So I think people are familiar...or at the very least heard of the Ring horror franchise.
I just discovered that there was a JDrama version of the story to capitalize on the success of the original Ringu film.

Saguek originally Ringu was a 1995 TV Movie, in the television version Sadako was a hermaphrodite that turned tricks on the side and was murdered by a client/gangster .The reporter was also a guy.and there was no videotape, its impossible to find now and its 1997 TV Remake which is closer to the book.
In 1998 the first TV series emerged followed by the film, there would be 3 more films, also a Korean remake that was great , and one more TV Series adaption of Ringu Spiral
Now i have lost track of how many more films?, since Sadako vs Ju-On, there has been Sadako and there is still another .
The TV Movies were great, the series was disappointing and the Sprial series even worse.

I actually managed to find a youtube upload of the TV movie and separate subtitle files. Its Ring Kanzenban, right? Also, I'm confused by what you're saying. When I saw this movie, it clearly had a videotape and Sadako's murderer was a doctor. Ring Kanzenban is said to have released on 1995 and then came out on VHS/Laserdisc on 1997. Are you trying to tell me there's another version nobody knows about? Here's the link to the film I managed to find: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv9rw2BXg0Q&t=5240sThis here is my take. I actually think the Korean version of the Ring is boring. The JDrama TV series is terrible. There is so much wrong with it. The TV movie version, the one they call Ring Kanzenban is pretty good. As for how many films, I heard a new film simply titled Sadako came out last spring, directed by Hideo Nakata who did the first theatrical version. Haven't seen it but apparently word is that its unremarkable. Funnily enough I hear there were other films called Sadako 3D that came out some time earlier. Hideo Nakata's first Ring film is my favorite.

You are correct Saguek, i actually have all these and still messed up all the plotlines i have not watched any of them since the late 90's and early 2000's
Ring Kanzeban is the best of all the TV adaptions, it has a striking amount of nudity and bloodshed in the uncut version,
Ring Final TV Series (1998 ) is pretty bad
Ring Spiral TV , unrelated to the films or TV is even worse, Sadako is in this despite being unrelated
There is no other TV movie, almost, but it was never made
Another Heaven both film and TV series (2000) was much better than all the Ringu films and TV . (unrelated, but great J Horror drama )
Hypnosis film and TV series (2001 ), actually the best of the lot, Another Heaven and Hypnosis are two films and related sequel TV Dramas, that were heavily influenced by the Ring, but actually were much better .
Sorry Saguek, forgive my fading memory, but all the above is acurate now .

Was that Kim Yeongcheol I spotted in there for a second? The guy who played King Taejo twice and Goongyae? It sure looked and sounded like him.
p.s. I meant Taejong, not Taejo.

Oh yeah lol, I overlooked that, my bad. Didn't recognize the name right away and the previous post about the cross-dressing had fried my brain temporarily.
Kind of surprised to see him in a series like that. But I guess the pickings are slim these days so you take what you can get.

I guess he wanted to follow Yu Donggeun's footsteps of playing both the father(Lee Seonggye in KBS Jeong Dojeon) and son(Lee Bangwon in KBS Tears of Dragon). By playing Lee Seonggye in this drama, he would become the 2nd actor to play both Lee Seonggye and the son lol Maybe Ahn Jaemo can play Lee Seonggye 20 years later and become the 1st actor to play Lee Seonggye, Lee Bangwon(KBS Jeong Dojeon), and Sejong(KBS Tears of Dragon).

Better late than never Signal and The Tunnel arrive on Netflix next week.
There is a streaming service called Tubi, it has a few Korean dramas and films
The Man Who Sold The River was very good.
Shine or go Crazy ..... I lasted 10 minutes, horrible
Splendid Politics .......4 episodes and I had enough , no more
Gyebaek i was watching again, mainly the second half, i saw someone post on an old Yahoo message board, that Queen Eungo of Baekje was one of the evilest women in Korean history, Truth do you have any info on her ?
The first half of Gyebaek is a Queen Seondeok remake, the second half was pretty good .
Empress Ki , Haji Won doing her butch Tom Boy act again, pass .
The Scholar Who Walks At Night ....junk
The Night Watchman ....same
These are all old, but Tubi is a free service, with commercials .

Better late than never Signal and The Tunnel arrive on Netflix next week. Both are really good. I recommend both. I also recommend Life on Mars, a Korean remake of British series with same name.
