Regarding ChunChu's age - I would have put him at 5-6, 7-8 at most. I don't know how much time supposedly passed since Princess Chungmyeong was killed but I think 8 years old is probably pushing it. Otherwise he's extremely mature for his age ;D. Episode 35Wow! The rest of the Bijae was heart pounding and so unfair. Poor Yushin. On the other hand, what determination. I loved the way the other Hwarang cheered him on. Double shock regarding Chilsuk and Bojong. What got into them? I was floored. Mishil, her lover Cheol Wonrang (Bojong's father) and some of Mishil's other cohorts are evil too. How can they smile and grin as Yushin is being beaten to a pulp? What's up with Prince Chunchu? He forgives Daenambo (killed his mother) yet is hostile towards Princess Deokman. Does he blame her because it was supposed to be her that was killed instead of his mother? Does he want her out of the way because he's after the throne? He's up to something. They gave a partial explanation of why Chunchu was in Su (China). He's playing the idiot for some reason that's yet to be seen. I wish Munno would show some love towards Bidam. It could make a difference in him.

I have't seen Epi 36 yet but I do think Chunchu blames Deokman for his mother's death. He's upset anyway because his mom kept breaking her promise in each birthday letter to him ..."to see him NEXT year".So he must be a bit irrational in his thinking! At the food-inn,he was repeatedly told how hard Deokman prayed for his mom but he still feels hatred towards his aunt.Anyway,it'll all settle down soon. He'll soon be on Deokman's side and help defeat Mishil. That's a Kdrama certainty.
I think Prince Chunchu must have been sent away to protect him from Mishil's charm and/or harm. Many men including kings, have fallen for her and/or her tricks in the past and,I guess,he would not be an exception.By the way,age doesn't seem to be a barrier when it comes to this Mishil!!!
I think Chilsuk is in the land of in-between.That is,in-between good and bad.He seems to be leaning a bit towards good at the moment because the woman he loves,Sohwa,is good.Unsurprisingly, she seems to know that Bidam will ultimately be bad in the end because he is Mishil's son.
Somehow,Yushin's never-give-up attitude has earned his respect from Bojong.Wow!

That was my first inclination too pilseung. He blames her. The box full of letters was sad. No wonder he's resentful. He did ask Deokman why she came back.
Chilsuk seems to be similar to Munno. They both make decisions fairly it seems. I was shocked at what he said at the Bijae. I did notice that Yushin got him in the side. Also Bojong must have a bit of good character in him. He cheered because he's a Hwarang. I bet his daddy didn't like that at all. ;D

I was also surprised at the reactions of Mishil and her minions. They are 3-dimensional enough so they are capable of doing immoral things, but they still can applaud a great effort, even if it's by someone on the other team. Mishil, Seolwan, Bojong, and Chilsuk are all Hwarangs, so they still subscribe to the Hwarang code of honor. Poor Bojong would probably turn out OK if he was separated from his Mom; he still has some decency. Chilsuk showed he was a mensch by admitting that Yushin got him. Chunchu is the new mystery man. Obviously he's playing a game, but what's he up to? And what was the explanation of why he was sent to Sui? In the flashback I believe Cheongmyung just told him they had to be parted for a while. What did I miss? Episode 36: Mishil makes a back-room deal to acquire the number one draft pick for her team. Chunchu goes out on the town. Munno rethinks the grand plan, and Bidam rethinks everything. I hope Hajong has enough daughters to go around...

I've never even seen this Chinchilla character everyone is talking about. Haha. It's not Chinchilla, chuck. ;D ;D It's Chunchu. He's the son of Princess Chungmyeong, Deokman's twin sister.

I like Chinchilla. I think you should call him that. We haven't had many cute character-takeoff names lately. Bo

Chinchilla it is. ;D I'm still marveling at the amount of time that seems to have gone by/how big he's gotten, let alone his eyebrows. Chuck, hurry up and join the fun. You've got the most exciting episodes ahead of you. Hope we haven't spoiled you too badly.

I watched episodes 23 and 24 tonight. Princess Chungmyeong's death was definitely tough to watch. Even Bidam acted like a normal human being through that whole episode.
The attempt by Deokman and Bidam to retrieve the antidote in time to save the Princess, and her scene with Yushin Rang at her deathbed, were very much like the scene in Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, in which Chow Yun Fat's character dies. Just mechanically, I mean. The characters all have very different motivations, though.
It's just very sad when bad things happen to good people like Princess Chungmyeong.

Sad? Oh yes. And there is more to come. Episode 37 is one to rip your heart out (at least it really affected me).

People should know there was another queen after Queen Seondeok, she was called Jindeok. Kim Chunchu was son of 25th King of Silla (King Jinji), Jinji married Princess Cheonmyung (sister of Queen Seondeok). Jinji was uncle to Princess Cheonmyung.
I understand King Jinpyeong was younger brother of Jinji, so does this makes Kim Chunchu half brother to Bidam??? This drama portrays Bidam being son of King Jinji and Princess Misil.
Anyway, King Jinpyeong had three daughters not just two.
1. Princess Cheonmyung (married her father's older brother King Jinji and had son Kim Chunchu) 2. Princess Deokman (later become Queen Seondeok) 3. Princess Seonhwa (from TV drama called Seodong yeo, who married Beakje King Mu)
So during Queen Seondeok, both Silla and Baekje maintained peace until Queen Jindeok, who send Kim Yusin to fight Baekje and Kim Chunchu to Tang China for military alliance.
More interestingly, Queen Jindeok is cousin of Queen Seondeok who favored Kim Chunchu and Kim Yusin, some scholars believes Kim Chunchu and Kim Yusin controlled Queen Jindeok's administration and court. They became the most powerful ruling class in Silla. They even eliminated political enemies and this was how Silla became powerful enough to defeat Baekje/Koguryo and later fought off Tang.

Chuck, hurry up and join the fun. You've got the most exciting episodes ahead of you. Hope we haven't spoiled you too badly. Yes Chuck, hurry up. I personally wouldn't read ahead because the twists won't have the impact they should. Episode 36Oh no, Yushin! I thought he countered Mishil but then she won out in the end. Doesn't she get a headache from the constant scheming? Just when you think things are going well, WHAM. Episode 37Oh no, Munno! I couldn't believe it, totally unexpected and heartbreaking. I wonder which one would have won if that didn't happen. Apparently Munno made some moves that Bidam never learned. I'm glad they reconciled but not at that price. Chunchu is a bigger mystery than ever. Was it his idea to get the books by any means possible or was it the man that did the deed? Two stunning episodes. My first thought was how much Chunchu looks like Eddie Munster, widow's peak and eyebrows. ;D Actually there are a few others that have the same wig with the peak.

I personally wouldn't read ahead because the twists won't have the impact they should. I'm just skimming the messages and stop reading when it looks like a spoiler is coming. I should be able to watch episodes 25 and 26 tomorrow. I have to wait a week between getting to watch the two new episodes they download each week. But, I fill in the days between watching Kim Sun Ah in When It's at Night, her follow up to Kim Sam Soon. That way I'm not totally starved for K-Drama entertainment.
