarious.
So, the penny finally dropped for me over who Soo-ae really is. Did anyone else come to a conclusion? May be wrong, but I’m thinking we saw his photo in someone’s memory book recently.

Welcome Back ! thanks for the update, almost forgot I was watching this. Thankfully with BongShil trying to get her act together things are moving along and getting more enjoyable to watch. I am really liking Wonsook -- I think her and Bongshil just may end up as friends, even if it will be a little awkward with their "history". It was so sad when Bongshil passed by her husband's store, with the flashbacks and all, I sure hope that Bongshil ends up with the painting hidden in the cabinet and Jincheol ends up selling something on the street corner I have already started watching the next episode and InYoung is still acting like a spoiled brat-- wonder what will make her turn around. Soo-ae is still a favorite of mine, she plays her character so well. I hope we hear more about her story in upcoming episodes.

LINK TO CAST LIST THREADEp.12 (not in any particular order): Mrs Go has recognized Soo-ae as Beomsoo, the long-missing son of Mandeuk! [They never say so directly, but keep showing Mandeuk immediately after Soo-ae, so I drew a conclusion.] It seems Soo-ae always thought he was a girl and tried to act like one, at which time his dad would beat him. [Sounds like Mandeuk to me.] After she finds out Soo-ae has had transgender surgery, Mrs Go goes out of her way to comfort Soo-ae and tells her they'll work out everything together. Soo-ae also tells Bongshil that Uncle Seo is working at the club, and he gets a hot meal when he comes out of work that evening. Mrs Go asks a hungry-looking homeless girl to take another meal of hot noodles off her hands so she doesn’t have to drag stuff home, and the girl hesitantly agrees and looks grateful for the meal. Mangeum gets a job at the fishmarket, but loses it due to clumsiness. He runs into Mrs Go, who gives him some of the tea while they reconnect. When he goes out on the street, he is stopped by a Turkish food vendor (who thought he was Turkish) and gets a really good job hawking ice cream and waiting tables. Mija agrees to marry him, and he demands the boon of Mija’s hand from a sputtering Geumsil, but also gives her Bongshil’s phone number and address. Geumsil makes her way to Mrs Go's new digs and has a run-in with Wonsook (who she knows was Mr Seo's mistress) and a happy reunion with Bongshil (who has been out buying greenhouse materials and had a mostly pleasant accidental meeting with deliveryman Niki). David Kim has shopped crooked Senator Min to the press and a well-known honest DA. He also keeps passing Mrs Go on the street in his limo, but is too distracted by work to notice. His dog, however (amusingly), tries to alert DK as they pass her, but is merely shushed. One begins to feel sorry for Inyoung, she is so misunderstood. Despite good advice from his mom not to pressure Inyoung, Jaesoo collects her at school and drags her to a musical (looks like Goong 2). She tries to leave but he's timed it so she can't without embarrassment. (We also learn that Niki is a stage hand in this musical, but harbors dreams of stardom.) So she stays and loves the show. Until, that is, there is a "special" number after the end, and one of the masked gymnasts turns out to be Jaesoo with an engagement ring and a public proposal. When a mortified Inyoung later scolds him in her sister's lobby, she is herself scolded (by Yoon) for being inappropriate. A disconsolate Jaesoo is immediately lit upon by Kyungsoo who, first out of pity, brings him into their home. Then Kyungsoo seizes the opportunity to leave the baby and housework to a willing dupe, while he runs off to try to win $1BILLION!!! for his family in a drama contest. Meanwhile, Yoon, oppressed by work worries, is rescued by her assistant Sungmin who puts up his apartment as collateral on a loan extension. But there's more. She gets a call from Junghyun to meet at a restaurant. Junghyun thanks her for calling off the dogs but indicates she's not going to cooperate otherwise. It's clear she despises Yoon. Yoon makes a desperate plea to Junghyun, “Don’t you want to show your husband he can’t take you for granted?” Meanwhile, Mrs Go and Geumsil set up the rooftop greenhouse and flip on the the lights. People stop in the streets and stare, and in the distance, David Kim gazes out his window at the mysterious, bright star shining in the midst of Lee Tae Won district. ** Loved the angry conversation(s) between Geumsil and Wonsook, especially all that about how you should address people. (Wish the translator was doing a better job indicating this, though.) Also the one with Wonsook calling Soo-ae “she” and Mrs Go referring to “Beomsoo” and “him.” Priceless, and now that I think of it, very subtly indicated by the translator. And yes, I love the friendship that is growing between these two, almost without Bongshil’s consent. Lovely.
