I think the highlight of the these earlier episodes was the Yonghwa group's battle in war. Then again I am an action fan
same here. thanks Bo...i think they are somewhat synonymous, but the meaning of "antsy" is lighter than "angst."

...,thanks Bo...i think they are somewhat synonymous, but the meaning of "antsy" is lighter than "angst." My pleasure. But I have to add that if you are right, then you "could say" that "body ache" is synonymous with "cancer"--just lighter. (I just don't think they're synonymous. LOL.) Disagreement is the spice of conversation.

Speaking of antsy i was watching these ep's on DVD (rom) and some where in the teens i mumbled profanities along the lines of "no more " so i skipped to the original thread on here and read through and moved on to the episode where things began to change .
As much as it was driving me nuts there were enough things to keep me on board per example . Several actors , The musical score and lastly the many many many people raving about it ,I could not figure why they liked it and i did not of course they were several episodes ahead of me ..

I guess one of the things that is keeping me interested is, strangely enough, the character of Mishil. Our gal Ko Hyun-jung is just incredible. The way Mishil wavers in and out of every conversation, as though she's actually in a parallel universe with only a tenuous hold on our form of reality, and then BAM she's there, fully, in charge and batchin'...I can't get enough of her. I'll hold on until everyone else (in the cast and crew) catches up with her.

Yeah, I don't think the drama would have been as compelling if it weren't for Mishil

Agreed! i read that since Mishil did a real person in history she was already died in 600. so a Mishil here was just fictional , but the actress was outstanding she made this drama more convincing . @ BO : thanks for correcting my big mistake about the semantics point of view between "antsy" and "angst" . And what you mean by "Word" in the previuos post ?

Actually it is believed she may not have been real. History of the Three Kingdoms (Samguksagi), which is the most relied on source for that time period, makes no mention of such a person. Mishil was mentioned in Hwarang Segi (Annals of Hwarang), a historical record of the Hwarang, said to have been written by Silla historian Kim Daemun 金大問 (fl. 704) in the reign of Seongdeok the Great (r. 702~737), but many Korean scholars believe it to be a forgery. Two manuscripts were found in 1989, both in the handwriting of Bak Changhwa 朴昌和(1889–1962), who was skilled in literary Chinese and also worked for the Imperial Library in Tokyo during the Colonial period. There are some historians who still argue for its authenticity, saying that the importance of Hwarang segi is that is one of the scarce historical works about Silla by a person of Silla himself, and it is free from Confucian dogma and morality (Samguk sagi was written in the Koryo period). Which side is right? I dunno, but I would find it uncanny that the handwriting of two men who lived centuries apart just happened to have the same identical handwriting.
Fun fact. According to Hwarang segi, Misaeng and Sejong were leaders of the hwarang at some point. Munno is mentioned too.

And what you mean by "Word" in the previuos post ? It's a slang way of saying you agree with someone or approve of something. It can also be used as a question. For example: A: Lizzy looked hot in that new After School music video. B. Word? (meaning really?) A. Yeah, but Nana is still my bias. B. Word. (meaning you agree)

HungV. I am rather a schoolmarm, ain't I. LOL. Actually, if you're looking for an expert on American and Internet slang, you can't do better than our knov1 (as you see). He's the best. I was under the impression that Mishil is almost surely not a historical person, but only appears in one history chronicle. You know, like Dr. Jang-geum. Are you saying, Mannshaft, that she's just from a different historical period than this one? Don't know why I'm leaving that there except to show how careless I am and completely forgot to read Sageuk's post before writing it. My bad.PS = Here is an excellent book/history about the different styles of handwriting used by the Chinese and certainly at the time, by extension, in hanja: Chinese Brushwork in Calligraphy and Painting by Kwo Da-wei (whose name for some reason seems Korean to me). I love this book, I've read it several times and each time, just a little bit of the information sticks in my brain.

First off, AJK gets a score of 9.95 for his prediction that Jukbang would finally put 2 and 2 together and realize that Deokman is a woman. He gets a .05 point deduction for thinking he'd bring up the peeing, when it was really the bathing that he mentioned (he did remember, though that Deoman did not pee with the other men).
Oh my, oh my, that poor little dagger has caused so much churn. Maybe I'm too gullible, but when I watched this the first time, I assumed it was a one-of-a-kind royal heirloom, especially since I've never seen anyone use one in any other historical drama. But maybe these were the Swiss army knives of their day, and everybody had one.
The ninja outfits - I too have wondered how these guys acquire such attire when they go out into the night to do secret deeds. Maybe there's a ninja shop. In this case, all the Hwarangs probably did have a black uniform, for times when stealth and secrecy were needed.
Mishil - yes, she is the number one reason to watch this show (although there are others), and your admiration for her will only increase.
