I have the book also and it is a good source. When watching a historical, it is very helpful.
The one I am going to suggest had its ups and downs, some of it was just too much detail for a generalist like me but it focuses on the Age of the Warriors period. The Archfield is mentioned. Book is called Generals and Scholars: Military Rule in Medieval Korea. It is by an author named Schultz, I think.
What is different about this book is that it isn't near the whole history but a small very specific time.

Thanks for the tip, ck. I'll look it up.
Since you've got the other book, I'll just enjoy it on my own. LOL.

This tells more about the bloody ceilings of Kyoto. www.japanvisitor.com/kyoto/bloody-ceilings The boards were used as building material in temples. I wonder how they came to that decision. Very political, isn't it?

We had some discussion here about that Schultz book a while back, ck. One of our members here who's read a lot of history books had the same reaction you did about the level of detail, and the focus more on monks and peasants rather than the AOW-era leaders. He was so annoyed by it he didn't want to recommend the book! But unfortunately there aren't a lot of English-language translations of the books that focus on limited time periods. Here's a book discussion thread from a while back: deiner.proboards.com/thread/7728P.S. Still blown away that you were lurking here for ten years! Still get a laugh out of that. Glad you took the plunge.
