Brain freeze; typed KBS out of habit; will correct, thx.
Based on what you described I'll remove the "fictional." Hope the series ends up that way.

I have this so far for 2019:
Yimong / Different Dream (MBC 2019, ): Japanese occupation period --Doctor who spies for the Korean provisional government
Haechi (SBS 2019, 48 episodes) – King Sukjong of Joseon Dynasty --Prince Yeonying’s (a.k.a King Youngjo’s) rise to the throne
The Crowned Clown / The Man Who Became King (tvN 2019, 16 episodes) – King Gwanghae --Body double who replaces king; drama remake of 2012 film Masquerade
Green Bean Flower (SBS 2019, 24 episodes) --Donghak Peasant Revolution; brothers fighting on opposing sides
JTBC My Country (JTBS 2019) - Late Goryeo-Early Joseon --Love triangle during Goryeo-Joseon transition; fictional characters
Plus one that I guess got delayed:
The Chronicles of Asadal (tvN, air date TBA) - Gojoseon Dynasty
And then did this one ever air? I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere:
Fight of Thrones (CNTV 2018, 4 episodes) – Joseon Dynasty Ep 1 - Jeong Dojeon vs Ha Ryun Ep 2 - King Jungjong vs Jo Gwangjo Ep 3 - Crown Prince Sado Ep 4 - King Sejong
Thanks guys for keeping the forum up to date on upcoming dramas.

OK I will tweak the first one, thanks.
Fight of Thrones, was that an actual drama or more of a documentary like the "Golden Knights" miniseries? That's a whole lot of material to cover dramatically in four episodes.

Ha! Well then I appreciate the warning. Won't be showing up on our to-watch list here.
Okay everything is in the timeline now; for now it's in the incomplete/to-be-aired section but I'll gradually move it all into the main body. Thanks again for all of the helpful info.

It's done by a history documentary channel, so it does have the most accurate history presentation out of every dramas out there.

The Crowned Clown / The Man Who Became King (tvN 2019, 16 episodes) – King Gwanghae --Body double who replaces king; drama remake of 2012 film Masquerade Turns out the king in this drama is not King Gwanghae like the film version, but a fictional character named Lee Heon. This makes more sense since King Gwanghae was 33 when he became king and the actor who plays the main character is only in his early 20s.

OK thanks, I've tweaked the draft description. Is it safe to say that the time period will be the Gwanghae years or is it better listed as just an unclear Joseon drama? Or I guess we wait and see, probably too soon to know....

Or I guess we wait and see, probably too soon to know.... Just Joseon dynasty would be enough. There are so many Joseon era dramas with all fictional characters these days, which I guess is done to avoid historical distortion by giving a completely fictional story to a real historical figure.

SBS Ballad of Seodong(2005) was a fusion and I wouldn't watch it if it aired today with my current standard of historicals, but this one was ok at the time as one of the early fusion historicals. Looking back now it has the same "born of royal blood but becomes a low class peasant as a baby due to a evil scheme, comes back as adult to take the rightful place as king" cliche that I really hate, but this was one of the earlier ones and I was ok with it until the bombardment of fusion historicals with the same cliche came along. It's the only Lee Byeonghun drama that I watched as this guy uses the same cliche for all of his historicals.
Although King Mu living as a peasant and marrying a Shilla princess in this drama is based on a folklore, most historians doubt the legitimacy of the folklore.
This song is probably the only positive part about the drama. The song is based on the song "Ballad of Seodong" from the folklore, which the title of this drama is based on. We don't know how the original song sounded like, so this song pretty much got stuck in my head as the original song.

truth I moved your post into this thread since you provided some background and were nice enough to include the YouTube link with the song. Hope that's okay.
It definitely is a nice song, although I'd rather hear it done more traditionally (but a fusion series, guess you have to expect a fusion song).
I've never seen the series available online with English subs but I'll watch for it. Not planning on doing a fusion historical here but that one has a significant piece of folklore in it so if we ever do one, who knows.
