I was going to exclude Mishil, because she's obvious, but who am I to stand in the way of fandom. My two absolute favorites at this point (Ep.36) are Alchun (Lee Seung-hyo) and Jilsuk (Ahn Kil-kang). I loved Jilsuk the moment he walked on screen, the actor brings such intensity to the role. He's completely over the top and might seem evil, but the actor manages to hold it together so you don't quite know what he's going to do, but whatever he does do, it works. Jilsuk remains consistent and sympathetic, no matter how extreme his actions. As for Alchun, who was not only a real person but apparently quite a person, this actor's sense of humor is always peeking out from behind his serious-face. For instance, in Ep.34, when Bidam announced he would be competing with the Hwarangs, everyone looked shocked except for this guy. The look on his face was completely, "I knew this crazy bastard would do something crazy. Bastard." Always entertaining. I hope others will add to this thread.

My favorite character is Bidam because he is hot--I'm that shallow. I also like Kim Chunchu because he is funny and unpredictable.

Beyond Mishil, it'd hard to pick #2. I really like a lot of the characters, which is a major reason I like this show so well. I suppose Bidam has to come next, and not because he's hot (although he does have a megawatt smile), but because of his complex nature (won't say more). Deokman sure, Yushin oh yeah, Alchun sure, Munno you bet, and let's not forget poor Chungmyung.

Can I vote for the 14-sided dice? Seriously, I can't get enough of those things.
The way the story has played out, the one character who could potentially turn into someone real interesting for me is Bojong. With his family position, and what we've seen of his motivations, there are all kinds of great directions they could go with him. But the clock is ticking and the available episode space is shrinking, so who knows.
Also liked having a random weird guy show up all of a sudden. That put a spark into things for a while--here's a guy who lets people get mad at him and shove him around, but then his chicken dinner gets messed up and he goes totally bonkers. Too bad they've drifted away from that (although I will say, Bidam is the one character who's been reasonably well-developed, as far as us understanding why he's the way he is).
Other than that, character development has not been a strong point of this series and it's really bugged me...but I'll reserve judgment until we've seen the whole thing.

ajk, but I was going on how well they are being played as written. Actor's gotta put in the work (especially here). For me, Jilsuk and Alchun (so far) are doing the best with that.
Mishil's got plenty of background to chew on, but we don't always get it up front. I'm hoping other characters will have the benefit of later explication.
Aside from that, I agree with you. Also you are right, Bojong has some potentional. He's rather a mini Seolwon. Glad to see so many opinions here. Relatively. LOL...
Poor Chungmyeong...Princess of the Past...
