I watched the first 2 episodes of this series. Han Tae Sang (Song Seung Heon) is a gangster until he meets Seo Mi Do (Shin Se Kyung). She reminds Tae Sang of himself when he was younger. She's a promising student when they first meet. He attempts to leave the business and help Mi Do in the process. Forward to 7 years later. Tae Sang is CEO of a successful business. He runs into Mi Do again. She's struggling to find anything more than part-time work. He hires her at his company The Golden Tree. The bad guy is played by Lee Chang Hoon. I can't get past his hair lol. He's a friend of Tae Sang's former gangster boss (who is dead). He's in love with Sung Joo, ex-girlfriend of the boss. She loves Tae Sang. If Song Seung Heon's facial hair isn't working for you, it's gone by ep 2. I think they are really trying to get the ladies to watch. There are 5 scenes in the first 2 eps of Song Seung Heon without a shirt on. He's exercising twice, in a hot tub, in the shower and getting dressed too. The initial description for When A Man Loves mentioned Tae Sang being married but falling in love with Mi Do. He's not married. In fact, after meeting Mi Do, she is the only woman for him. This is actually a bit of a throwback in that regard. Most older dramas have the leads fall in love at first sight and there's marriage talk by ep 3. Tae Sang falls for Mi Do right away. He's already proposing by the end of ep 2. Granted, it's 7 years later. I really thought this was going to be a trainwreck (could still be). The first 2 eps weren't all that bad.

The Gangster theme could make this worth watching .

It'll be interesting to see what happens between Tae Sang and Mi Do. The official site suggests that she might fall for someone else. That doesn't stop him from going out of his way for her. I expect a heavy theme of "must protect the girl". We've already had some of that in the first 2 eps.
We don't know the exact age of the characters but the age difference is key. Tae Sang is in his 40's and Mi Do is in her 20's. They first meet when Mi Do is trying to get into college. That would make her about 18-19. The story then forwards 7 years. That makes her about 25-26. Tae Sang is likely in his early 40's.
I find Shin Se Kyung underwhelming. I would have preferred someone like Kim So Eun, Park Ha Sun or Moon Chae Won in the role of Mi Do.

This storyline sounds good, but then I read about Song Seung Heon's 5 scenes without a shirt and my interest was even more peaked-- then I realized I have seen him in other dramas (like Summer Scent- one of my first dramas) and now I just have to watch!!! ;D

bird11: You were the first person that came to mind after all the SSH shirtless scenes. I figured you'd be intrigued. LOL.

I'm trying to catch up after 2 weeks without a comp. Not sure where Tae Sang and Mi Do's relationship is headed. He loves her. She clearly doesn't. I'm thinking it'll be a Gone with the Wind like situation. By the time Mi Do realizes she loves Tae Sang too, it'll be too late. I find Jae Hee and Sung Joo annoying but I understand him a bit more. At least, he has more to go on. Sung Joo is clinging on to something that was never there. Liked the ending of ep 6. I figured Mi Do would put on the ring. She's chosen Tae Sang each time she's had to make a choice but not sure if it's for more than security reasons. Jung Dong Ha - The First ButtonBaek Ah Yeon - Introduction To Love

Caught your post yesterday, Knov-- forgot all about trying to catch this drama-- thanks for the reminder ;D !!!! Watched ep 1 & 2 yesterday and so far, so good (even without the shirtless scenes! ) I liked Song Seung Heon ever since I saw him in Winter Sonata, so it is great to see him again. In this case-- love his eyes -- don't like the facial hair. Not crazy about the hair style.......... Glad to have something to watch in between episodes on "That WInter, the wind blows"

If Tae Sang were to say "there's nothing between Sung Joo and I" in front of everyone that would solve that problem. He's told Mi Do that but no one else knows about him and Mi Do. Granted, Mi Do hasn't told Jae Hee about her and Tae Sang either. He just knows she has someone. Sung Joo is really desperate. She bought the same ring as Tae Sang and Mi Do's couple ring. Hey Knov-- what episode are you on in this drama? I just finished ep 5. I really like most of the characters, but agree that actress playing Mi Do is not the best I have seen-- her face is lacking so much expression that it is hard to tell what she is really feeling. I don't get Sung Joo or the "crazy-hair" bad guy--both need to get over their obsessions with people who don't love them! The scene when Jae Hee comes home and finds his brother there was great--when Jae Hee cries and tells his brother he thought he was dead and that noone was telling him the truth was so sad, and when they "wrestled" and Jae Hee put his face down and just started crying so much because he was happy his brother was back was so real it almost made me cry... The all -out brawl at the office was crazy! Seeing grown men pummel each other while dressed in suits was just crazy!!! So far this drama is holding my interest. I can't quite get past the age differnce between Tae Sang and Mi Do but on the other hand Mi Do seems to be older than Jae Hee, so I cant see that really working out either.....

Hey Knov-- what episode are you on in this drama? I just finished ep 5. Episode 8. The age difference doesn't bother me. Mi Do is in her mid 20's. If she were 21 (or younger), I'd have an issue with it then. I mean, that's Nicolas Cage territory. I like Tae Sang & Mi Do together. Several nice moments between them in eps 7 & 8. I'm just not sure she's with him for more than security. She seems to be slowly warming up to him. I guess she likes him but doesn't love him. The idea that being with Tae Sang somehow gets in the way of Mi Do's dreams is silly. In most cases, I'd expect a happy ending for the leads despite the obstacles. I'm not sure with this series. I think that's part of what keeps me watching. I don't really care for most of the other characters. Sung Joo is annoying. She clings to Tae Sang despite him not being interested. Jae Hee can't take a hint. Mi Do told him she has a boyfriend. I'm not sure why he was so shocked when he found out who it was. Mr Bad Hair is just bad all around. He wants to blame everything on Tae Sang. K-Drama characters don't take rejection well.

I finished Episode 8 and I hate to admit it but I am leaning towards Jae Hee and Mi Do becoming a couple. They seem to have so much more in common and I guess I felt so sorry for Jae Hee when he finds out who Mi Do's boyfriend is, and about his brother's past! Also, when Tae Sang goes to visit "crazy hair" bad guy and threatens him with him stealing the money I was angry-- in some ways he had no choice in order to even the playing field (you threaten me, I will threaten you) and help his business-- but I was thinking that all that "gangster" lifestyle was in Tae Sang's past but between this and the brawl at the office I guess I was wrong-- he still is a thug! Maybe Mi Do's father is right and they don't belong together......

Any progress Tae Sang & Mi Do had made prior to eps 9 & 10 is now gone. All K-Drama couples have their setbacks. I'm not sure these 2 should be together anymore though. Don't really like them with Jae Hee or Sung Joo either.
Tae Sang seemed unnecessarily angry with Mi Do during their conversation on the stairs. He's got some anger issues that seem to pop up at times. He's proposed twice to Mi Do in 8 eps. He should know Mi Do isn't ready for marriage. They're still in the getting to know each other phase. I think he's rushing things a bit. Maybe it's because he's older and wants to settle down.
Mi Do should be able to pursue her dream if that's what she wants. Tae Sang shouldn't expect Mi Do to be satisfied with being by his side. If they've never talked about it, he's not going to know what her dreams are though. What I don't get is why Mi Do would be moving to London. It sounded like most of her work would revolve around Asia. So, why London?
Shin Se Kyung wasn't kidding when she expected Mi Do to be hated on. I haven't come across many positive comments about Mi Do. Granted, a lot of that could be coming from fangirls who don't want Mi Do to hurt their Oppa.

I used to think that Tae Sang had no choice to be a thug, but when his anger comes out he acts just like a thug or a least a bully-- "it's my way or the highway" -- and it looks like Mi Do is taking the highway-- right to London! ;D Of course in many ways Tae Sang acts just like a toddler throwing little tantrums every time he doesn't get his way. He doesnt seem to know how to act in any kind of relantionship- w/ Mi Do,w/SungJo What do you think of "Crazy Hair" bad guy's head band? Wonder who thought that added to his character?

Knov-- have you been watching this? I was thinking it was getting a bit boring with Tae Sung and Mi Do, and then Jae Hee getting between the two. Then I watched Episode 14 and things are interesting again. Still not that crazy for Mi Do--her face/body just doesnt seem to show that much emotion no matter what happens to her, Tae Sung is not much better. The whole background story of Tae Sung's family doesnt seem to add much to the story so far either. Mi Do's mother is over the top..... Any comments? Hard to like, when you are watching something as good as "That Winter, the Wind Blows" at the same time.
