Hey everybody--can I please get a little help? Just want to make sure my timeline is fully up to date. For historicals beginning in 2015 I have six already listed:
Shine or Go Crazy Six Ascending Dragons Hwajung / Splendid Politics BOC / Jingbirok Princess Myeongjeong Maids
I don't have Scholar Who Walks the Night listed yet but I will very reluctantly find a place for it somewhere. So that makes seven. Does anybody know of any other 2015 historicals that I overlooked?
And then for 2016, I know of six so far that I need to add:
KBS Jang Youngsil KBS Jeong Yak Yong MBC Ok Jung Hwa KBS Hwarang - King Jinheung of Shilla SBS Saimdang, the Herstory SBS Moon Lovers (time travel)
Any others out there that I don't know about yet?
Thanks.

The title of Moon Lovers has been changed to Scarlet Heart : Goryeo.

Thanks truth-—all caught up for now. The Ok Jung Hwa series, I found that it’s also being called “The Flower in Prison” so I listed both titles as I usually do.
Stumbled across one more 2015 drama called “The Merchant: Gaekju 2015.” Actually it’s still airing; KBS2 drama and apparently it’s doing real well in the ratings. I see it on the Chicago schedule, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:40 – 9:00 p.m. if anybody’s interested. I’ll try to check it out.
And I even found an older series that I had missed. “Korean Mystery Detective Jung Yak Yong” from 2009-2010. Aired on a network called OCN. Just eight episodes and yes, they turned JYY into an investigator. I don’t know if it’s a fictional story or historically accurate, but I added it either way.

King And Queen is on you tube, sans subs of course, i watched the first two episode's which seems to cover the death of Munjong (making a guess as its not subbed) .
Finding so many clips from older lost dramas like Dawn Of The Empire, West Palace it would be cool to maybe start a thread as its the closest we will get to seeing them. Just a thought .

I took a look at Gaekju and dropped it after maybe at least ten episodes

You list both Hwajung / Splendid Politics, and Princess Myeongjeong. Are you sure these are two different dramas that aired in 2015 on MBC for fifty episodes? If so, in what timeslot did Princess Myeongjeong air? Also, why do both English and Korean Wikipedias call the princess in question Jeongmyeong?

Hi, Joe--Thanks for visiting and looking at the timeline. That second entry, you're right it shouldn't be there. It was just a temporary placeholder when the series was first announced and I didn't even have a date range for it yet. It was supposed to be deleted when the full entry was added. It's gone now. The garbling up of the name was probably just me being stupid, I don't remember, but either way that's gone too.
Really appreciate the sharp eye; if you spot anything else incorrect in there, please do let me know. Thanks again!

How about A Frozen Flower? Where does that figure in the timeline?

Hi, RD--thanks for visiting us and for looking at the timeline. Every few months I try to do a little more sleuthing and dig up more info to add to it.
I had never heard of "A Frozen Flower" and with good reason: it's a movie. The timeline here covers only television series, not theatrical movies.
At some point I may try to add movies to the timeline but I'm so unfamiliar with Korean cinema that it will be a tough job.
If I come across any decent sources of information on historical movies I'll at least post a link here.

Okay I think I've gotten the timeline current through 2017. If anybody sees any errors or omissions please let me know and I'll do the repair work.
Still keeping my eyes open for better information on the older historicals that are underrepresented here.

Okay it's time for the annual update of the historical drama timeline. I'm aware of these five series that should be added to the list:
Mr. Sunshine (TvN 2018, 24 episodes): 1900 - 1905 ――Fictional: Joseon/American soldier fighting against the Japanese
Kingdom (Netflix 2018, 6 episodes): Joseon dynasty ――Zombie apocalypse in Joseon - probably fictional (!)
Grand Prince (TV Chosun 2018, 20 episodes): Joseon dynasty ――Fictional; two princes in a love triangle (fictional princes based on Prince Suyang/King Sejo and his brother Prince Anpyeong)
The Hymn of Death (SBS 2018, 6 episodes): 1920s ――Drama version of 1991 film Death Song; romance between playwright and famous soprano singer
100 Days My Prince / Husband for 100 Days (tvN 2018, 16 episodes): Joseon Dynasty ――Fictional romance: Crown Prince gets amnesia and is lost for 100 days, and lives outside the palace
Does anybody know of any others that I've missed? There was a mention here a while back about a Japanese occupation drama called Yimong, later anglicized to A Different Dream, but I haven't heard or seen anything more about it. Also an SBS fantasy romance called Hong Cheongi about a female painter, same deal, mentioned a while ago but nothing recently.
Also there was mention about a four-episode miniseries about Shilla called "City of the Golden Knights" but is that another project that never made it to air?
A big thanks to you guys for posting updates on upcoming series here; makes it possible to keep the timeline current.

Mr. Sunshine (TvN 2018, 24 episodes): 1900 - 1905 ――Fictional: Joseon/American soldier fighting against the Japanese Mr. Sunshine isn't completely fictional. Yes, the main characters are fictional characters, but they do re-enact some historical events accurately. The disbandment of the Korean army is an example. Japan forcibly disbanding the Korean military as shown in the drama actually happened as well as the brutal killings of the Korean military that resisted. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namdaemun_BattleKingdom (Netflix 2018, 6 episodes): Joseon dynasty ――Zombie apocalypse in Joseon - probably fictional (!) Kingdom starts on January 25th, so it's a 2019 drama. There was a mention here a while back about a Japanese occupation drama called Yimong, later anglicized to A Different Dream, but I haven't heard or seen anything more about it. Yimong, a.k.a Different Dream, starts on May 2019. Also an SBS fantasy romance called Hong Cheongi about a female painter, same deal, mentioned a while ago but nothing recently. No news about it at all, so it probably got cancelled. Also there was mention about a four-episode miniseries about Shilla called "City of the Golden Knights" but is that another project that never made it to air? It already aired on 2017. It's more like a documentary than a drama though.

Yimong / Different Dream (KBS 2019, ): Japanese occupation period ――Fictional: A doctor is the main characterThe main character is actually a real person named Kim Wonbong and it looks like they'll try to depict some events in the life of Kim Wonbong in addition to the fictional love story between Kim Wonbong and his fictional doctor girlfriend, so I wouldn't call it completely fictional. It's also a SBS drama, not KBS. SBS A Different Dream(2019)Writer : Cho Gyuwon(Assistant writer for SBS Seo Dongyo) Director : Yun Sangho(SBS Saimdang, Light's Diary ) Time period : Japanese occupation of Korea Lee Yowon(Queen Seondeok in MBC Queen Seondeok) has been cast as Lee Youngjin, a doctor(fictional character) Yu Jitae has been cast as Kim Wonbong, the lover of Lee Youngjin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Won-bong
