There's a link to a clip of the older Yi Soon Shin video that we watched years ago. It's an ambush of YSS's fleet, before he had the turtle ship(s) built. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHP90P2JVjIThe actor who plays YSS looks so young to me. You can click on "translate" if you want to read any of the comments about the video. There are no subtitles with the video clip, though. I haven't tried any of the other YSS videos, to see if they have subtitles. I wonder why the link is https. The 's' means secure, doesn't it?

ginny thanks so much for posting that link. What a fantastic series that was. Brought back great memories. (And I'll tell you what else, THAT is how you write a soundtrack! Incredibly good music.)
And if I remember correctly (maybe I don't), the blue-uniformed commander who died, the episode ended with this clip and then there was some commentary that Korea has a holiday to honor him. Can't remember his name...was it Ok Chung or something like that?
Anyway, that show was what brought me here in the first place. Will never forget it.

Well, I saw Roaring Currents last night, and it was AWESOME. Great filming/special effects, great music. Much more detail than we got to see on the TV screen. Watching it made me kind of nostalgic for the TV show, as far as how he built up the trust and loyalty with his men. Don't want to spoil anybody with more for now. However, I will say that I'm disappointed that . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Wakizaka did not throw the cat

Wakizaka did not throw the cat I have not seen it yet ,but it is the ALL TIME highest grossing film in the history of Korean Cinema . Anyway from what i have heard the few complaints about it are , way too patriotic almost to the point of cramming it down your throat . To much CGI Japanese Armour is wrong again (from the trailer it looks like 13th century Samurai from Mongol Invasions ) No Japanese actors playing Japanese . However i do want to see it regardless . By the way Samuel Hawley's book The Imjin War is finally out in paperback ,i loved this book ,so well written(ie not dry ) and covers everything you can think of .

Re Wakizaka and the cat - In the TV version, Wakizaka had a cat with him on the ship and he was watching the cat's pupils kind of like a clock to keep track of the changing tides (at least I think that's what he was doing). When YSS attacked, Wakizaka stood up and tossed the cat aside, causing the cat to screech in indignation. It was funnier to watch than it is to explain (and no, no animals were injured during filming of the scene, and no, I am not a cat hater).
CGI? - I thought it was pretty life-like. Too patriotic? - I guess I missed that. Though I will say that the Japanese were portrayed as pretty savage when preparing for battle.

The most important question. How does Choi Minsik, the admiral, compare with Kim Myungmin?

The most important question. How does Choi Minsik, the admiral, compare with Kim Myungmin? He was very good, but I have to give the edge to Kim Myungmin. We had 100 episodes to get to know him and see all his sides, and we only get 2 hours to get to know movie YSS, so maybe not a fair comparison. I thought both of them portrayed YSS in a similar manner.

KUNDO THE AGE OF THE RAMPANT opens Friday in theaters around the country ,i missed Currents but intend to see this .It looks like All Men Are Brothers crossed with Sergio Leone's Westerns (Good The Bad and The Ugly and Fistful Of Dynamite ) (Even uses the old Spaghetti Western theme Day Of Anger which Tarantino used in both Inglorious and Django ). This looks like it could be one of the years best films ,big budget action plus brains ,Hollywood is probably scratching their heads as to why they cannot make films like this . From what i have read in reviews the film is gushing with clever homages ,it got a great review in the Village Voice . Well Go are distributing it in the US . Great review on the IMDB www.imdb.com/title/tt2972482/?ref_=nv_sr_1Trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1AllhSvrgYThe other big Korean film which is getting rave reviews is NO TEARS FOR THE DEAD ,Its the new film from the director of THE MAN FROM NOWHERE ,this is playing at the Toronto Film Festival ,i imagine it will get picked up soon . filmschoolrejects.com/reviews/tears-dead-review.phpTrailer looks great www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSEETdINiGYHere is the bomb of the year ,to bad cause i like Son Yejin . THE PIRATES www.youtube.com/watch?v=elh95eZg_cY
