Hey, I remember reading a memoir about a family who went to North Korea believing it was a socialist paradise. The difference is that the writer is a half Korean half Japanese man whose father was Korean and mother was Japanese. Yes, about 93000 Koreans from Japan moved to North Korea believing it was a socialist paradise between 1959 and 1984. *Correction : Not 93000 Koreans. 93000 is the total number of people who moved to North Korea from Japan. Not all of them were Koreans. About 7000 from the 93000 that moved were Japanese wives, Japanese husbands, and half-Japanese children born from Japanese mother or father. This means there are a lot half-Japanese and quarter-Japanese living in North Korea today worshiping the Kim regime. Some of the Japanese who went to North Korea with their Zainichi Korean spouse are still alive today, wishing that they could go back to their homeland before dying. His daughters, who were born in South Korea and grew up in free world watching American films and eating Burger King, are now living in North Korean concentration camp, singing praises about Kim Ilsung and Kim Jong-il all because of their father's foolish decision. *Correction : His daughters were actually born in West Germany, not South Korea. Oh Gilnam was living in West Germany for about 15 years until he got tricked by North Korean agents and moved to North Korea.

Slightly off-topic. I just came upon some episodes of KBS Yi Soon Shin on Youtube. How I miss YSS and his men. *sigh*. They do not make historical dramas like they used to.

My favorite scene of this film. I recommend this film if you are a traditional historical fan.

Yoo Ah-in really sells the mental instability...he's legitimately terrifying....especially in the scene where he's celebrating his mother's birthday.

Sunny is a good film though. its on Netflix. However tap dancing POW's is a bit of a stretch . It might not be a stretch at all. The movie got its idea from this picture taken in Geoje prison camp during Korean War. The picture shows North Korean prisoners doing an American square dance. The prisoners in the picture were apparently trying to prove that they were no longer communists by square dancing. The dance in the picture isn't tap dance, but the picture shows that dancing POWs didn't just come out of nowhere.

Yoo Ah-in really sells the mental instability...he's legitimately terrifying....especially in the scene where he's celebrating his mother's birthday. I actually seen all three. My thoughts:
Assassination I thought this one sucked.
Age of Shadows I may have to rewatch this one again in an attempt to get a better appreciation for it, but I was surprised at how average it felt? Its premise was what got me to watch it but I didn't find it compelling for some reason.
Ode to My Father Yeah this one's real good. The entire family loves it.
